When we checked in on the 16th after the CM went through the spiel about the pool being closed and that we could use the villas pool or FW or Contemporary, I politely asked if they were offering any compensation. She replied that they would give us a $50/night room credit and BB tickets. We declined the tickets as we knew we wouldn't use them. I checked our room account the next day and the credit was there.

We were there last November 2013. We were given a comped upgrade to the grand Floridian but we declined because we love the wilderness Lodge.

Hello! Just paid off our trip. We are officially staying at The Wilderness Lodge Jan 31-Feb 8th. Could you add our dates? Thank you!!
Yippee! I'll make it more official by loggin' it.

I've stayed at the lodge four times this year January, May, July, and most recently in Ocotber, there has been scaffolding at various outer locations of the lodge for the entire year, so this has nothing to do with the pool.

I don't think it affected my experience one bit
ITA and for anyone who's worried, they take those rooms out of inventory.

The scaffolding has been up in differing spots before the pool construction was started.

When we were at WL in August , we got a personal tour of the entire resort from a really nice , long time WL cast member, but his name escapes me.
We didn't ask for a personal tour , but we are DVC members and were staying in one of the new studios over at the villas side and asked to see one of the 2 bedroom rooms if any were open .........for some reason, that turned into a 1+ hour tour of the Lodge and villas :goodvibes .

Anyway ............when we walked past some scaffolding that was up around on the right side of the lodge rooms going out the walkway from the lodge to the villas area I asked the CM what it was for .

He told me that they were checking and sealing up all the upper areas of the roof line, eve's and "attic" areas to prevent any critters from entering those spaces, and taking up residence.

Not sure if its true, but thats what we were told about the scaffolding.

Disappointed that the pool is not open yet .............we arrive on the 10th of December, and really hoping they are done with the pool construction by then !!!
A private tour sounds like so much fun.

Yea, I guess it would have been if we planned it, lol . We just wanted to see a 2bdrm villa quickly for future trips. Didnt want to be rude to the CM, so we just followed him around as he gave us a personal tour of the whole lodge, lol :rotfl: .
It was really nice, and we learned a lot of "hidden" stuff about the lodge ..........so we just rolled with it, and altered our plans that day a bit.

So ............any updates on the pool opening , or new pics ?

We will be there in about a week, and really hoping the pool will be open !

I am so excited about the pool. I haven't told my son about the splash pad yet because I don't want him to be disappointed if it isn't ready. I'm being optimistic and hoping it will be done though, because it looks awesome!

We'll be there in a week, so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping they can work their Disney magic between now and then.

I haven't heard anything new since the 12/3 opening . We are hoping too but not too upset because it's been a bit chilly. Hoping for the room credit .

If no one else provides pool updates today, I will update with pictures tomorrow morning shortly after we arrive.

Thank you! We arrive on Wednesday for one night only, but it is our first kid-free trip and we were really looking forward to relaxing by the pool *together* without the stress of having pre-swimmers to take turns keeping watch over the whole time!

You can still do that by the Villas pool.... Not many folks were in it while we were there just last week....

We checked in this morning.

We are upset that we upgraded to a courtyard view a couple weeks ago (paid extra) and now we are stuck with a construction view. No Woods View are available. The scaffolding is the worst part. There is nothing "Wilderness" about a giant metal structure.

We were given a $100 credit ($50 for the first two of five nights). Nice gesture but $100 of a $6,000 trip is a drop on the bucket. I may consider moving to Port Orleans and asking for a refund.

Ugh...that's really a shame.
Want to add that I would ask about a refund on the portion that the upgrade cost for sure.
Have you seen the pool yet? What's the situation there?

Sorry to hear about that. If they are only crediting you for two nights, does that mean they only expect the scaffolding to be up in that portion of the resort for just that time?

Our family is checking in to WL (Woods View) on the morning of 12/2 for 6 nights. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the 12/3 opening of the pool is still on schedule. While the scaffolding is a bummer, as long as the lobby still has its warm Christmas grandeur, as all my prior stays this time of year, then I'll be happy.

Silly question of the day.

We will be staying at WL next week. I know you can buy laundry soap from a vending machine near the laundry machines but does anyone know what brands are available?

DS has eczema, so I am wondering if I should bother packing his hypoallergenic baby laundry detergent. I'd rather not (travelling via airplane).

Any insight on laundry soap brands would be appreciated.
