This winter one of the AKL viewing areas is to be closed for acclimating the animals to the kidani village. I think it is called the "Sunset Savannah."

How will that affect our "savannah view" in April?

Per DVCmember.com If your stay is after April 15, then no worry. Some have suggested that they should not take that long. But, if there will be a change you will not know until 30 days before checkin:

To accommodate this important process, animals are not scheduled to be on Sunset Savanna from January 15, 2009, through April 15, 2009. As a reminder, Members and Guests who reserve a savanna-view room during this time will be advised of this process, and confirmations for those bookings include a notation to that affect.

Approximately 30 days prior to arrival, the resort will determine, based on occupancy and booking date order, which Members will be assigned to a Sunset Savanna view room. Affected Members will be notified, and after their stay, will receive a Vacation Point credit reflecting the difference between a savanna view and standard view (no additional compensation will be given).

If this process is not acceptable to you, please consider alternate stay dates or resorts. Also remember that animals on the other savannas can be viewed from multiple public locations at the resort.

to the 14th, no worries. Maybe they'll put the lions with the Giraffes and zebras, now that would be a real savannah view

Do you happen to know what percentage of savannah-view rooms overlook the sunset savannah?

We should be oK because we're scheduled on the 19th, but sometimes things don't go as planned.

Here is the breakdown of Savanna View rooms, counting each 2BR lockoff as one 1BR and one Studio:

Savanna View/Sunset: 62 rooms
Savanna View/Arusha: 67 rooms
Savanna View/Uzima: 26 rooms

Total Savanna View: 155

Just an FYI: The Uzima room count is lower than the others for two reasons. First, some of the rooms on that side of the resort are Standard View because they face the pool area. Second, the Arusha Savanna wraps around the top of the horseshoe on that side. The fence separating the two savannas connects to the end of the topmost spur. The rooms on the Uzima side of the end of the horseshoe and on the back side of the last spur can see into the Uzima savanna but only the animals from Arusha can access the landscaped area around those rooms, so I counted them as Arusha rooms.

The only predators they put on the savannas are a couple DVC guides looking for add-on prey :)
