Are they really closing disney quest?? I am so upset - how am i going to shoot pirates now?? I cannot believe i missed this. I guess it is because we did not go this summer and i have been neglecting my disboards.

Anywho - i am really bummed. My family loves disney quest! And i never even got the chance to beat the comic book virtual reality thing either! <sigh>

What? This is the first time I've heard this. Does anyone know for sure that this is true? Why in the world would they close it?
Thanks.

It's been reported that they are closing DQ and redoing the ESPN club on the boardwalk.

Then they are turning DQ into a big ESPN ZONE with games and food like they have in other cities.

From what I understand that is so far only a rumor..I will ask someone when we go to DQ here later this month..

They bought all those games....

Just because they're changing the building into a 7 stroy tall Hooters (where men can drink beer, eat wings, and watch football  something you can't do at home on the couch)

.... doesn't mean they can't cram all those games into the arcades at the resorts.
Now that would be a nice up-grade for the resort game rooms.

I have mixed feelings about this. DS would like both ESPN (ANything with a sports theme) but he loves DQ and will be bummed if it is gone. Hopefully someone can enlighten us.....

It's not supposed to close until 2008, so you've got some time.

Hopefully they dont just throw everything out or sell them to someone. Would be nice to put them elsewhere then on the WDW property. Seperate them throughout the resorts would be cool.

I've been hearing this same rumor for the last 4 years. I'll believe it when I see it.

I don't know why Disney would include DQ in the "water parks fun and more" if they were closing it.

How did you know what I ask Santa Claus for each year?

I don't know, That would be a massive ESPEN Zone.

I've heard about this several times, but not recently, so I guess we'll see!

I'd be kind of sad to see it go, because it is always fun to pop in for a while on those nights in the winter when the parks close early and you don't have a lot to do between park closing and going to bed. However, once it is gone, it will actually save me some money, since I'll start buying the regular AP instead of the premium- I never go to the water parks, just DQ and PI, so it will be much cheaper to just buy the regular AP and a PI annual pass.

Gotta find the upside somewhere!

As far as I know, this is all still just a rumor. The first place I read this was at Jim Hill Media, and if you know that site-- well, it's entertaining, but you have to take a lot of rumors written there with salt-- not just a grain, a HEAVY dose. :)

Having said that, though, I wouldn't be surprised. the whole arcade and "amusement business" industry has been in a downward spiral since about 1995 or so. I remember the "good old days" of arcades, but people stopped spending money on arcades when home video game technology caught up. The DisneyQuest model was supposed to bring new life to the arcade industry, as was a similar venture by Dreamworks called Gameworks. Neither seemed to really help. Of all the arcades I used to frequent as a child and teenager, only one still remains, and it's full of old, broken down games.

Ahem. Anyway, I've never been to DisneyQuest. If this is true, sounds like I need to get there at some point before they close for good.

Ok - sorry if i caused a surge of panic. My mother is a teacher and she called me in the middle of the day yesterday asking why in the world I had not told her they were closing Disney Quest.

I was so dumbfounded and told her that I did not know - but I was posting on the disboards as we were speaking!

Anyway - her entire school knows that everyone in my entire family are huge disney freaks! (that is freaks in a good way of course). One of her students came to her and asked her if she was upset that DQ was closing. They they had just come back nas were told that is was closing in September. So I completely panicked! I was thinking - ok, i know i spend the majority of my time on the budget board but how could i have missed this! I had to post to see if someone could confirm.

Thanks for the information. It looks like we have at least until 2008 and maybe they will keep most of the games. My brother and I have ball when go - and my parents actually like it too!

DisneyQuest is the one truly disappointing attraction at DisneyWorld. The games are lame and it was a complete waste of time. And this coming from a twentysomting gamer. The admission price was included in our package along with water parks etc., but I couldn't see spending money exclusively on DisneyQuest

I disagree........i thought it was superb. We first went there on a day which looked like it was going to be a washout. I played games while my GF used the internet cafe.......it kept us both happy while the weather was bad.
