There were lots of pros and cons in my decision today to add on 30 points at BLT for $3360.00.

PROS:

Excitement about this new DVC resort and its monorail location.

No availability after Jan 15 for small add ons at BLT. (At least until they change it again).

Probably the only way to experience that new resort smell within a reasonable time is to have the eleven month window.

Low member fees. Points can be used at my home resort, OKW, at seven months.

Contract lasts until 2060. (Much longer than I will last.)

This purchase is good for DVC, my disney stock, and the economy.

CONS:

Very expensive points. No discount on small add ons.

Concerns about the economy and my portfolio.

Lack of land and "nature" around this resort.

It's too late to influence my decision, but I would enjoy hearing other pros and cons. :teacher:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I knew you would come over to the "dark" side and join us other BLT owners....
(That is a pro ;) )
No MFs until Sept 1st when the resort opens.
It may give you better rate of return than your other investments (in terms of having fun, anyway) ...

I can't think of any cons right now.

CON: Waiting for the elevator when you're on the 10th floor and fireworks start in 10 minutes.

PRO: Being "invited" to the top floor lounge to watch them anyway. What's 6 floors of stairs?

I'm hovering on the edge of the dark side too. 55 points, if only I could just part with my cash reserves. Damn economy. Gives every financial decision a secondguess.

I figure by Christmas I absolutely need to make a decision.

30 BLT points is exactly what we're kicking around, too. Maybe 40. I'd love to be able to walk to the Magic Kingdom or take the monorail for at least 5 nights every other year. And to think a few months ago I was thinking of selling all my DVC and just staying at Marriott - :rotfl:

The top floor lounge. Thanks for reminding me of that, BroganMc!

No member fees until Sept. Nice, dcfromva! :thumbsup2

I'm a serious saver::butterfly

But What a joke :lmao:

The stock market ate 100% of my profit for the last 10 years:sick:

And then ate 25% of my principal:sick:

I worked and saved for the past 12 years for this?:confused3

So what the heck, I bought 160 points at the BLT. At least I got 3 nights free at the BW (during peak season:cool1: ) a tile with my name on and another 5-10 nights a year at my favorite place.

At least I get to experience a little magic:wizard:

party: CONGRATS !!!!

Pros outweigh the cons so it's all good :thumbsup2

Dare I bring this up  ? BLT's pool may be exclusively for guests staying at BLT.....

Will be watching this thread as we too are considering a BLT add-on before Jan 15 (like you as of now all our points are OKW).

Best wishes :wizard:

Thanks for helping the economy... Three consecutive days of the DOW being in the black! This clearly is linked to your add-on.:thumbsup2

Thanks!
Dennis-

This thead may even prove to be more helpful to the economy. DH says if we're at all thinking about buying BLT, this is the time to do so. You've given us ideas for serious consideration. I want to see where we are in January, we may have very last minute changes of hearts.

Question - are there any incentives AT ALL for buying less than 100 pts. at BLT (other than of course beating the increase for the minimum buy-in)? No matching developer points? Nothing?:confused3

There was NO incentive of any kind. I even begged for a few fast passes and got nothing. $112/pt.

Maybe it is reasuring that the chance that you are missing some cruise, travel show, one time only, etc. incentive is slight, since incentives always seem to start at the higher point levels. :goodvibes

Yet another reason for me to keep procrastinating the purchase of only 50 pts!!:goodvibes

Congratulations!:thumbsup2

Congratulations!!!

I brought too - two 60 points contract - and got the extra benefits.

a 60 point is all that is needed to stay 5 nights in Dec in standard studio.

nice to see others thinking that way.

was only going to buy 60 points - but then got to thinking will sell my OKW points - just not immediately (they are on the market). So those points were for the 2-bedroom - all my others are studios. Someday might actually want a 2-bedroom again - you know special event. So this way can do a 2-bedroom every other year if I feel the need... until then STUDIOS!!!
