Cloth diaper users--do you ditch them for WDW?

Was wondering if those of you who use cloth diapers switch and use DD when you go to Disney or other travel. If not, what do you do with them?

We use FBs mostly and in the past we have always just continued to cloth even on trips even WDW.

This trip however we have decided to use tushies (no gel no clor bleech) BECAUSE we will be at the world for 10 nights (possibly 12 depending on travel) thats alot of money washing every 3 days for WDW prices not to mention the few hours dedicated to watching the washer. Our last trip we went swimming while our diapers washed and someone kindly placed them in a dryer when the washer finished... I dont dry my FBs and the dryer was still warm and it made me grumpy and concerned for my PUL layer. OUr previous trip was in November and it was much cooler... washing midday in the wash room with no AC cloth diapers in september could seriously scare the other users away.

We thought about this long and hard and just decided a case of tushies would be less than the washing fees and we wouldnt have to spend the time away from our kids... if this was a 6 day trip it would be a different issue... but we are talking 4 washings at 2-3 hours a piece thats a whole day doing chores even if it is fluffy wash

We used cloth with our 12 month old last year, and will use cloth again in October with our almost 2 yr. old. :thumbsup2
I used a large wet bag to contain the dirties and washed them onsite every 2-3 days (along with our regular laundry). We also EC so that did cut down on the number of diapers I had to wash. I think it would have been nearly impossible for me to do CD laundry on the road when our son was, say, 6 mos. old...he peed CONSTANTLY back then and we would've had a pail full each day! One way to get around the cost issue if you really want to CD and have a little while before your trip is to start saving quarters in a special "CD Laundry Fund" jar. The money will add up quickly and you won't feel the sting of having to pay for it with "real cash" when you go. I'd also recommend taking your own detergent/soap in a trial-size box since you never know how a baby will react to a new one, and it would stink to have to find out on vacation that your child is allergic to what they have for purchase in the laundry centers! :guilty:

ETA: We even had a CM comment on my Tinkerbell wet bag! It was custom-made for me by a WAHM, lined with PUL, and has a zipper and loop handle to attach to a stroller or bag. She didn't know what kind of a bag it was, but she stopped and said how cute it was! I told her it was for cloth diapers and I am not even sure she understood what I said, 'cuz I got a bit of a blank stare! :rotfl:

Hi Julie,
We almost always run our PUL diapers (mostly HH) through the dryer. I've read up a lot on the to-dry-PUL-or-not-to-dry-PUL debate and I'm convinced that drying them on high heat actually KEEPS them waterproof! Works great for us...no leaks at all, ever. I have a link about this somewhere, if you are interested! :wizard:

yes I feel that the occational dry is good for them... but I have been using the same diapers non stop for 3 years. I plan on usingmy diapers for the next child as well so... I only dry occationally.

Oh its more about the elastic in the dryer than the PUL layer

as for what to do...

I make wetbags so for the parks I would pack 1 diaper for every 2 hours planed and take a wetbag, PUL lined cloth bag dirty diapers into the bag move on with life. also used cloth wipes kept in a plastic container

in the room I made a large wetbag about the size of a garbage bag (actually I made 2, 1 was for dirty clothes) and dumped the small wetbag into the large one when we would stop in our room for a piut stop. I used wipes solution cubes to make wipes solution on the road and a diaper buddy in my large wetbag to handle any possible oder

worked great

Since there are a total of 4 of us with luggage and car seats, we go to WalMart and get the disposables when we get there. I figure a week's worth of disposables won't hurt or break the budget. Especially since we use our timeshare and cook most meals.

we are driving our hybrid car (see why I cloth) so a case of tushies are just as easy to take as my cloth stash

Ok, if I were driving, I'd probably consider taking the cloth diapers since we always have a washer and dryer in the room. But if you don't plan to have a washer and dryer handy, than remember you'll be spending time in the wash room with lots of quarters.

oh and tushies are disposables... no bleech used and no gel not available at walmart or normal grocery shops

We use fuzzi bunz and haven't decided whether or not we will bring them to WDW. I normally bring them wherever we go, but we will be there for 10 days and I will have to do a lot of laundry as it is..
Plus, I would seriously cry if something happened to our pretty diapers on the way to Orlando :guilty:
Hopefully, dd will be potty learned by then :) then I won't have to worry about it!
hmmm...

Thank you all for your responses, I have to be honest as I asked this question in order to have a disney related topic to get the the topic of CD. I was really curious how you all handled this though. I am relatively new to the 'families' section of the board and am really enjoying it. I an a planner and am starting research for the next child. As we adopt this could be far away, or could happen quickly like our last one. We are technically not in process right this moment, but that can change at any moment. I am very interested in CD. I have some, but they require a cover and I was not sure what all is avail and what is the best. Is it better to use one of the all in ones. I know fold/prefold are not for me. I want velcro/ snap kind. I have a bunch of some fitted velcro kind, but no covers. I do not like "plastic pants" as my mom calls them and am looking for alternatives. Also now am currious about a tablet or something someone mentioned for the smell. Also laundry tips. I have an HE3t front load with sanitize cycle so I think this should work well. Thank you all. Sorry I am not immediately taking a WDW trip with CD, but I really was curious. Would love any info. Also if there are some other non Disney sites this would be better to discuss I am open to those suggestions. I am just so comfy here and everyone is so nice.

Everyone has their own favorite diapers. for a newborn nothing is better than kissaluvs with stacinator wool covers... once out of that newborn stage I am a serious fuzzibuns fan. I like snaps because i always get the same fit even with a wiggle worm of a baby. They are pockets and I stuff them with hemp so they have the appeal of an all in one with the washability of a diaper and cover combo

Diaper Buddies for pails are these that I have used are these. I typically dont use (or need) them at home just in small hotel rooms or when i was pregnant

the link isnt working right now, they are made by the soap deck

We didn't do cloth at Disney for a few reasons...I didn't want to risk them in the laundry room with an unfamiliar machine and I didn't want to take an extra suitcase for my fluff. I  my diapers and I didn't want to lose them. I was a bit overprotective of them! :rotfl: :lovestruc  We are coming from the west coast so we definitely couldn't drive.

PoohHappens, the best place to learn about cds is the diaper board at MDC. However, you will be sucked in and want to try every cute kind of diaper out there! Don't say you weren't warned! I literally could not go there because I was spending way too much money on fluffymail!

What I would suggest for you are either pocket diapers or all in ones. The pocket diapers (fuzzi bunz, happy heiny, and there are others now) have an insert (we used hemp) that goes between a fleece inner and PUL outer. They snap and are very trim. Fleece lining is great because it keeps stains to a minimum. Fuzzi bunz are a great investement. We used them for dd1 and sold them on ebay for nearly what we paid. The thing I hated about them was stuffing the pockets. It wasn't time consuming, but I have really dry skin and it would catch on the fleece. Ouch.

All in ones are the easiest kind of cds, IMO. They are cover and soaker with waterproof lining (hidden between the outside cover and inside layer) in one. Some have a sewn in soaker and some have a snap out soaker. The snap out ones dry quicker. You can buy all kinds of amazing prints. My cute diaper habit was a bad one. :rotfl2: My favorites were Angelwraps and Full Moon Baby Gear.(just add the .com to take a peek) I also love First Class Baby, but they are almost impossible to get. I sold two on ebay, both with small flaws, for more than I paid! AIOs are the most expensive kind of cd, but they do pretty well on ebay. I sold most of my stash for 50%+ of the original price.

I miss my fluff! I love talking diapers-so anytime you want to talk fluff, I would be more than happy!

By the way, I am grumpy about our choice to ditch the cloth for disney. I just found this dalmation print diaper on sale and felt all squishy inside. Made me day dream about putting it on my little one when we meet Crewella

Personally yes, I would ditch. I wouldn't want to worry about laundry on holiday, but that's just me!!

A few days of disposibles would make your life a lot easier and you don't have to use them forever...
