Can anyone tell me what the closest grocery store to saratoga springs is? We are driving in from Tampa to SS..
Thanks

I like the Winn Dixie at 11957 South Apopka Vineland Road, Orlando - (407) 465-8606. I believe it is about 2 miles. Prices are much better than if you go to the Goodings grocery.

As a local, we prefer Publix. There is a Publix at 8145 Vineland Ave (next to the Premium Outlets off South I Drive) (407) 238-9924.

We go to the Publix by outlet mall and there is a nice Longhorn steak house over there that just opened...go down hotel plaza blvd to 535 , turn right go under rt4 to major light turn left follow road past outlet mall and it is on left in small shopping center...clean and new and nice.:goodvibes

Since you are driving from Tampa you can stop at the Publix right off of I-4 at Champions Gate. The address is 8301 Champions Gate Blvd, Champions Gate, FL 33896.

Take Exit 58, turn left at the end of the exit ramp and go straight for two blocks. The Publix will be on the right.

The store is huge, almost brand new and the prices are a lot better than most of the stores near Saratoga Springs.

Just as a frame of reference, you will probably be taking Exit 65 or 68 to get to Saratoga, so the store isn't very far.

Another option to keep in mind is one of the shopping services -- WeGoShop or Garden Grocer.

I believe Garden Grocer has an online shopping list, presumably with each item marked up slightly, and you are limited to that list.

WeGoShop will shop anywhere you specify (including WalMart or Costco) and adds a small fee to the store receipt. That allows you to specify not only the store, but also specific brands, flavors, package sizes, etc.

Both will deliver to your resort, and from what I've heard their price differential over shopping for yourself is very reasonable.

We really like the Winn Dixie, they have a great deli section. :thumbsup2

And if you go what we consider the back way, you avoid all that Downtown Disney traffic and the outlet traffic.

We stay at OKW and like going to the Winn Dixie, going out the 'back way' to avoid the traffic. There's also an ABC store in the same shopping center.

The ABC had a major fire and right now are closed. And yes I agree about the traffic, I like Publix but hate the congestion on that end of Apoka Vineland.

I second that and want to add... Never go this direction on a Sunday. Traffic control is terrible and the whole area is swamped because of the shrine and last minute purchases at the outlet mall.

We did the Winn Dixie for a few years, but it's prices are slightly higher (not nearly as bad as the places on 192) than Publix/Wal Mart going the other direction. I would definitely stop on the way over as the PP suggested and not get all your groceries in the WDW bubble, you will most likely get some better selection/less crowds. ;)

I vaguely remember someone talking about the Super Wal mart... has anyone shopped there?

In the past we have used Winn Dixie (using back way) as well... but not against trying something different.

I like the Publix at Xentury City. That's straight out Osceola Parkway -- the road that runs from Animal Kingdom to WWOS, and then right at Gaylord Palms. It's on the left after you go under the overpass. Publix has Boar's Head meat in the deli and amazing desserts. Their prices are what I pay here in CT.

My favorite is the Publix by the Premium Outlets!

Definitely avoid Goodings! By far the closest, but prices were crazy expensive! Most of the produce was truly awful, and a lot of dated items were expired!! It was like something out of the Twilight zone in there. The lights were very dim and we had to search for an employee to help us.

The Goodings is kind of sad. It use to be a premiere supermarket, but has been run down for the better part of a decade. Their bakery and deli was incredible and their selection of harder to find items was great.

Then they started to stock more and more "tourist trap" stuff. Now they have no better selection than a poorly stocked 7-11.

To be honest that whole shopping center has seen better days. Its almost like most of the owners have just given up.

Is there a place to pick up milk and maybe a few snacks within walking distance?

This is the one we use and we even got a discount card to use when we stock up for our stay. :thumbsup2

There is the Hess station across from DTD pleasure island area that some people walk to. They take the bus to DTD and then walk to Hess. The one near the BW would not be a good choice as you would have to change buses several times to do that.
We have found that some of the prices in the resort stores are not that bad when you consider what it would cost to have a delivery service or rent a car for just a few items. We have also packed some snack items in our luggage because we fly SW and there is extra room if we bring a small bag just for that. Coffee, filters and sugar are other items we bring along if we are not going to have a car.

I have shopped at the Walmart and it is the same as any other Walmart I have shopped in except for the many Disney and Florida type items that are available. It is a few miles down 535 (?) and was not that crowded but then I was there on a dark rainy night so that probably had something to do with it.
