Just got home.:sad1:

We had a wonderful time, except for one little problem on our last day that I won't go into detail with.

Everyone we met were very nice! All the kids got along great! Leighanna misses her new friends already!

Very windy here. Lots of turbulance on the landing, and Leighanna was having some ear issues too. Not fun!

I will try to post some pictures, or maybe even try to do a trip report.

We had so many magical things happen to us on this trip, I don't want to forget any of them!

No time to go back and get caught up!

Yea!!! More babies. What great news, I'll be sending prayers your way! Although, I should tell you... my little guy is putting a big crimp in my sewing ;) He's worth it though  I do spend a lot of time on the interent... he nurses every 3-4 hours for at least an hour at a time so I just sit at my computer and surf.

Take care of yourself and enjoy every second of it, pregnancy is such a miracle.

Thanks very much!

Congrats to our preggo Disboutiquers. Prayers said for healthy pregnancies!!!

:goodvibes Thanks!

congrats... that is wonderful...hooray for baby
Thank you!!

Oooooh Hoooray!!! Happy Baby! :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cheer2: Wishing you a very happy and healthy baby growing months and a very happy healthy little one!
Thank you very much!!!

Ouch... who knew sewing could be so dangerous. I've sewn through my finger before but never burned myself!
Yowsers...I think I would prefer to burn my finger than sew THROUGH it. That must have hurt like crazy!!!! :scared1:

OH MY! I didn't think it would get hot like that either! Kind of makes me want to touch mine after a lot of sewing.:confused3
..
:scared1: Oh no, don't do it!!!!! My needle has never gotten hot like that...this was the only time. Perhaps it had to do with all the screwed up button-holes I attempted or getting stuck. All I know is it BURNED. I now have an indented scar that matches my needle exactly!!!! Yikes!!!

I have never burned my finger. OUCH..HOpe your finger feel better.I have had it gotten stuck in the middle of doing a buttonhole. I found a solution that has work really well for me and I haven't had that problem again... I cut a piece of Sulky Sticky and put in over the area where I want the buttonhole, and I sew over it...and it has always gone smoothly! When I am done, I just tear it off and you can't tell that there is a layer of Sulky under it.
Thanks, it does feel better today. That is a good idea you had, thanks! I actually ended up just cutting my own hole with scissors and then doing a satin stitch around it. Not perfect but should work just fine! I will post pics tomorrow!

MouseTripper- I have never burned my fingers - that seems odd.
You also may wish to add a bit of stabilizer under the spot you plan to place the button hole.
I suggest taking a strip of fabric, marking your button holes and practice doing 3 in a row, on the lines you drew (I use a white chalk like marking pencil) for button holes.
Is your machine an auto-button holer, or do you have to adjust zigzag width and then stop and bartack and then do another zig zag and finish with a bartack?
Aww thank you so much for all the info. As I mentioned up above, I cheated and just cut my own hole and stitched around it. LOL. I "think" my machine is an auto-button holer...?? It comes with some button-hole foot???!! And I am sure this is a stupid question but I have no idea what you mean when you say bartack???? (Sorry....in-hiding now, hanging head in shame).???? LOL

Coming out of partial lurkdome. . . .

So some of you may remember I said a few months ago that DH and I were starting to try for our first baby. . . well my period should have started days ago and I took a pregnancy test this morning (5:30am!!) and then another to be sure it was right, and they both showed up with two pink lines. We are waiting to tell the people we know until it is confirmed at the doctors, and some possibly until after the 12 week mark, but I HAVE to tell someone. SO I thought this group, with all of its love, support and prayers for one another, would be the place to come to. I am excited and so nervous at the same time. Your thoughts, prayers or good vibes :goodvibes would be very much appreciated. Six years ago next month I was diagnosed with cancer and being alive, let alone being able to conceive, is truly a miracle.

I am just praying for a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Thanks for letting me share
OH my goodness CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be praying for a safe and healthy pregnancy!!!

Yikes! I wouldn't have thought the needle would be hot like that.
Hope your finger feels better.
Thank you so much. It does feel better but my fingerprint is definitely altered for life!!!

Before we go I thought I would share one more Vday dress. I made this for both of my girls. My oldest does not like it. She said she likes the style of dress but not the fabric. She wore it though so that is all that matters. Later on she did thank me so I think it is growing on her. LOL

Awwww those are sooo cute!!!

You are too sweet! I'm so with you on the buttonholes! I have a pretty nice Janome, and the buttonholer is just awful. I think Louie may have done something to it when he was going through the "push every button" stage. Now he is at the "why?" stage, which is much less destructive but highly distracting. Anyway, I always make my buttonholes manually. I have an eBook that describes the technique in the free section at YCMT :) .
Awww, thank you so much Carla....I definitely need to go check out that ebook of yours!!! I hate making buttons....lol....as I said above, I totally cheated and just cut my own hole and stitched around it. Seems to have worked so I am happy! I just LOVE all your patterns. Everything seemed so easy this time around...oh and guess what?? I totally did that double lining thing (forget what you called each) on the jumper and impressed myself. The bodice definitely lays nicer with all of that!!! CARLA YOU ROCK GIRL - I AM LOVIN' YOU!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!!!! My next attempt is going to be one of your Raglan shirts. I am excited!!!! Wish me luck!!! Hahaha
:cool1:

Awww how cute! Your DD is so adorable.

My husband just got around to posting some pics from this summer. My Mom is a big time horseback rider so she made arrangments for her 2 granddaughters to be able to ride a large pony at the barn. I actually didnt know DD smiles at all as she cried quickly after getting on. I love this pic.
n743068622_2092181_3654.jpg

He was a very tall pony, wish they had some smaller ponies there!
Look at your little cutie!! What a doll!!!

They are so cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I only have button holes to add to the boys' v-day shirts and then they'll be done. But, I am such a terrible button hole maker that I decided to cheat and sew snaps on and sew buttons on top of the snaps. My excuse is that it's easier for them to put the shirts on that way. Could you possibly do that?
LOL....we can start our own cheatin' sewers club!!! I totally cheated and just sliced my own hole and stitched around it. :rotfl2: Hey it worked.....I might have to try the snap thing in the future....!!! Thanks. I wanna see the boys Vanetine's Day shirts. Please..please!!!

Hello everyone I hope things are great in your neck of the woods if not I hope it gets better.... I have a question for those that sell on :wizard: How do you make your listings? not pictures and stuff but the big picture. What pixels do you use? I have been searching online but not finding anything. TIA, Tina.

Well crap! Georgia has requested a Valentines day outfit for her Special Person day at school FRIDAY! She picked her pattern which is Daisy Kingdom 2994
2994.jpg

WHich I do have already. ... just not fabric she wants! But she also wanted the Peek a boo Twirl skirt (which we don't have) Either way I have to get to business tomorrow! I have to drop her off and then hit the fabric store right after. I really hope she won't be to upset that she wont get the top if I do the Daisy Kingom because its cold and raining here.

Does anyone have any skirt ideas that you think she would like that aren't too hard for little old me?!!

I can't wait to see pictures! I am so glad everyone had a great time. Glad to have you back! Don't keep us waiting too long with your report! The rest of us need to live through you. hehe

Thank you all so much. :)

The pattern is the Marieke. I do like it a lot but it seems to run a bit short. The pattern does not call for a ruffle but I am really glad I added it. The dress would have short on both of my girls.

I do the peasant tops a couple different ways. I have finished the edges with a straight hem or a rolled hem. Sometimes I add a ruffle. I normally prefer to wear the top under something. My DD4 is built like a pole and DD2 is petite. Sometimes the peasant tops can be a little too big on their own. I have added sashes or shirred the backs to give the tops a more fitted look.

The nicest thing about the peasant tops is how once you get the hang of them they go by so quickly. :)

Here are a couple more pics from today.

that is really cute! What about a strip work skirt they go together pretty fast? or a layered twirl?

I think stripwork would be your best bet. Here is my daughter's Valentines dress that I made in about 2 hours last night (very last minute) (watching american idol on and off). It came out pretty cute and she loves it. Today is her Valentines Day at school.

My 8 year old went to Joanns with me last night and wanted something with the skunk valentines fabric that said "love stinks." She is not too much into skirts and dresses (like my other daughter) so she asked for a headband. I used Carla's Big beautiful Bows pattern, modified it a little (because I only bought 1/4 of a yard) and measured it for her head. I was kind of shocked, she really likes it!

Hi,

I have not posted on or looked at this thread in ages. I actually have some fabric I bought to make minnie inspired dresses 2 years ago! I guess it has been aging! Can you direct me to posts regarding the favorite fabric and pattern sources of this group?

Thanks!

OK I have been working my butt off sewing for my family. I will post pictures of all the outfits this weekend.
But I have a serger question.
For those of you with the Walmart singer serger can you tell me what settings you use for a rolled hem and what settings you keep it at for normal serging. I haven't used my serger in quite some time and it just isn't set up right anymore and I have tried many settings and just can't get it right and I don't have time to mess with it so I figured you all would know here. TIA

Cool! Where would we do a campfire meet? I am so not a nature girl! George and i where just talking about possibly doing the Hoop dee doo revue? though he wants to do the luau again.
Fort Wilderness has a Campfire and outdoor movie every night. It is free (!) and really fun! Chip and Dale are there as well, and you can roast marshmallows.
Hoop dee doo is fantabulous!!

I'm going at that same time and I would love to meet you guys.
Yay!!! A Mini disboutique meet!

Here is my first attempt at the roundneck top/dress pattern from ycmt. It went together pretty easily. Going to start her valentines one now.
SO cute!! I have yet to try this pattern.
Here are the pictures from the "Wax Museum" at Arminda's school today. All of the 5th graders were suppose to be famous African American's. Arminda was Serena Williams.

S6300016.JPG

Here she is next to Jesse Jackson

S6300017.JPG

There is Rosa Parks too! Harriet Tubman is way down there in the black.

S6300019.JPG

Then, I went to Lydia's class to see if they were going. Lydia's teacher told me they wer going down to see Arminda right after their snack. So, I stuck around and waited with them while they ate. Lydia was actually very happy to see me!!! Really! It seems like every time I go to take her picture in public, she ends up making this face when seconds before she had a huge grin on her face!

S6300020.JPG

S6300026.JPG

Arminda was excited to see Lydia coming and Lydia was really excited to see Arminda! Really, you are going to have to trust me on this, Lydia was excited!!
S6300027.JPG

I made the skirt for her, Carla's Perfectly Prepy founcy skirt, or course! And the shirt I made with Carla's raglan top pattern at the beginning of the school year.

Arminda was not happy that she was wearing "dorky socks" and was sure that several people had looked down at her feet at them. (She whispered this to me while I was standing near her!)
So cute! What a fun idea! Arminda looks adorable, and I think her socks are fine.;)

Here are some things I have been working on for our May trip:

This is for travel day. I copied the clip art image from a diser on the disign board. I had saved it a few years ago (before I sewed) with the intention of doing iron-ons. Never got to the iron-ons but decided to applique it instead.

We will be in EPCOT during the flower and garden festival so this Vida was made with that in mind.

I LOVE this vida!! What a great idea. DO you think I could pull a food and wine Vida off? :lmao:
Finally finished my easter pics...... it has been raining here for days!!!

Super cute!

And the finished product is this:

skirt, top, and "undersleeves"

complete with a bustle on the back:
P2110159.jpg

It looks really big for her, but she will be wearing TWO full-length pettis underneath to give it the fullness it needs.

I had to decide if I wanted to spend $30.00 on fabric or $9.99 on twin size sheets at WalMart. I chose $9.99. Yes, this is made out of sheets. Also, the front of the blouse is velcro all the way down and the buttons are hot glued on. I really didn't want to make 14 buttonholes.

PoohnpigletCA hasn't seen it yet. I can't wait to have pictures of her dd in it!

For now, thank God, it's done!:woohoo:
Absolutley amazing!!

We are off to see Coraline on this beautiful day. :)

so Spring-y and cute. I love all of the poka dots, and the wee bunny is sweet!

Okay, you may remember the discussion: little one needs to do a report on a composer...she chose Clara Schumann. She looked like this:

This turned out beautiful. I had valences and curtains in my old home made out of sheets. I searched forever to try to find fabric, and then one day found sheets, and was like "HEY!!!!! These work for me!"

I made a skirt last year for my daughter out of a valence. Easiest thing ever! Just sewed up the side and stuck elastic in the rod opening:)

I think stripwork would be your best bet. Here is my daughter's Valentines dress that I made in about 2 hours last night (very last minute) (watching american idol on and off). It came out pretty cute and she loves it. Today is her Valentines Day at school.

Aimee. I messed up my multi quote, but really like the dresses on the girls.

that sounds fun! What do the other November trippers think????

I am still working on our outfits. I have two sets of three that totally complete and can go in the luggage. I got some of the Nemo's appliques ready but don't have the shirts. I also got a great skull and crossbones from Crystal for the shirts. Again, no shirts. I ran out of interfacing and buttons too. I need a few zippers also.

I worked on the AK outfits and did DS shirt but didn't have enough fabric for my skirt. I am going to the city on Sat for the shirts and see if I can find more fabric. If I can't I will cut up the fabric I have and insert other colours. I put a panel on the back and want to make a Mickey head of the animal print in. I have never used fabric and am hesitant to try.

Today is the dragon fabric! I plan to make DS another bowling shirt and a princess cut simple dress for me with the dragons on the side.

I am trying hard to get the outfits done in time along with planning the trip, cleaning the house and working out so I can walk the parks.

I will get pictures once we get the T-shirts done. Hoping everyone is doing well, great pictures of the trip.

For those involved in the Big Give or who follow the Wish trip stories, Maroo pm'd me that Jakob (dis name - dmbfan) received some bad test results. If you get a chance and would like to post a message on their PTR, I am sure they would appreciate it!

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2034240

On a happier note, everyone's outfits are gorgeous as always and congratulations on all the new babies!

Aimee. I messed up my multi quote, but really like the dresses on the girls.

Thank you so much!

When I really get into it, I can sew pretty quick. It's not allways perfect but it's done! :rotfl: The bow came out much better than I thought it was going to. I also made that last night. I forgot to mention that the skunk fabric was flannel and I wasn't sure if it would work but I think it turned out pretty nice.

I finally took some pictures of all the things I have finished in the last month or so. We head to Disney at the end of next month and I think I am finished sewing. I have some bows to make and maybe a tee or two for the adults in the group but the kids clothes are finished. Well, I may or may not embellished some shorts for my youngest with the same material used for his shirts. Here goes:

Here are my oldest son's array of shirts. He is 6.5 and seems to be really excited that I would do this for him. He is so cute!
IMG_0290.jpg

Next up is what I finally decided on for our dinner at the Wilderness Lodge. However after reading a few trip reports I sure hope our experience is better.
IMG_0291.jpg

Here is the final outfit for Ainsley, I repurposed a pair of jeans that were too short and made them into capris and also did the skirt. She can wear whichever.
IMG_0294.jpg

My youngest son is 2 and doesn't really care what he wears but seems to get really excited when he sees his shirts. "Mine?, mine?"
IMG_0295.jpg

The Leo tee is the one I am most proud of, it was the most complicated applique I have done to date. I think it turned out great and the best thing is that Jack LOVES it!
IMG_0296.jpg

IMG_0298.jpg

And just because I had these overalls laying around I added Rocket to them. It got a little tricky at the top when I apparently didn't take into account the metal latch part. I ended up having to hand sew a bit at the top that I just couldn't get my machine to.
IMG_0299.jpg

And finally pics from this morning of Ainsley in one of her valentines dresses. This is the fabric she chose and is wearing to preschool today. I am almost done with the one with fabric that I chose. She will wear it to church and I think will be fine to wear at other times as well. Let's just say it doesn't have any candy hearts on it!

IMG_0286.jpg

IMG_0287.jpg

And because Jack had to get in on the action too...
IMG_0289.jpg

Ainsley is driving me crazy this morning. She just can't wait to go to her "balentimes party" and show off her new dress. We still have another 20 minutes before we can leave. On the other hand it is nice to know she appreciates my work.

I just sent out the crayon rolls for the Big Give,Now I can move on to trying my hand at another stripwork Jumper...Hopefully it will look better this time! :lmao:
