Close to the parks or away from it all?

When choosing a hotel, do you look for Hotels near the parks (BWI,BC/YC,etc) or hotels away from the parks (OKW,WL,FW,etc)?

In addition, what do you spend more time doing: the parks or non-park activities(golf, spa, etc)?

We're there for the parks. We can golf and do other stuff anytime, anywhere. Last month we stayed at Dolphin which allowed us to walk to Epcot and MGM in addition to being a great hotel. That's the way we're going to go from now on, either staying at the 'Epcot Cluster' or one of the 'MK Monorail' resorts. If $$ dictated it, we'd gladly stay at the AllStars again rather than go off-site, but we'd rather be nearer the parks. In the last five trips we've never hit a water park, mini-golf (or the real thing) or anything else other than a day trip to Universal/IOA.

Great photo Bill from PA, and I love the caption. I must remember that one:teeth: :teeth:

Oh, I would much rather stay closer to parks. It is just so much more convenient!!

We are park commandos totally....we do them opening to closing...just my opinion

That's such an individual choice-in our case within the same family. DH wants to be at OKW, away, quiet, and he spends most of his time on vacation golfing. But then to DH, "vacation" and "golf" are interchangeable words. Me, I'd rather be close to the parks, that's one of the reasons I love BCV so much. Up and out the door to the theme parks. We've solved it by DH encouraging me to take 2 trips to WDW per year. On one trip, we go together, stay at OKW, he golfs and I go to the parks alone, then we meet up and do a few things toward the end of the day. On the other trip, I go solo, stay at BCV, and basically "live" in Epcot (I think next time I go, I'll go in the IG at 9:00, then just sit on a bench with a book to read and listen to the music).

I like to stay close to the parks, and I also like to split my stay so I can be in different resort areas. For instance I split my last stay between the Poly and the YC so I could be near both the MK and Epcot. When I'm in WDW I spend most of my time at the parks, but I also spend a good bit of time at my resort(s) and at Downtown Disney.

We've done both, when we used to go in August,(usually longer trips) we would stay at CBR, do the parks in the a.m., pool mini-golf or water park in the afternoon and then back to a park for the evening. The last few years, our trips have been in Jan. Because swimming is hit or miss, these trips have been a little shorter and we prefer the Epcot resorts. It's nice to be able to walk to Epcot and MGM, plus that time of year Epcot is the only evening park. Either way you can't go wrong!

Thanks, chi-mom,

This is my daughters and I enjoying one of my favorite WDW 'rides'!
