OK on vacation we will use tushies. We have tried them and purchased them and are very happy with how well they work for us. Finn typically urinates all at once and poops with announcment so I change him after he goes already.

I have enough diapers to go through 12+ a day (finn is 1 and doesnt go through that many but I budgeted on the safe side)

so I do not know disposable manners

I do not want to turn each diaper into a diaper football and then wrap it in a plastic grocery bag... as this will increase the time it takes to decompose.. but what do I do in public?

I will dump poop into the toilet but doesnt the diaper still smell?

Leaving it open is the best way to leave a smaller environmental footprint but will people hate me?

What about the poor sap who has to empty the garbage?

What about our hotel room? Just drop them in the garbage?

How do I keep our room from smelling?

Should I tip housekeeping more for dealing with diapers?

My wipes are flushable thankgoodness I dont have to figure those out!

Thanks
julie

I will respond as you were so kind to answer questions for me about cloth diapers, as you can see from my name I am very familiar with the doody. My son was not stool learned on our last trip, but I refused to put him in pull ups for the trip. I bought cheap undies and threw away a couple pair, I know very wasteful but it was vacation and just easier. Anyway on to your topic. My thought is this, I understand your concerns about biodegration, however in a public environment like this I would suggest doing the"football" thing. wrap the diaper and cross over the tabs etc...... the open diaper with stool in it is kind of a bateria hazard. I do not feel you need to do this with just we ones as they do not have the bacteria issue. So you would only have to do this with 5-8 diapers depending on how long you are there. With all the millions of diapers out there this will not have to great a land impact. I also wonder if someone like Disney with as much trash as they must have dont have an incinerator anyhow. Does anyone know the answer to that. Then your diaper will not join the land fill anyhow. Just a thought. I know you want to do your best to not contribute to the world of waste, but have a feeling that on a daily basis you do everything you can, and this is vacation. Aren't you driving your hybrid too :) if i remember correctly. :) Oh yeah for your hotel room if your stool diaper happens there, dump whatever stool comes out easy and flush, then football wrap the diaper and nest time you leave the room take it to another trash outside or in a restroom in the resort. I would not leave it all day in your room, that could really stink upon return to your room. Have a wonderful trip.

I have used cloth diapers at home but used disposables on outings away from home. I really wouldn't sweat it. Those parks are so crowded that the bathrooms in the park are disgusting anyway, no matter how many times they clean them during the day. I'm sure they see some appalling things in the garbage and diapers probably aren't even the worst. I believe that if you wrap the diaper and secure it as much as possible as the other poster described, that is probably more than sufficient. If you feel the need to wash out the poop in the toilet and all that jazz like you would with a cloth diaper, by all means, go ahead, but I say that there are ten people right behind you probably tossing a dirty diaper in the garbage open faced and full of poop. :guilty:

Now your room is another issue altogether since you will be staying in it and forced to endure whatever smells may exude from the garbage. Personally I would not only fold up the dirty diaper and secure it but I would also wrap it in a plastic grocery bag before tossing it in the can. That should be enough. If the garbage stinks too bad before housekeeping gets to it, maybe you can find a nearby dumpster at your resort to toss it into :confused3 As for tipping, do what feels appropriate for you. If you are being clean and considerate of the staff I don't think you should feel obligated to tip more just because your child is in diapers but that depends on your own comfort level.

Last but not least, have a blast! :thumbsup2

Thanks mommas

Pixiewytch we will be at POP at the same time!

I think the best bit of news someone told me was that Disney likly has their own incenerators so all my worry may be for nothing.

Cannot believe I have had my own kids for over 3 years and this is my first disposable!

and yep we will be driving our hybrid down

I am so excited

Yay! You must be as excited as I am then. :cool1:

Btw- It's great to see another eco conscious person on here. It is hard to believe you have been able to avoid a disposable for so long, lol. Then again I have family who watched the little one and weren't about to touch a dirty cloth diaper.
