What is a "bear faced" room??
INNER COURTYARD VIEW ROOMS OFF THE LOBBY are known by DISers as “BEAR FACE ROOMS.” They are centered in the middle of the inner courtyard and they overlook the entire courtyard area from the balcony with the lobby below outside the front door. They are located on the 4th and 5th floors and are odd numbered from 4067-4079 and 5067-5069.

The posts about Bear Face rooms reminded me that I forgot to mention that the trees in the CY are not being trimmed anymore. When I was there in June/July, I asked about this. The CM told me that they also noticed the fact that the CY trees aren't being trimmed back. This makes the view of the geyser and Bay Lake obstructed. You used to be able to easily see the pool, geyser and Bay Lake from the CL lounge and from the Bear Face rooms. Now, the trees are blocking the view and are very overgrown. I don't know if they will be trimmed after the pool rehab and they're just letting them grow to purposefully obstruct any construction view or if this will be permanent. Just a warning to expect an obstructed view from Bear Face rooms and the CL lounge windows.

I also forgot to mention after I returned something I noticed about Roaring Fork. As has been mentioned, they recently started bringing guests their food to their table and this is a huge improvement. However, they are not doing this during breakfast, which I think is a huge mistake. Breakfast time is very busy at RF and this is just the time of day that food should be brought out to the guests to reduce the morning lines. I don't know why they aren't doing this at breakfast, but I only witnessed it at times other than breakfast when I was there.

How late do the CMs staff the downstairs concierge/guest services desk? We might stop by after a late night in the parks, if possible.

Also, where can I buy Disney gift cards after arrival? At the airport? In the mercantile?

This will be my boys third trip, but first time flying. I am nervous about getting through the airport with our double stroller. My one son also gets car sick, so I am praying it doesn't turn into plane sick. They still are talking about the hotel with the monorail ( we stayed contemporary last year). I have tried for years to get my mom to stay at the lodge. I had no idea having grand kids was all it would take! They love trains ( we play WDW Railroad), so I plan on taking them to the train room. We actually have no set plans on our first day, so we might check it out then. Started planning out their outfits yesterday, so I have a feeling they will realize very soon we are going on vacation. Although we just sold/bought a house, so they are familiar with crazy packing going on everywhere. We are spending 7 nights at WL and them 2 nights at POP. This is also the first trip we didn't get a park hopper, so my scheduling plans are different than the previous trips.

Another twin mom here--mine are 10 now, but I remember the double stroller travel days well. Are you flying alone with them? If so, get there crazy early so that you don't feel the slightest bit of time pressure getting bags checked and all of you through security. Then just eat/play in the terminal.

If you do have two people with you--and you're not flying Southwest w/out an assigned seat--have one person go on during the early boarding with all your stuff. The other person gets on last with the twins and their seats are all ready for them. While flying with kids too little to read, I did best by not bringing crayons--they roll to the floor too easily. We read lots of books, but the best plane toy was food. We did games with goldfish and m&m's --counting, sorting by color, re-sorting, making up fish stories, etc. I really dragged it out. We didn't have an ipad then, but I bet that is even better.

Do you have a bunk room? I went with my mom when the girls were 4. I slept in the top bunk, mom slept in the bottom and the twins shared the big bed. It worked out well.

Have a great trip!

We checked in last night. It's so beautiful! No signs of construction anywhere. Creek is flowing and waterfall is beautiful! We have 6th floor and can see the contemporary resort and the peak of Cinderella's castle from our room!

At MK today. Crowds not as bad as I expected. Rode BTMRR, Splash, pirates, jungle cruise, haunted mansion and Small World all before our 7 Dwarf Mine Train FP at 10:30!

It is hot!!! And humid!

Hi Kook!!!!!!:wave2:
Hi Everyone!!! I'm BAAAAAAck !!!!!!

First time posting on this new thread!!! Last time I was "here", I posted a trip report around 2/2-3. Yep, that long ago. It was about the KTTK Tour, Pirates and Pals Fireworks Cruise, Raglan Road dinner(table #82 is our favorite spot), and I forgot what else.:confused3
Never got around to posting about Behind The Seeds Tour, Hoop De Doo (table #13,directly center, right in front), Wild Afrika Trek (AMAZING!!), Victoria and Alberts (AMAZING again), Afternoon Tea at GF (WONDERFUL!!),breakfast at Boma(terrific!),dinner at Jiko (ask for the Cape Town Room and Server Marty),8am breakfasts at Cape May & Crystal Palace-(great food and character interaction)-(take bus to DHS and then boat over to Cape May) and our Flag Family experience, which I don't have words for, it was so GREAT!!!!!

DH & I got wrapped up in doing a DCL cruise (we're officially Gold-only took 14 years!!!!),right knee surgery for me, taking care of my Dad (will be 93 on 9/9), watching grandkids and then DH recently had an Ablation to his heart, for his recently diagnosed Afib, which turned out fine. Life happens........:upsidedow

But we're back and booked in to WL CL-checking in Sunday 11/9 and checking out Monday 11/17 -8 days!!!!!! :cheer2:
Can't wait to see Sam,Mike,Grace,Cameren,Loyda and so many others. DH & I decided that we have been doing so much on our last two trips to WDW, that on this trip, we were going to try to hang out, relax more at the Lodge....and pool:beach:.......then, uh-oh, heard about the pool renovations, so I guess we'll go over to the Springs Pool instead. We were actually going to go over to that pool anyway on this visit because it was always nearly deserted and I was intrigued by all those bubbles. It obviously won't be so empty this time, due to the main pool rehab, but that's okay too. Still intrigued by all those bubbles.........:scratchin
We so enjoy being at WL,it feels so welcoming, so like being "home", that a pool rehab won't dampen our spirits at all.
Looking forward to walking to Trails End for Breakfast........Lunch.......Dinner.
Last time we strolled the trail, a deer crossed a few feet in front of us and a pretty, red headed woodpecker was whaling away at a tree. Nice memories. At the corral, we watched 4 ponies play with each other in a field (very cute and funny), said hello to a few rather large horses in the stable and pushed the Calliope button a few times before leaving the stable. All this before lunch!!! We love how close Fort Wilderness is to WL. So many more options for fun so close by. In Nov., we'll be doing a carriage ride and I tried to sign up for archery, but so far, it doesn't seem to be offered during our stay.
Our only big disappointment so far - we're not deeply into the F & W Festival, but we did sign up for the tasting at Tokyo Dining last year, at the tail end of the Festival. It was the only event that wasn't sold out. It was one of the greatest meals/experiences we've had anywhere, anytime, ever. We were looking forward to it again this year, since we're coming in at the end again. But it's being offered 3 days before we arrive, so we're out of luck.
So glad to be back on track and heading to WL!!!:woohoo:

Thanks for checking in with us. Hot and humid, yes, but it's still better than hot and humid at home;). I hope the rest of your stay is magical.

You've been a busy beaver…

Did the ablation work? Are his AF symptoms gone now? It's nice having you back on the thread and I'll be sure to log your dates:thumbsup2

Thanks for all the fabulous tips! I never even thought about that with crayons, but now it makes perfect sense! We are flying with my husband, mom, and grand mom. 4 generations! We have two rows of three seats, so I figure once we get there we will see if the boys want to sit with me or if they will each want a window. I have a feeling they will each want a window since they love to see how things work. I am planning on bringing lots of snacks and lollipops. I was also thinking of getting pez dispensers. We do have an iPad which can entertain them for a little bit. Making up fish stories is a great idea! I think I will take index cards and put some pics on them to creat our own stories out of.

As for room, we went with two beds. We just got back from oc, md and they did great sharing a bed, so I figured I would save the bunk bed rooms for when they get a little older.

We have been dropping hints about going to disney world, but they haven't caught on yet. Last night we had mickey shape watermelon for dinner. We even watched some of the vacation planning video. At lunch we asked where they would want to go on vacation next and they said Disney, so they will definitely be excited. I even have their suitcase packed!

I stayed club level at wilderness lodge this week and was disappointed that the club area was closed before the parks were even closed. Was disappointing not to be able to grab a coke on our way back after closing mk.

:welcome: to the thread and the DIS, Nyltiak22!

The OFC lounge does close at 10. Some Club Levels have experimented with leaving beverages available 24/7, but most do close at 10. But, you can take all the beverages you'd like back to your room. Some like to leave them in the fridge so they can have them whenever they'd like. But, it would be more convenient to just leave the lounges open 24/7, but there wouldn't be anyone there to monitor the lounges between 10 PM and 6:30 AM.

How did you like your stay in general? Was this your first stay at WL?

It was my first visit at Wilderness Lodge. I guess we were just used to being able to pick up some drinks after getting back from the parks. We enjoyed the lodge...spent a lot of time at the pool. We weren't in the resort much other than that.

Hi Kook!!
LOVE THE BEAVER!!!!! :rotfl2: Where is that from??????:lmao:

After almost two weeks, DH's Ablation is still holding, but he knows it's possible he may have to have it done again some time. It was harder for him to get used to the diagnosis, than the procedure itself. He was very active, a lifeguard for over 50 years, a runner, swimmer... He can still be active, but needs to take it down a few notches, which requires a new mind set.......but he's working on it.......
Thank-you so very much for asking:flower3:

Have you been to WL recently? How is the gang? Any personnel changes?????

Oh, one more thing-I'm curious about one room. If you look at the "Bear Face full frontal "pic at the top of this page, it's the squared off balcony to the right, all on it's own. In February, when we had to stay in, I think,#7111 for two days, until 7127 was ready. I noticed that balcony right across from us. Never saw anyone on it the whole week. But can't figure out the room number. If anyone would know it, it would be you. Just curious.....

I will be staying there in a year and requested a Bear Face room. Hopefully, someone will post some view photos over the next few months. :goodvibes popcorn:: Are there any other views you might recommend? We have a CYV booked with bunk beds for 2 weeks. We were going to get CL, but opted out of that because we are traveling with my parents and my in-laws that wanted to be together but not pay the additional expense. None of us have stayed at WL before, so any advice would be appreciated. :)

How were they working this? pagers? Numbers on your table ? Finding you via your magic band?

Isn't it beautiful! Just checked in today and the stream is pristine! I do think that the geyser area needs a good scrubbing, so I think it will come along with the pool rehab, perhaps.

Thanks for the crowds info. I hope it holds for tomorrow. Did y'all get rain at MK today? The pool was closed from about 2:30 or so until maybe 5 due to Lightning. Seemed like a long time. I was wondering if they stop the boats too, but they opened the pool right as we were headed out.

How were they working this? pagers? Numbers on your table ? Finding you via your magic band?

For dine-in you get a number for your table. For take out you get a pager and there is a pickup window inside.

It seems like such a long trip from the airport, but we finally made it. We arrived at DME at 1:30 and probably got to the hotel around 2:30. Many people on our bus were coming to WL. We waited probably 20 minutes on the bus before departing. Then stopped at Poly and GF before WL (they continued to CR and BLT).

Arrival was fine. Lovely touch to have CMs meet you with iPads saying, "Welcome Home" and escorting you into checkin. Our CM wasn't terribly interested in conversation, but it was nice nonetheless. The checkin CM that he passed us to was lovely. We got our request (upper floor, lobby view). LOVE this location. More on that later, but the kids were thrilled with all the nooks, crannies, fireplaces, sitting areas and staircases in the lobby atrium. We take a different route to our room every time.

On to the room - nice towel animals. I love the new bed linens and bathroom. We dropped our carry-ons and went to RF.

Lunch was 2 kids pizza meals (they are flatbread, not the other Disney pizza) and that fantastic roast beef sandwich (roast beef, focaccia, caramelized onion, lettuce, blue cheese). Love the cucumber salad (sweet/dill pickle flavors).

Back up to the mercantile by way of the courtyard. I really would love to have an upper CYV one day. So lovely.

Mercantile - 3 kinds of WL coffee cups, a few cute woodland animal plush (including a wolf? and an adorable moccasin wearing Pluto, among others). Standard WL magnets and t-shirts. There is a baby Bambi that DD fell in love with. Decent selection in the grocery area. Greek yogurt is missing but they have it at RF. They do have fruit in the Mercantile. And 1 quart of milk is the same price as a soda from a CS restaurant.

For the person asking about wine, there is a 1/2 bottle at $11. Bottles are different labels starting from $13. I saw one that was $23. Red is on the shelves. White is in the cooler. They had probably 5 kinds of red. I didn't look at white.

After we dropped our groceries (still not DME!), we're off to the boats. Did I mention the pool was closed for storms. :(

First in line to the blue flag boat. Sharing with FW and CR in one route. They had one boat going WL to CR to FW and another WL to FW to CR at the same time. We took a round trip on the monorail and enjoyed the CR concourse before a good wait for a boat back to WL. The breeze and the sunset were fantastic after the storms blew away.

Back at WL, Trout Pass had a great margarita for $10. The kids didn't want marshmallows on the beach. They delayed the 6:45 start for the campfire because of the weather and were staying later to accommodate. We moved onto the playground and bare feet in the sand. Drawing hidden Mickeys, making friends and watching the boats and the water birds. One couple was camped out making an evening of it. SO peaceful down there.

Back to the room by way of Hidden Springs. That is one SMALL pool for a big resort during an upgrade. It was almost empty, but the kids wanted the slide, so . . .

Back at the room and it's 8pm. We landed 7 hours ago. Still no bags! So come prepared. Just as we were changing and on our way to guest services, there was a knock. They're here!!! So glad. The poor guy looked swamped. We had bathing suits and pjs, but I really wanted my stuff.

Night swimming! Woohooo! Girls loved the warm water and the slide. Great monitoring by the very active lifeguards. They rescued one kid who acted like he didn't need it. They are on the ball. Unfortunately kids being kids means the slide gets turned off on occasion, but they got it back going again.

We bailed out before EWP. :( The Fire Rock Geyser is in great form. It's loud and shooting way up in the air. Quite an improvement from our 2010 visit.

Back at RF, tomato basil flatbread and chicken nuggets. The kids meal is 4 nuggets. We did double fries and I shared the flatbread with 1 DD. To-go. It's pajama time.

Back at the room getting fed and pajamas. We got our south side lobby room, and boy that WCC hootin and hollerin is loud! They did settle down around 10, so it's ok, but be warned. Afterward the wonderful lobby music was audible in our room until just now (after midnight).

SO if you've read this far you get the great tidbit for today - at 9:45 we heard big booms. At first I thought Wishes. But then, remembering the time, I looked out the window. It's the FROZEN FIREWORKS from HS!!!! You can see them from the south side of the WL, probably only from the lobby rooms. Maybe from the woods or CY view, depending, but I think the Villas would obstruct. They are far in the distance through trees, but they are HUGE! It was a nice bit of pixie dust.

Notes on the lobby balconies - 5th and 6th floors are smaller than I remember having in a standard room on the north side. Also, all of the 4th floor on the south side of the lobby are enclosed balconies. Some with stone. They look pretty private, but the roof is right there and probably obstructs a view. We do have a view of the buses and driveway, but they aren't noisy. The bell from the breezeway is gone. Sad for us when we head to the buses, but nice when we want the quiet in our upstairs room.

ETA: I was mistaken We can still hear the lobby music. And there is a tiny loading area between bell services and the buses that seems to serve DME. Trucks pulling in now.

Thanks for reading. Pictures soon. I probably won't get to ask about construction until Tues.

I don't know how late the lobby concierge is there. The Club Level concierge is upstairs until 10, so it might be the same for the lobby concierge:confused3

You can buy the gift cards at the Mercantile and they are open until 11 everyday:

Hi Kook!!
LOVE THE BEAVER!!!!! :rotfl2: Where is that from??????:lmao:

He's in the lobby elevators on the handrail. My DD noticed all of the little critters today.

BlueFairy,

Wow, your trip sounds awesome so far! I'll be there in two weeks & your pictures are getting me so excited to be there!

I have a question, I had read somewhere that there are tarps/scaffolds around the walkways near the pool. I called the Disney vacations # who called guest services who said no, there is no construction/tarps /scaffolds near the pool/around the walkways, I just wanted to confirm this with you since you are there. ( They did tell me the lobby stream is closed because something broke and they have to fix it ) :

Yes, there are no more tarps and scaffolding, for now. All of the rock work and landscaping looks as it should.

No, the stream is not closed. It has been restarted and looks great, as does the waterfall.

Pool is scheduled to be walled off and closed late this month. I'm going to ask for an update Tues.

According to most you should be hitting the sweet spot if you arrive in the next couple of weeks or so.
