Closest airport to Universal Studios

We're thinking about extending our stay in California by 1 day so that we can go to Universal Studios to see the new King Kong ride. We'll probably find a hotel close to Universal for the night and then fly out the next day. Does anyone know which airport is closest to Universal? Thanks!

Burbank Airport is about 15 minutes away (with no traffic)
Its a nice small airport that we use when we are flying short distances (like to Arizona or Las Vegas)

We flew into LAX, no Burbank from our airport.

Yep to the above - BUR is closest to Universal, with LAX next closest.

Melora - Thanks for the info on the distance to Burbank Airport. Yahoo maps said it was almost an hour away but that didn't sound right.

With the maps, they are probably having you take freeways that take you way out of the way.

From Universal you would take Barham Blvd into Burbank, turn left on Hollywood Way and take that about 5-6 (?) miles to the airport..pretty straightforward

Thanks Melora, I printed out your directions, they seem pretty easy. Any suggestions for a hotel? We're looking for something close but not too pricey, something like the Fairfield Inn (that where we're staying when we go to Disney).

I too am very interested in hotels for this area. I am hearing that the Hollywood area isn't the best of spots.

We've had several friends stay at the Sportsman Lodge on Ventura and Laurel Canyon, but I dont know who much it is, though these people are not ones for staying in expensive places.

There is the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn on Vineland

There is the Days in on Ventura Blvd

Best Western Mikado on Riverside

I've never stayed at any of these as I lived within 1-3 miles of Universal for most of my life.
