Cloth diapering at WDW?

If you Cd, what do you do in the parks? Do you use disposables or do you use cloth? We are going in 3 weeks and we are not sure. We are thinking of using disposables but I hate them. I cringe putting them on the girls now.
We are staying at AKV. I know we can do laundry but we are in a studio. Anyone know where the laundry is? How annoying is it to do there?

Thanks to everyone.

I did disposables and cloth off and on. For vacation, I always did disposables. There was no way I was doing the diaper laundry on vacation. I also had major issues finding the right system (detergent, # of rinses, etc.) even at home. That is what led me to disposables off and on. I didn't want to risk any damage to my diapers in the public washers. I never tried them, but I think Seventh Generation diapers are chlorine free, so not as bad chemical wise.

Edited to add: If you search on here for cloth diapers, you can read what others have done. I know for a fact that other people have used cloth.

When traveling I use gel-free disposables. My personal choice is Tushies brand, but there are other gel-free brands available as well.

I never used cloth at Disney. I just don't want to deal with the laundry. I also don't want to have to cart dirty dipes around the parks. I have too much stuff to carry around already!

I'll first state that I haven't done Disney for a long trip with CDs. DS figured out the potty by the time he was 2ish, so our first big trip was entirely diaper-free.

But we have traveled with them!

I will also state that I am vehemently opposed to using disposables. It is a deep philosophical issue with me, and one of the many problems I had with the hospital transfer was that no one thought to bring the dipes, so for 43 hours my boy was in disposables and I hated that.

So I CD even when vacationing.

Although I had all sorts of attempts at complicated washing systems, ultimately I did best with simplicity. One wash on hot. Every so often I would do an extra rinse/spin but it wasn't vital for me. I used a small bit of washing soda and about 10 squirts of Simple Green. That's it. So washing for me was very very easy.

But I didn't feel like buying those things for our first long trip where I would have to wash, so I just used the detergent at my brother's. When we got back I had to do a few extra washes b/c he uses Tide and I'm dreadfully allergic to it, the smell is just awful (I can't hug my MIL and breathe at the same time b/c she stinks of Tide) and I had to get it out, but a wash or two in a different detergent didn't ruin anything.

I had two wet bags (big ones) and when traveling I brought both. One had the clean ones all folded and stacked, and put into a suitcase. The other would get the dirties. Don't put that straight on the carpet, by the way, b/c the bags breathe a bit and can do yucko things to a carpet. :rolleyes1 Put something under it, or put it in the bathroom (probably best anyway).

Wash when you have time; when kids are napping one parent can go wash and read a book. :)

Have fun! You are not alone in not wanting to use disposables.

One thing to think of though, is that at alot of laundromats washing cloth diapers is not allowed. I don't know how the laundry areas are in WDW resorts, and I don't know if it would be an issue..but my worry wort self would think...what if it was an issue and they told me I couldn't do the laundry there?

My dd was PT'd last time we went to WDW, but we took many other vacations and I always used cloth. Last year at the BW Villas we had a w/d in our room and I wouldn't have hesitated to do diaper laundry there. If we didn't have a laundry facility in our room or right next to our room I would probably do disposables just for that trip. I guess you just have to weigh how difficult (how much of your time) will be taken from your vacation having to deal with diaper laundry. If the laundry facility is not in your room I would think you have to sit around and wait for it to be done before leaving.

I have always just brought sposies. That way I didn't have to worry about washing them.

I'm *hoping* DD will be PT by our trip in Dec, but if not, I'll just use 'sposies. I'll look into the Tushies or 7th Generation.

It's very unsanitary!!! Who'd want to do their laundry after someone else has done dirty diapers in it??

Commercial laundries launder their diapers what...three, four times? So unless you want to launder them three times, I'd used disposables.

I have come to abhor disposable diapers. BUT.... I wouldn't risk ruining my cloth diapers in a public machine.....They're just too expensive to risk it! When we visit family, we cloth diaper... when we go on vacations elsewhere, we just tough it out with sposies (but we use Tushies or 7th Gen.).

I love cloth diapers.... almost the point of obsession! LOL (Kinda like WDW!)

That's kind of an unnessicary and blanket statement. Commercial launders only wash once on a sanitary cycle, which essentially heats up the water to a temprature that kills any potential bacteria.

I didn't CD my DD during vacations so i'm absolutely no help at all. But I think that's awesome that you're considering CDing on a vacation! That's true CD dedication!

I gotta giggle.

Do you not trust washing machines?

If someone in your family gets tummy sick and has a #2 accident, you put it in the washer and you're done with it, yes? So if you're on vacation and if that were to happen...would you throw away the clothes instead of washing them?

I'm so glad that my childfree (and therefore possibly more easily grossed-out than the average parent) brother (that we stay with when on vacay to San Diego) understands that he has a good washer, he trusts his washer, and that if he got to a point where he did NOT trust his washer to clean the clothes, he'd get a new washer. The whole point of washing machines is that clothes are clean and therefore the washer is clean at the end of the cycle. :)

I just want to thank everyone for their responses. Bumpershoot you are my hero! We have decided to give CDing a shot when we go. We are staying at AKV and will have access to free laundry so there is no extra cost. Also we are planning on a lot of pool time so lots of time for one of us to be able to wash dipes. We are taking some disposables in case and we will have a car in case it isn't working. So far though we use them at home and out all the time and I can't think of why it would be a problem.

Actually, washing machines harbor a lot of germs. I never use public laundry facilities for that reason and I would have never dreamed that someone would be washing dirty diapers in a public washing machine. That is really gross and potentially dangerous for others.

If I wash clothes at home that I know have been thrown up on or had poop on, I make sure to dry them well afterwards and I will do a cycle of bleach water in the washer before doing another load.

I'm sorry, but washing a load of poopy diapers in a public machine that someone else is going to use is inconsiderate.

I agree.

I'm a Gdiaper mom and have to wash liners and dips. I agree with pp that I would never wash my dips in a washer that was used by other families. If I were you I would use 7th gen or something of the like.

Poopy diapers? Obviously you dont CD so wouldnt know that poop is dumped out into a toliet or other disposal method .Besides a kid peeing his bed then u washing it is no different.

when we went in 2006 we took our cd's with us (yes from the UK) as we rented a house and had laundry facilitlies, we had checked with the owner of the house if this would be ok and it was. we used flusable liners with them so there was minimal poo anyway as this was flushed away.

We just took with us what we would do for any normal family day out, a chnage bag with clean nappies in etc and a wet bag which we put the wet cd in wich was stowed in the basket under the stroller. No real hardship at all.

This yr we wont have the luxery of laundry facilities so we are planning on taking moltex disposable with us, which are 100% biodegraable, yes they are that bit more expensive but worth it. Not sure if these are available in the US though.
