"Closing" your heated inground pool?

When do you usually have your pool closed? We live in the midatlantic area (Maryland), but our pool will be heated. It isn't to be ready to swim until the end of September, so it isn't giving us much time in the pool this year. When do leaves start falling?

I live in CT and we don't have a heated pool, we close ours the end of September, when we inquired about a hearter they said we'd get another month out of it.

Generally in new england, you'll get may - october out of a heated pool, non-heated, generally june - september.

We close our pool in October, towards the end of the month. I don't go in it then, but, my dd and my dh do. They crank up the heat and go right in. We do get some nice days in October sometimes(very few for the pool, IMO) and they take advantage of every one.

We're in NY and we always close our heated pool the last week in September. After that we often have storms (residues from hurricanes, etc.) and all the leaves start falling into the pool. Being that you're in Maryland, you might get another week or two beyond that.

We're in NH and will close our heated pool end of September. Leaves start falling here by mid October, earlier if any bad storms come through. We opened the beginning of June, but didn't get the heater until the end of the month. May open mid May next year, but haven't decided that one yet. Before the heater we've always closed by Labor Day. Once we're all back in school we really don't use it.

Upstate New York, north of Albany and close our heated pool a couple weekends after Labor Day.

We're near Chicago, and we usually close ours mid to late October. DD's birthday is early Oct and we usually have a pool party. Some years the way the dates fall (no pun intended!) we can't have the party until the second weekend of Oct. So it's then or later.
I say crank up the heat and jump in!
