HI. I am trying to meet up with other people for lunch on New Year's Day and would like to be at AK that day. They will not have park tix and we do not want to eat at RFC again. Want to try somewhere else new. What's the closest place on property to eat so that we could quickly (hopefully!) get back to AK after lunch. Thanks!! We will not have a car so we would have to take Dis Transportation.

The closest resort would be AK (Boma & Jiko); followed by CSR (Maya Grill); followed by the Yacht & Beach Club Resorts (Yachtsman, Cape May, Beaches & Cream) and Swan & Dolphin and then Downtown Disney which would be farthest but would have the most dining choices for lunch. Of the resort restaurants, I'm not sure which, if any, other than Beaches and Cream are open for lunch. This is assuming you are looking for a TS restaurant as opposed to a counter service. Another poster might know for sure. :)

How about something at Animal Kingdom Lodge?

Aside from that the closest properties are McDonald's, All Stars and Coronado Springs.

Okay - I just pulled out the dining guide. At AKL there is also The Mara, which does serve lunch and at the Yacht & Beach Club there is Hurrican Hanna's Grill and the Captain's Grill which both serve lunch. It sounds like Mara would be your best bet.

Jiko doesn't serve lunch, and Maya Grill is a buffet at lunch. I think Mara is counter service.
TS options seem pretty limited anywhere near the AK.

If you want something very close to AK, I think your one & only option is Mara at AKL. Neither Boma or Jiko are open for lunch (you could maybe get a very late breakfast ADR at Boma though).

Otherwise you'll have to go to another resort. The Epcot resorts aren't that far but most of them don't have a lunch TS (except Beaches & Cream?).

I think Boma serves breakfast 'til 11 or so. That would be my choice. Or head over to one of the monorail resorts? Kona at the Polynesian is nice for lunch.

AK now has more table service options... it's not just the RFC anymore.

In the park there's also:

Yak and Yeti
Tusker House (now a buffet)

Might be worth trying one of those instead of leaving the park.

Sorry, didn't notice that your friends won't have park tickets.

If it was me, I'd be taking a taxi out to 192 via Sherberth Road. Lots of restaurants nearby. Or taxi to Downtown Disney.

Seriously, it's not worth going to AKL to eat in the food court there.

The OP states they are meeting up with others who don't have park tickets.

You don't really have any table service lunch options nearby (other than RFC). Boma, Jiko and Maya Grill, while nearby, don't appear to serve lunch. I'd go so far as to say the closest would be at the Swan/Dolphin, which don't take the dining plan if you're using that.

At the Epcot resorts, I think the only places that serve lunch are Big River Grill, Beaches & Cream, ESPN and Captain's Grill.

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate all your suggestions. You guys always come through.

I agree to take a taxi somewhere. It will be much quicker.
I met family once and we ate at Kona Cafe! It was terrific!
You can't beat the atmosphere there. :goodvibes

Happy planning!
