Has anyone had any experience with Queen Elisabeth or Royal Gold? We've had these climbers for about three years now.

The Queen Elisabeth just get all wild and leafless, great big canes though. I cut them way back in February. They bushed out and had a multitude of blooms. They've never had more that a couple before.

The Royal Gold, while having a number of blooms, is so spindly that you wonder if it will last the year. I cut it back also in February because it had gotten so ugly.

So, what was your bushes like? Should I just dig them up and replace them? Or they worth keeping? The Queen Elisabeth's have won a short reprieve. I cut them back again after all the blooms were gone, they don't seem to continuously bloom like some I have. The Royal Gold are most likely on their way out.

Welcome , Kirby! :flower3:

Unfortunately for you, I am death to roses! I recently cut down my one climber, a victim of black spot and a harsh winter. I have a new one to plant, and try again. :)

Your Queen Elisabeth sounds as if it's under control now. I read somewhere that it's known for putting more energy into growth over flowering, but you've rectified that situation. :)

Does you Royal Gold have any spots on it, or little bugs? Are the leaves eaten, or is it just the spindliness that's the issue? If you've had it for 3 years and it still looks very feeble, I'd probably replace it. I tend to get a little impatient with my plants! ;)

Do you have any other roses besides these two?

Hopefully one of our rose savy Buds will be able to give you some advice! :)

The Royal Gold is just very spindly and fragile looking. Not pretty at all. Even though the roses are gorgeous it's probably on its way out.

I have two Don Juans that I absolutely love. I think that they are climbers also but we always cut them back. They've never been ones to grow a lot.

I have Tropicana too. The fragrance is wonderful!

Joseph's Coat is another one. It's taken about three years for it to get settled. I was beginning to give up on it also. There were so many blooms in so many different shades two weeks ago that the bush actually looked like it was on fire.

And I have a bush that I don't know what it is. It was given to us and the tag was missing. It's a dark pink. The buds are enormous and the blooms are amazing. But they tend to fade out in a lot of sun. It too took about three years to get going. I'm thinking about moving it to the east side of the house where it will only get the morning sun.

The Don Juans and the Tropicana had no trouble getting started. They are great rose bushes to have.

It sounds like the majority of your roses are doing great!! :) I'm thinking that you, could be a big help to us!!! :sunny:

I know that a couple of our other Buds have the Joseph's Coat roses, maybe Deb and Mary....I'm not completely sure...:scratchin. A friend of mine has one, and they really are unique!! :)

Do you have a digital camera? We love pics!! ::yes::

Oh, btw, I agree with you about YB (in your tag..lol) ;)

No digital camera. As far as being help, anything I know (which is not much) has been learned through trial and error.

Me :bounce: Me :bounce:, I'm the bud with the climbing Joseph's Coat. And I am happy to report it looks fabulous. This is one tough bugger. It has survived being drowned in spilled car oil, transplanted a couple of times, and an unfortunate accident with the clippers :p. It is completely covered with little buds, as no black spot and the aphids don't stand a chance with me. Actually, all of my roses, with the exception of Disneyland, look really good this year. I'll be sure to take pictures when they bloom.

I'd love to see your pictures, especially the one of the climbing Joseph's Coat.
