Crystal, you are so sweet! I am glad you figured out your sleeves/shorts problem and I can't wait to see the skirt.

WENDY I am so sorry I meant to try to help you earlier and then got distracted. I have an almost 15 year old Kenmore and while I love it, it can cause some problems, especially like you are describing with the bottom thread bunching up like that. This is what I do when it happens, in this order.

1) Rethread the machine. Sometimes the thread comes out of the little holders. I also rethread the bobbin, sometimes the thread gets caught on it. If that doesn't fix it, go to #2

2) Replace the needle. Sometimes when the needle is dull it causes problems. If that isn't it, go on to #3

3) Take out the bobbin and shuttle case and clean and oil. Unscrew the face plate and clean and oil. Run some scrap fabric to make sure you get all the oil out.

Usually it's #1, but if I get to #3, it really needs it! I have had it since we first were married and I have never had to get it serviced (much to my mother's dismay, lol). If you need directions on how to take it apart, pm me and I will copy mine and send them to you. It's really easy once you do it a couple of times. I also have a page of troubleshooting I could copy for you too, but once I do those three things it always works fine. HTH!

Has anyone heard that Hancock's filed for bankruptcy?

Thanks so much steph!!! I might like the problem solving page to have on hand -lol!!!!!

I just found you guys a few weeks ago and have read all of the last thread & this thread--whew, you all stay busy! I wish I had found you sooner since we leave for Disney tomorrow :cheer2: Anyway, I did see where someone posted about the mock smock dresses where you just have to sew the back seam, so off I went to JoAnn's. They only had to Pooh fabric, but I figured it was a good starting point and with so little time it would work. I haven't decided which color shirt to put under them yet. Anyway, here's what I have for this trip:

I do have Mickey bows for DD3 to wear too, which I made for the last trip (DD1 doesn't have enough hair for bows). I'll have to attempt some of the other beautiful outfits I've seen ya'll post before our next trip! Thanks for the inspiration!

Sorry--I don't know how to make the pics smaller...

I also made DD3 a Tinkerbell fleece blanket & the seams are horrendous, but I at least I won't feel bad as she drags it everywhere... I have not sewn since middle school (a LOOOONG time ago) & I hated since my Mom kept tearing out the seams of that pillow & making me do it over & over again until it was perfect! But, the thought of some adorable Disney outfits for the girls just might get me back on the bandwagon. My MIL gave me her ANCIENT White sewing machine, but there is a ruffler in with it, so I'll have to give that a shot.

Stevens Point is a wonderful place!!!! :thumbsup2 I lived there for 4 years moved back to Iowa and when I get done with Nursing school I am going back!!

It is centrally located in Wisconsin so you are within driving distance of Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Minneapolis. It has a great public and parochial school system. There is an University there UW Stevens Point. It is what I call a little big city. Let me know if you want to know anything else, I would love to help you out with any general questions. That would be very exciting for me...someone from the disboard in the same town as me!! :cheer2:

I'M HERE ALREADY!! I have lived in this area most of my life. Minus early childhood, college and a couple years in Milwaukee. I know the area very well!

You ladies have been chatty today!! I am just now catching up. My 17mo DS had surgery this morning (tubes and adnoids) and he was really SLOW to come out of his anestesia. He is still really groggy.

Anyway, so much cute stuff!!!!! Ugh! I lost my multi-quotes! Oh, well.

I love the Steam Boat Willie Dress!!!

The jumper with the dots is cute. Never too many dots!

The minnie princess shirts. Where those a purchase or an iron on??

hi
does anyone know a good guide to use for making a quilt
I've sewn some squares together so i have a lot of rows of squares and i am now not really sure what to be doing next

:wizard: is way expensive. This site has some Disney fabrics for a good proce (some even lower than walmart): http://www.fabricsgalore.com/catalog.php I just ordered (on the 20th) a few things I HAD to have, because I don't find much in terms of character fabric in Miami and they shipped the 21. . . fast turn around. . . I'll post once I receive it. But I know Linette had good luck with them.

Here's my source:

I'll go and check for that PM, because I haven't found how to make it email me when I get a PM.

I see! I thought you meant Montgomery Wards. We always just called it Wards. Still interesting though!

First, those pictures are the PERFECT size! Please don't try to make them smaller!

That preshirred fabric is really great, isn't it! It's easy to do yourself (if your sewing machine cooperates) too! There are lots of tutorials in the bookmarks about it.

The dresses and shirts are so cute!! Your daughters are going to look adorable!

I have to wonder how old your ancient White sewing machine is! You might want to be careful using that terminology around here, some of us aren't exactly young! :thumbsup2 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I ordered from fabricsgalore.com when Linette originally posted about them. I got my order in two days and the fabric was great. I would highly recommend them!

The mock smock dresses are so cute! I was at my Joann's this morning and saw that fabric and thought "that is cute fabric, someone on disboutique should make a dress from that". Ta-da, I check the board and here it is!!

Crystal,

I want to see pictures soon. The skirt is going to be wonderful because you made it. Please post when you can.

No shirt today, just hours of snow plowing. I am just exhausted and need to sleep a bit.

Uh, I meant ancient in terms of sewing machines! It's just a major pain to get the tension set right (took me a couple of years to figure out that's what was wrong with it:rotfl2: ) It's not an antique or anything, but I think it's probably as old as I am (and I'm not that young either). It's a model 3800. The picture on the manual looks to be like from the early 70s. After my MIL gave it to me, I had her make me curtains for the 1st baby's room & said she could use it, but she said "Oh no, mine at home is much easier to use!" Ummm thanks for giving me something that's a pain! :confused3

HEY HEY... DH works in Stevens Point. We live 30 minutes away. Let me know if you have questions or what not. You can also PM me.

I pmed you!

WOW! Itis so cool to find 2 of you who live/lived there! I don't want to get my hopes up, but I think we would love to move there. Of course, dh said he will freeze to death!

Ok here is Jenna's Valentine's Day outfit. Well one of them atleast. She picked some other fabric and I told her that I would make her another outfit with it. We have decided that hearts can be worn anytime of the year.

I tried to get one of her twirling, but the wind is blowing too hard. She loves her outfit. She won't take it off and can't wait until we go get DH from work so she can show it off. I think when I make her another one I will make the size 8. This one is a little tight on her.

I think it is very pretty with the white. Jenna saw it and she wants me to make her one like that, but with Kitten fleece. I think I can handle that request.
I bet it would be cute with kitten fabric-can't wait to see yours.

I too odered after Linnette posted and got it quickly. Nice stuff! I got a some Disney fabrics and a sort of safari one and a palm tree one to make my DS some bowling shirts for our May trip.

CUTE!!!!! The forecast is showing Orlando warming up! I'll be there on Tuesday night! Have a magical trip!

You ladies have been chatty today!! I am just now catching up. My 17mo DS had surgery this morning (tubes and adnoids) and he was really SLOW to come out of his anestesia. He is still really groggy.

Hope he recovers quickly and the tubes work well for him!pixiedust:

YAY! Thanks a bunch!:cool1:

So stinkin' cute! Jenna and Megan can be twins! I was definitely counting on the fact that hearts can be worn year round. That's funny that it's a little tight. I am always making things a little too big and Megan is constantly hitching them up. It's hard to get it exactly right, isn't it?

Hey, everyone should check out the YCMT blog! They have a chance at being recognized as One of America’s Top Mom-Owned Businesses!
Here's the link to read about it: http://ycmt.wordpress.com/2009/01/22/we-need-your-help/

Adorable! Did you make the elongated peasant top?
