Clogged drain, I think below the garbage disposal.

I burned out two GDs with potato peels. Those were in rental homes, now that I have my own house they always go in the trash!

I always run water too but I thought maybe all these people that are having potato peels breaking their disposal maybe were not!!

Also, cucumber peels and large amount of pasta - they will do the same thing. Been there - and once was on Xmas eve while doing the prep work for Xmas dinner. Not a pretty sight.

Ya know...every time someone posts that their disposal does this I just sit here with my mouth open saying "WTH????" I just do not get it. I have never had a problem with anything and have known anyone (in real life) to have ever had this problem. One of lifes mysteries I guess. And now the pasta???? We always cook way too much spaghetti and always throw it down the disposal and it chews it right up...and I feel pretty sure that it is not a very expensive disposal considering how everything else in this house is falling apart!! LOL!!!

My disposal was totally unaffected. The tiny pieces of potato peels were all clumped together and stuck in the pipe that leads to the trap. The water was 4 inches deep in the sink and when I losened the pipe, it all squirted out at me but I still had to dig out the potatos with a knife. YUMMY!

OK... So MAYBE when everyone writes about potato peels "breaking" their disposal this is what they mean?? When I think of something BREAKING the disposal then you would have to buy a new one and have it installed. Maybe most everyone is not using the right terminology!!???!!!
So your disposal is chopping the potatoes up like it is supposed to but the drain is not working correctly? Is this what is happening to everyone else? If this is the case it makes much more sense even though my drain still has never done this either but at least it makes sense for the drain to get clogged instead of a potato peel BREAKING a disposal!!!! LOL!!!!

Pasta of any kind, turns to glue. It'll stop up pipes big-time. :crazy2:

I think we just have two different issues going on at the same time. The disposal can't chop the peels, and they end up in the drain whole, which causes the clog.

Not running water while running a disposal is a big no-no. Sort of akin to running a concrete saw, without water. The noise alone is a dead give-away!
