I think part of it was also the way she worded the OP. It ended with a quote along the lines of "Why wouldn't anybody want to own a gun?" which, let's face it, is a very loaded question. Maybe if she had commented on just what the thread title was (Police response to home invasions) then it would have turned out differently.

The thread that was closed was about guns, but wasn't political. The OP asked what people thought about having guns in your home, in light of recent home invasions that turned deadly. Specifically one that occurred in the OP's home state.

Nothing was political, until certain posters came in the thread and said, "watch out, this will turn political", or "be careful, political threads aren't allowed." They added nothing to the discussion, and were the only ones that brought politics into the thread. In all the years I've been on this site, I've never understood why people feel the need to reply to a thread they aren't interested in. Some people need to get a life.

Thats the part that ticks me off. We have political police now (?) and what, they decide what is political and what isnt?
FTR - I didnt think it was a political thread either, what do I know. It was an interesting thread.

The reality is that even logisitical discussions about something that the very existence of is a partisan political issue cannot help but be tacitly a political statement itself. If the political issue was whether or not beef should ever be cooked as steak (as opposed to just roasts), then any discussion about how to tell when a steak is medium-rare versus medium is a tacit statement in favor of cooking beef as steaks.

(And don't get this vegetarian started about cooking beef in the first place! )
