So I had another one of those difficult evenings with my mother. For those who don't know, she's 81 and has Alzheimers.
She didn't want to take her pills; didn't want to take her insulin shot- but I got her to do it and went in to get her bed ready to get her down, and while I was doing it, she screamed at our two dogs.
Not a huge deal but they aren't used to that, so they tore out the doggie door and into the back yard.
I didn't think much of it; we have a fenced 2 acre back yard and they needed to go out one more time anyway, so I got mom to bed and then went call them to come in. They wouldn't come- I couldn't see them but it was dark and we have a bunch of trees and a shed and again, no big deal.
So I left the door open, made myself a drink, made sure mom was still in bed, came here to take a look at the CB, had a smoke, and 15 minutes or so went to see if they'd come in on their own.
I walked into the living room, and smelled it right away- skunk. Not overpowering, but definite.
I turned on the patio light, and there he was.
I backed off, went and put some shorts on, and grabbed a flashlight and a .22 pistol, and went back out. I am an animal lover and never shot anything in my life, but Pepe Lepew was going to skunk heaven rather than me dealing with my dogs getting sprayed.
Luckily, by the time I got back out, skunk was gone, and my pups were hanging at the back fence and came in with no problems.
And now, I can finally enjoy my drink.
