Hey all! I haven't had a chance to do much but skim this week, but I'm loving all this cute stuff!!!

Shannon got me pondering sashes last week, so I've been experimenting:

In the front, it is regular 2" wide belt...
springsash2.jpg

In the back, it is a big full BOW!
springsash1.jpg

And (mostly because the picture is so cute) here is the elongated portrait peasant without the sash...
springsash3.jpg

To make the bow, the sash has to have some shape to it. I was thinking of making a little freebie pattern out of it, but wanted to get feedback here first. Is the belt part wide enough? Is the bow too big? Should I do a few different sized bows? The belt part is based on waist measurement, so it should fit all sizes.

Thanks, all :goodvibes !

LOVE it! I think that a few different sized bows would be great, that way the maker could decide depending upon how formal they want the sash to be. Another thought - is it possible at all to figure out how to do a sew in back sash only? Let me see if I can find a pic...

OK - here's a pic of the front of a peasant
IMG_3696.jpg

And the back
IMG_3725-1.jpg

It's just sewn into the side seams. SO, maybe just deduct half of the waist measurement and divide in half? That SOUNDS like it would work...?

I have a little tear in my rotator cuff and just bothers me now and then. I went to physical therapy for it but it didn't seem to help.

I did buy it last summer thinking it would be a cool summer top and never got around to it. Don't you wish you could just give it to Carla and ask her to rewrite and make it better? That's what I think when I get it out and look at it.
Ouch! sorry you are hurting!

Here in North Carolina we don't get much snow, but this morning we woke up to about an inch of it. And yes...they closed all the schools, daycares, churches and lots of businesses!

th_DSCF0721.jpg

And yes...I still have some decorations up around my door. I was going to get it down today...but it is a little cold out.
Ah I miss those days in GA!

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! I say offer the bow in different widths and sizes because kids come in different widths and sizes:rotfl:

Any one know of a tutorial on installing and using a walking foot???
I got one for Christmas and I am trying to use it and it isn't working at all! my needle keeps breaking.

I love it. I think I like a bigger sash...but on some shirts I would like the smaller one. I can't wait to make a paesant top with the new adaptions!

I made this today! It's for my DD to wear on Chinese New Year. It's not quite complete. The pattern calls for a ribbon tie closure. I'm not sure that I like the idea of that. I'm afraid that it'll fall off if it comes untied. I'm thinking of adding a button closure that is covered with a big sash bow. OR a frog type closure. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.

IMG_4234-1.jpg

Wow! That is gorgeous. I am now stalking that fabric on :wizard:
Unless anyone knows where else to find it.

Also how many yards would you need for a 5 year old?

I lived in Burlington, NC for a year. I remember one snowflake fell out of the sky and EVERYTHING closed.

I saw that fabric on warmbiscuit.com. I almost ordered it to make that same dress. Now I am definitely going to order it.

I have the Costco Brother machine and the needle has to be moved to the middle position when using the walking foot - I broke a couple of needles before finding that out.:thumbsup2

How do you guys organize your fabric scraps?

I have seen the pictures of some of your sewing areas and I am jealous of the space and organization... I have tired to to a better job of organizing my fabric stash. But I seem to keep running into a problem with all the scraps.
You know all the little pieces and odd shaped things that are left over after a project. How do you organize those? Any ideas better than my shoe box size container that is full of misc colors and sizes?

Just curious.
And now back to the :laundy:... its a never ending pile of clothes today ;)

I was trying to do that but i am not sure the needle moved:confused3 i probably should look in my book on how t do that! I would assume the brother embroidery machine would ahve that feature:confused3

Can you share how you celebrate? Any special traditions or anything? Our family celebrates because our daughter is Chinese. But since we are not, we sorta struggle with knowing exactly what to do. So far, our celebration has only included the traditional giving of the red envelopes and going out to dinner at a Chinese food restaurant with other families that have adopted children from China. I'd like to start some sort of tradition, but I just don't know what.

Shannon, my DH is Chinese and all we do is go to Panda Express. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: But when the kids were younger, its was just at a local Chinese restaurant and the kids all got red envelopes! So looks like you are doing the right things!

I just posted directions for bows on another thread in this forum.

These are the Cinderella bows I made:

That is so cute. I wish I could make bows!

So exactly what is a walking foot? I have seen it mentioned many times, but really have no idea what it is.

Or have no system and every time you need a piece of fabric, its a trip to Joann's. Then when you don't need that fabric, you find the 3 yard piece that you bought buried under other fabric! :confused3

I lost a few of my quotes, but Carla, I love the big bow!! I can't wait for that!

That is so funny...we did not even get that much snow! (for everybody, we only live about 30 minutes apart)...but yes, we were out of school today. The kids went out and played for a while in it...before it all melted.

I lived in Burlington, NC for a year. I remember one snowflake fell out of the sky and EVERYTHING closed.

I just moved from that area last year...we were in Mebane. And yes...they roll up the streets around there when it snows even one flake! But to defend it, we have no idea how to drive in that stuff in the south!:sad2: I am sorry to have to admit it. The only two wrecks I have been in, was in the snow. I prefer to just stay home now.

I have lurked and looked at all the beautiful stuff posted...you guys have been crazy busy! I wish I was that quick...I did buy fabric for the big give I signed up for...that counts for something, right?

Patrick is all better now. His fever went away by yesterday morning...so I guess the snow worked out good for him! Gave him another day to relax.

Oh...this is sooo off topic....but does anybody else have the Scene it! Disney game? If you don't....get it! Katie got it for Christmas and we finally played it last night...it was so much fun!

Hey Linda, pop in more often! Cute bow!

I had a break through last night with DH. We were discussing things that are necessary and unnecessary in our lives. Anyways I got him to admit that some of my fabric is necessary. :cool1: I am wearing him down! Little by Little. I will eventually win.
Good girl!! You are teaching him!

I like this!!! I always make my sashes 3" wide, so I would like it a bit wider myself. I really like the looks of this though! Especially the bow in back!!! I guess I vote for a few diferent width options!

Misty, it's good to see you posting!

Shoot, someone asked something that I was going to comment on, but I must not have quoted it and now I don't remember what it was!!!

I used Carla's Simply Sweet pattern--the halter version. I just used the pillowcase, I did not applique it.

IMG_0264-2.jpg
IMG_0254-1.jpg

I think that is the pillowcase I used for this:
100_4978.jpg

What a great idea!! I Love these outfits! :thumbsup2 It inspired me to go through my linen closet & I found a couple of older Pooh & Tigger pillowcases that I don't have the sheets for anymore & I also found some Mickey & Pluto, Pooh & Tigger & Pumba & Simba fabric panels in my bin of fabric that were supposed to be to make pillows a few years ago...now, I've got a new & more fun use for them! :rotfl:

I'd love to see more outfits you girls have made out of pillowcases! :thumbsup2

That is just adorable!! She will love it!
Thanks! I hope so.

This is so fun. Great material!

That looks so snuggly!
Thanks. I was so excited to find that material for the skirt. The baby bunting looks very snuggly. I think I'm going to have to try a second one now that I think I figured out that pattern. It was a Royal PITA at first.

What a fabulous skirt! She is going to adore it!
I hope so. Thanks!

I love it! Where did you find that cool fabric?
Joann's. I went in with the shirt, figuring I could get some black and hotpink that matched and do a stripwork twirl skirt or something and right as I walked in the door, there was that bolt of fabric right out in front. I was very excited to find it.

I'm sorry, somehow I aggravated my shoulder and have been spending quality time with my friend the heating pad.

Wow, this is awesome! I really like the fabric, it goes with the shirt perfectly.

So cute! That reminds me, I have a baby present to make. I am not attempting anything that complicated just a rag quilt. I am sure the sleep sack will be much loved!
I hope your shoulder feels better. Sounds like what I am doing with my knee.

Thanks. I'm glad you like the skirt.

And having seen some of what you can make, if I can do the baby bunting in a couple of hours, you can. I'm not sure I want to attempt a rag quilt. It seems like too much work. :rotfl:

I love the sash. I agree that it might help to have different size bows so you can adjust depending on the kid/outfit.

That is really cool! I'm sure she'll love it!

Love all your fabric finds-especially the Dalmation print. Your baby bunting is adorable!
Thank you. I've been having fun buying fabric lately. That is only about half of what I have bought recently. I have some really cool fabric I ordered on ebay I am waiting on to arrive.

Cute stuff. I love the V-day stuff. I bought this fabric before Christmas to make something for my neice. I loved how it came out.

For those in NC with snow. I talked to my folks over lunch. They live in Fayteville where I grew up and they said they had 5" and it was still falling. That is a ton of snow for that part of the country. We rarely got more than 1-2 inches at a time.

Sue
It is a foot attachment that actually walks and is supposed to help with sewing knits and hard to sew fabrics. It helps to make them not shift. At least that is my understanding! LOL My mom got it for my for Christmas!

Glad Patrick is feeling better.

I want to get the new Disney scene it! We just got Disney's think Fast for the WII and the kids LOVE it!

3) That's a great idea! I would have to get a petti first though but I have been thinking about getting one anyway. I don't know if I could get one in time though. I was also toying with the horsey cordoroy fabric I already have, maybe a vest and matching skirt, do you think that would be too much?.

I still have some pettis from the lady that flaked on me. Some pink with red fluff, light pink with hot pink fluff, and green with red fluff. Let me know if you want one.

I did buy it last summer thinking it would be a cool summer top and never got around to it. Don't you wish you could just give it to Carla and ask her to rewrite and make it better? That's what I think when I get it out and look at it.
Steph that is too funny, because I was thinking the same thing.
