Our next trip we will be travelling with my bil & his family. His ds & dd are both legally blind without their glasses on. To be honest I'm not sure how well their sight is with their glasses, but I know they function really well. I do know however that whenever they have gone to see a play or theatre show they make arrangements to sit closer to the stage.

I'm thinking rides will be no problem, but are there arrangements at WDW shows to have close seating for visually impaired? Would they need to bring some sort of documentation?

Thanks for any info! (This will be their first visit, we're excited to take them and I'm just trying to cover all the bases before we get there!!)

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Post #6 deals with the Guest Assistance Card which is what they will need. This is a card that is designed to let attractions Cast Members be aware of special needs. The Post give the requirements, as well as how to get them.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

Hey melk, I am also visually impaired and visited WDW for the first time last year. This has been my experience with the shows I attended.
Fantasmic-used the roped off wheelchair access to bypass the crowd waiting to be seated for the second showing. I was escorted down to the front by a CM.
Lion King-waited in a separate area from the general crowd and was escorted to my second row seat before the general crowd entered.
Nemo-escorted to the first few rows from the stage. I had arrived just 5 minutes before showtime fully expecting to be seated in the back but they still had empty seating up front reserved.
Beauty & Beast-escorted to first few rows. This section was roped off so even with the theater already filling up, I was still able to get a good seat.
Indiana Jones-same MO as Beauty.

I use a red/white cane sometimes and this was nice because a CM would just look at it and point me in the right direction. Other times, I just pulled out my GAC and asked a CM where to go. All CM's were VERY accommodating.

Have a fun trip!

Shock13, thanks for the detailed information. It helps put my mind at ease that they will be able to enjoy the shows. I would hate for them to be frustrated at not being able to see.
