So, please post here when you are denied entry to the MK today...

I doubt it will close. We left around 1 and while it was busy it was nowhere as insane as Easter week.

I went to Disney on Thanksgiving day in 1984 - my graduation gift. The park was empty! I guess that was an other era, huh?

Doubt it will close either. Came in about 1 without any wait and left around 4 - definitely more people leaving than arriving at that point. Realize there was probably another influx after other parks closed but it didn't seem ridiculously full.

Someone else posted that they were at WDW on Xmas around that time or maybe earlier and I think they said that the CM's outnumbered the guests. :)

I went to WDW in 1980 during the week between Christmas and NYE. It was packed. Not like the levels of today, but it was still crazy. Granted, I was a wee child at the time, but my mom remembers big crowds as well. Perhaps my packed is someone else's empty.

I think it was probably the mid 70's before most people even consider taking a vacation at Xmas. WDW was truly a game changer.

Conversely in one of the "Stupid comments overheard in WDW" threads during a July trip someone heard a guest say "We are coming back for Xmas, it should dead." :scared1:

I think it also has to do with women entering the workforce. Families have more money. Moms have less time and often less desire to spend their valuable off time hosting a huge family gathering. Additionally, divorce is more prevalent, which complicates the holidays for some, making a trip much more appealing.

How crazy does it get Thanksviging weekend? I remember this was one of the weeks to avoid when we were doing our planning.

I agree Chartle. People used to want to stay home around the holidays. You know, that whole "home for the holidays" thing? I think you're correct that the concept that the family could remain together but not sit around the living room staring at each other was cultivated by Disney. That's not a knock on anybody, I'd like to be at WDW at the holidays too if not for the crowds.

Not very. It's generally on par with a non-holiday week during the summer. Busy, but not super busy. Staged closures aren't an issue.
