Kook I apologize for speaking about the pool closure, but I need something clarified. I am hearing reports of people calling the phone number on the letter that was mailed out and getting reduced rates/upgrades.

I know you had said we have to wait until we check in. Is this still the case or have you heard otherwise?

I was just looking at the room number map and noticed the Woods View rooms on the very end of the North Wing. They number x001 and x002.

Has anyone stayed in these rooms? I would love to hear thoughts and opinions.

Trying to decide what to "request" when 2015 packages are released.

Thanks!! :thumbsup2

While we have not stayed in these rooms, they come up from time to time on the board. They are definitely in the trees, so you won't have much view of anything in the distance. You are also very close to the boat dock, so you will be more likely to hear boat horns. While they aren't a bad location, they probably look better on paper than in person because of the dense trees in that area. Personally, we probably wouldn't choose to request that area because of the long walk down the hallway to everything else. When we were in the North Wing, we really liked being closer to the elevator which made it convenient to drop right down to Roaring Fork. :thumbsup2

Booked for our 1st stay at WL 8/25 - 9/1 and on free dining woohoo.
This Disney planning has not been easy, originally we were booked for an awesome deal at the Poly then we bought a Travel Trailer and decided on camping at Fort Wilderness and well it seemed like a good idea at the time but after a few vacations our 15month old didn't do well on long driving trips. And seeing it will take about 17hours driving we changed our minds and got cheap airfare and free dining and chose the Lodge after hearing great reviews of the place.
So now we are just counting down the days til we leave

Congratulations! We love WL! We camp in our RV for all of our other vacations, but getting to stay at such a nice resort at WDW is a real treat. We also like that we can walk or take the boat over to check out Fort Wilderness since it is so close. WL + Free Dining = a great vacation! :thumbsup2 Enjoy.

I bet you're right. The trees do look pretty dense and I didn't even think about the boat horns.

We really want the North Wing. I can't decide between the Lobby rooms and the Otter Pond views. Opening the door to that beautiful lobby would be awesome if the noise from Whispering Canyon isn't horrendous.

Thoughts?

I would just like to mention that I see a lot of posts here discussing making room requests and want to give everyone a word of caution. A request is granted as space and bookings allow and isn't guaranteed. We always make a room request, but they have been denied as many times as granted. Please don't get your heart set on just one specific area of a resort. All areas have their pros and cons, but the likelihood of everyone getting their exact preference just honestly isn't that high. Our first trip I was quite moody the first day because I didn't get just exactly that right view that I wanted. "I'm paying all this money and this is our first deluxe stay and I'm so disappointed!" I had to take a step back and remember that the resort is delightful and that's why we chose to be there. The view or walk to a room will most likely not make or break your trip.

We LOVE the lobby rooms. Ours have been on the South side, but we don't find the WCC noise to be a problem. We do request high floor, so perhaps that helps to not be directly above WCC if you are in the North wing. We also aren't often in the room in the early evenings when WCC noise is at its peak.

Here is a picture of the area that the North wing lobby rooms overlook.

As you can see, it is mainly a view of trees although they aren't right up against the building. It isn't bad, but might not be as exciting as the potential partial MK view you could get further down the wing.

I completely agree. Requests are exactly that, and can only be granted as availability permits. We have had a great time at WL without making any request, and have wound up with rooms that we would not have requested but came to love (and later request :confused3).

I've also said numerous times that there isn't a BAD room at WL. Even the rooms above the registration desk which have a roof view from the balcony side open up to that beautiful lobby. Every room has it's nuances that make it different, but they are all in a wonderful resort.

I like the reflection of the green mug :)

My favorite. :) I was headed for a mug refill and snapped the view pic for someone who had asked on the DIS.

Thanks GrandCalifornian I appreciate the info and the pics. I think I'm going to request northside lobby. :goodvibes

We were 'upgraded' to one of those rooms a few years ago, like maybe six or eight! We loved the room. The view is limited of the lake, but we loved the peaceful calm of the greenery and the trees. Granted, we were also three adults, no kids. I don't remember noticing the boat at all, but we were out of the room for most of each day. I've been hoping to be upgraded to one of those rooms every since. It is a haul to your room from the lobby, but it is very quiet. ::yes::

So I am trying to convince DH to add a couple days on to the front of our trip.... So we can maybe either fish an extra day or go to the 'other' park.
He and I are big Harry Potter fans and he has been wanting to go, and now that Diagon Alley is open.......maybe I can use it as a bribe

Just happy that we are going again though, so if he says no I will be ok with that. If he does say yes though, we would have to stay at a 3rd location because BC is not available.

Sorry if I am off topic for WL, but I feel like this is 'home' for me and where my friends are :)

Crossing my fingers for you! We wanted to go to Universal to check out the new HP stuff too but it was adding too much to our already over budget August trip. Yikes! Maybe next year! ;-)

My apologies for not posting photos as I had hoped yesterday. Mundane obligations went into overtime and then we had a power outage due to thunderstorms. I will try to multi-quote and post some photos this afternoon:flower3:

Yikes! The weather was bad here too.

No need to apologize as we all get busy :). I hope you weren't without power for too long.
