Do the parks close at 6:00 in Dec.? I am going to be there Dec. 18-22.. I am wondering what to plan if they are closing that early? It may be too cool outside to plan on spending evenings at the pool.. are there inexpensive things to do near by?

And this can all be done at Citywalk. It's alot of fun and at night it can be a lively area.

Yes, the parks will be closing early in Dec. Though the time you're going, the hours should start increasing.

Come back to your room, get cleaned up, go to happy hour at city walk, and have a nice dinner.

It's kinda funny. Ski slopes close down around 4pm, and noone complains. The people do "apres" (after) ski, which basically means go get drunk and hang out.

Maybe the parks need a new term for happy hour, hanging at the hotel pool, and a nice dinner.

By night time, my feet are so tired, I'm happy to hang in my room and cable surf.

There is the movie theater at city walk.

That’s not really the same thing. Going skiing is completely different from going to a theme park. Skiing is far more rigorous, if you put any effort into it at all. It’s also far more dangerous to be on the slopes when you’re tired than it is to be walking around a theme park, sitting in a seat watching a show, or riding a ride controlled by computers. We have very small ski resorts in my area, but they’re lit at night and stay open until 10 or 11pm so it’s easy to overdo it. One time last winter I was skiing at a local resort with a friend. We’d been on the slopes about 7 hours. She and I were skiing pretty slowly at the time, crisscrossing each other’s paths and talking while we skied. We actually skied right into each other. It’s not like we were skiing fast (fortunately). If we’d been at all alert, we could have avoided the collision. That was when we realized it was time to go home. I hadn’t even realized how tired I was until the moment I was sitting there in the snow going, “I can’t believe we did that…”. :)

On the other hand, I recently spent 13 hours straight at Cedar Point and, while my feet were slightly sore, I could have kept going longer and I didn’t feel at all drowsy during the two hour drive home. I even stayed up another hour or two past that once I got home.

I plan to go to Orlando in September 2004 and, while I’m not devastated by the hour changes if they’re still in effect then, I am disappointed by them. Since I have pretty full days planned at Disney before I move over to Universal, I expect I very well might enjoy the more relaxed pace that Universal’s hours will force me to take. But if I just wanted to spend my vacation relaxing at a hotel, going shopping, or watching movies, I would have picked a different (and probably cheaper) destination. If I wanted to spend hours getting drunk and hanging around drunk people desperately trying to pick somebody up for the night, I’d check myself into an insane asylum and ask them to put me in a nice, padded room before I hurt myself.

I have absolutely no doubt that I’ll have plenty of fun even with the shorter hours. I don’t get bored easily and I’ll probably swim at the hotel, read, or maybe even indulge myself by watching TV or a movie since that’s something I rarely waste time doing at home. But if I were given my choice, I’d rather have more time at the parks.
