Coming out of partial lurkdome. . . .

So some of you may remember I said a few months ago that DH and I were starting to try for our first baby. . . well my period should have started days ago and I took a pregnancy test this morning (5:30am!!) and then another to be sure it was right, and they both showed up with two pink lines. We are waiting to tell the people we know until it is confirmed at the doctors, and some possibly until after the 12 week mark, but I HAVE to tell someone. SO I thought this group, with all of its love, support and prayers for one another, would be the place to come to. I am excited and so nervous at the same time. Your thoughts, prayers or good vibes :goodvibes would be very much appreciated. Six years ago next month I was diagnosed with cancer and being alive, let alone being able to conceive, is truly a miracle.

I am just praying for a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Thanks for letting me share

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

:cheer2:Welcome:cheer2: Carla's updated patterns are updated in your library. You will just need to redownload them and replace the one's that you have already downloaded.

:thumbsup2 Thanks, Crystal! I just finished three more of them - I posted about it on my blog: http://scientificseamstress.blogspot.com/2009/02/update-x-3.html
I forgot to mention it in the blog post, but I added multiple cutting lines to the bowling shirt (for tall skinny kiddos like Mr. Sawyer :) ). I also added some better photos and additional instructions for attaching the collar.

Okay, you may remember the discussion: little one needs to do a report on a composer...she chose Clara Schumann.

And the finished product is this:

For now, thank God, it's done!:woohoo:

That is AWESOME!!! She is going to get an A++++!

Attempting button-holes can be DANGEROUS to ones health and well-being!!! I have created my very first THREE-PIECE (yes, that is 3) outfit. I was so proud of myself. It is a Vanetine's Day outfit for my sweet daughter. It consists of pants, peasant shirt and solid jumper top. All created from the absolutely wonderful patterns of CarlaC. (Thanks Carla)!!!

Anyway....getting to the dangerous part. Everything was stitched, sewn and looking good with the exception of the dreaded BUTTON-HOLES!!! That is the ONLY part I have left! Now I am not completely crazy so I knew to practice on some scrap fabric. After reading my machine's manual and thinking I knew what I was doing, I attempted to make a button-hole. Initially it seemed to be working but then of course everything stopped and got stuck. It was at this point everything went WRONG!!! Oh my goodness, I TOUCHED the needle and BURNED the heck out of my fingertip!!! Yes BURNED it.....BAD!!! Is it just me or my machine or has this happened to anyone else? I had NOOO idea the tip of the needle got so flipping HOT!!!!!

Now my finger still hurts and I have yet to learn how to make a stinkin' hole for a button. That is ALL I have to do before I complete my daughter's Valentine's Day outfit. Her school party is Thursday so I have one day left!!!! Wish me luck....or maybe I should just resort to velcro tape!!??? Perhaps use a knife and just make my own hole for those darn buttons??? Who knows....LOL

You are too sweet! I'm so with you on the buttonholes! I have a pretty nice Janome, and the buttonholer is just awful. I think Louie may have done something to it when he was going through the "push every button" stage. Now he is at the "why?" stage, which is much less destructive but highly distracting. Anyway, I always make my buttonholes manually. I have an eBook that describes the technique in the free section at YCMT :) .

OMG!! That costume is fantastic!

I bought 2 more bundles yesterday of CarlaC's patterns. LOVE THEM!! I have no idea how I ever sewed without them. I LOVE YOU CARLA!!! LOL!

Now my collection includes: bowling shirt, raglan, preppy skirts, patchwork twirl, simply sweet, A-line, scalopini twirl, perfect fit pants, stripwork jumper and peasant top.

Whooo Hooo!!! I doubt I will be buying any more patterns for a good long while!

I know- I like to collect them too!
I have....
easy fit pants, (love this, made a lot of shorts and pants)
portrait peasant top/dress, (love this too!)
simply sweet, (havent tried it yet)
A line, (LOVE this too! So easy and cute!)
I think I have the flouncy skirt,
bowling shirt
then for "others" I have the
She Loves Me Knot bag, (this was fun, not hard, but time intensive)
Nanoo Design Annette reversible sundress- I think that came in a bundle I bought
Tana Tutu dress (I know I bought the stuff to do the "tutu" part and never did it
Karen capri pants and halter top
dainty designs peasant dress (I bought this by accident, it was my first purchase and I thought it was Carla's)

What's embarassing is that I have only done probably half of those patterns!
I have told myself I am not allowed to buy anything else until I have completed at least 2 more of the patterns I have purchased!
I would really like the wrap dress pattern.....but really- I need to try simply sweet next- perhaps a combo of that with easy fit pants....Hmmmm...

 Thank you!!! Wow - I am really feeling the Disboutique love today!!!

OK, this is what made me come out of partial lurkdom today...CONGRATS!!! :yay: :yay: :yay: You are going to be a wonderful mommy! You are going to have so much fun sewing for this little one!!!

WOOHOO!!!!! HOW EXCITING!!!! I know when I got pregnant this time I was in disbelief for the first half of the day. Are you still in shock??

Ill be praying for you to have a smooth, happy, healthy 9 months!!
Okay- so you are probably feeling pretty good right now...take advantage of that! What are you going to make for the baby???

:yay: :flower3: :wizard: CONGRATULATIONS!:woohoo:    :cool1: :cheer2: :cheer2:

and maaaaaaybe a little of this:scared1: but not too much!

I am still in shock. I thought I'd feel physically more different, but feel mostly normal - some mild cramping, so I thought I was going to get my monthly visitor, but nope. . . I have to get to a doctor to "confirm" and all that still, so maybe there will be less shock then. In terms of what I'm gonna make, I dunno yet! But believe me, it was one of the first fe things I thought of. I have been sewing for everyone else's babies for over a year, and no I will, through the grace of God, have my own to sew for!

I do have two yards of this material and I want to make a simple quilt or blanket from:

I will just keep praying all goes well, because I know how much can go wrong. . .

Did you make a top that sold on e-bay that said the word "TINK" but the angled parts of the K were made to look like Tink's wings? If you did, can I CASE it (it would be one top made for my dd who LOVES Tink, I wouldn't be selling it anywhere)?????

CONGRATULATIONS! That is such exciting news! Praying for a healthy pregnancy.

We are off to see Coraline on this beautiful day. :)

Before we go I thought I would share one more Vday dress. I made this for both of my girls. My oldest does not like it. She said she likes the style of dress but not the fabric. She wore it though so that is all that matters. Later on she did thank me so I think it is growing on her. LOL

LOVE this! Even the fabric :) ! What pattern did you use?

OK....WHERE are all the pics from the meet up??? I guess it's my fault for not taking my camera but as it was I was pregnant and trying to keep up w/ 2 little ones (well, a big and a little) If I lost DH's camera I'd be sunk!!

I had such a great time meeting everyone. Everyone was just as nice as you'd expect them to be and it was not at all like meeting them for the first time...you would have thought we were all old friends.

The kids got along famously too! I was so surprised. Other than Little not feeling well and the big boys refusing to play duck duck goose :rotfl2: there were no cranky kids, no tantrums...it all went SO smoothly.

I can't wait to see all the pics everyone took while we were there!!

That will make a great quilt!

QUESTION FOR YOU ALL
I am making my niece and nephew kind of matching outfits. I am using the white and blue pooh toile for my nieces dress do you think using that material on the cuff of easy fit shorts for my nephew is too girlie. He is only almost 2.

These are darling. THe fabric reminds me of a quilt my Grandmother did for me when I was little- very similar children- except they were in 70's green and orange were emphasized. I love these kids.
Did you use Carla's peasant top? Im curious how you finished the bottom of the blouse underneath...is it strictly for wearing under things, or is it finished so that they can wear it with pants, skirts, etc?

I love the Clara dress!

I got some fabric at wal-mart this weekend I spent $11 ,and bought a yard of each
fabric019.jpg

The princess is for pillow cases I figured for 3.50 a yard I could make both Katie and Madi somthing! :confused3
fabric020.jpg

Look at all the ribbon I found at Michaels in the $1 bin!

This fabric is for a pair of board short's for Tyler,
fabric023.jpg

I got it for a dollar, any guesses what it was?

A Nautica shower curtain! :rotfl:

I also have this fabric but I just cant figure out what to make with it.

As you can see we have pushed back our Florida vacation until May 2-9, this gives me time to figure out what to make with my princess pillowcases:rotfl2:

I thought there was going to be a Mini Meet in May, But wasnt sure if I had read wrong.

We are going to be down May 2-9th, Staying offsite at Orange Lake resort.

Hello all. I have the brother cs6000i sewing machine. I bought a ruffler foot from hancock's when they were on sale and finally got around to trying it out the other day. Well, I don't know if it is my machine or the foot, but it DOES NOT work!! It makes a really loud banging noise, and was not easy to optimize like carlac said it should be. Very sad:sad1: - I was so looking forward to ruffling like crazy.

Does anyone have this machine, and, if so, what ruffler do you use?? I see that Brother makes a ruffler foot for 7mm machines - the SA143 - would this work??

Thanks!!
