Thinking about moving to the area. Anyone know about the schools? best towns to live in ? etc. thanks guys. The biggest perk is being closer to the Albany airport:smooth:

WOW!! I had moved to this area of NY about 10 years ago because my husband( who was my fiance then) was there and I left my job in NH to go live there with him. We only ended up staying about 1 year there before deciding to return to NH. It was a nice area, I believe the town was getting really built up at that point. I understand the schools are pretty good, but its been so long since I lived there and we didn't have kids at that time so schools were not something that I was too into at the time. We moved back to NH because our families were here and I was a bit home sick. I thought it was a little boring there. I missed being close to Boston, the beach and my family.

I may be a bad one to ask, because we live in the rural side of Saratoga County, but I'm very familiar with Clifton Park. We consider it the ultimate suburbs. Not bad if you like that sort of thing. School is huge, a "better" one in the area. If you like developments, you'll be fine. I'd be happy to tell you more if you have specific questions. Laura

BuzznBell'smom-i live in saratoga also ( the northern part of the county) and i gotta agree Clifton park is the ultimate suburb

Huge is definatly the word for the school but it does have a pretty good record compared to some others in the area

COCOWUM-- why Clifton Park specifically?? there are several area's surronding that are not as crowed with short commute times if it's work related.. Of course you may like the crowded thing sorry i forget that not everyone likes the country living

any questions on specifics feel free to ask
i'd be glad to help

Grew up in Clifton Park, educated in Shenedahowa Schools until HS when I transferred to a private school. My siblings all graduated from Shen though. It's an excellent school district. Lot's to offer, wide variety of courses including AP courses.

It was a good place to grow up. It was much less congested then, but my mom and two of my brothers still live there. The Van Patten built homes in the older sections of Cliton Knolls and Country Knolls are regarded as being very well constructed (my mom owned hers for 30 some years and it was still very solid when she sold it).

Cliton Park is convenient to everything you could want. Shopping, the Arts, places of worship, sporting events, you name it.

Feel free to ask if you ahve any more specific questions about it, I'll try to help.

we just moved into the area last sept. and originally planned on living in clifton park, but after lots of househunting and getting to know the areas, we chose saratoga. love it here!!!!

Nice to see so many (current or former) Saratoga country residents saying hi. :wave2:

I've lived my whole life except college (which was in Albany) in Saratoga Country, just 4 years ago we made the "big move" ;) from South Glens Falls to Wilton. Personally, I wouldn't live much farther south as it gets to feel too "crowded" to me.

But if you're used to a more urban area, you'll like Clifton Park. The drive-time to Albany is not too bad, depending on rush-hour patterns of course, and you're very close to all the fun in Saratoga and the Adirondacks.

About schools, I can only echo what the others have said. Shen is big, but they've been big long enough to handle it well, IYKWIM. Just this Jan. I took my daughter from the Saratoga public school system, which is also rapidly growing. She's much more comfortable in the small Catholic school, and my son will start kdg. there in the fall.

I'll be glad to try to help with any other questions.

kids

I saw this thread and got the CHILLS!

My DH works for a small company in Clifton Park. He has a home office and goes up there about once a week and stays overnight. We came so close to moving there last year that we already had a deposit on a lot and house plans picked out. I got cold feet and decided I couldn't leave my family, friends, and job. Some days I totally regret it. Clifton Park was nice, but we preferred Saratoga Springs and that is where our lot was. DH drove up there a few weeks ago and said somebody else was building a house on "our" lot. :(

As always you guys are great thanks for all the replies
Kaylajr- My DH might be getting a job in Scotia NY and I was asking about the area schools and a few friends mentioned Clifton park as being the "best" in the area. I was also told Burnt hills were good as well. We haven't decided where to buy a house yet. My DD has been in a tiny catholic school since kindergarten but many times we've felt so limited in options. We put her in Catholic school because our public schools weren't very good. She is very outgoing so I don't think she'll have a problem adjusting to a new school but maybe one so big might be overwhelming. We don't mind crowded area's at all! As long as it's safe. We have been living in Vermont for 6 years now and we feel like it's the middle of nowhere;)

Clifton Park is VERY safe.

Although they do'nt have their own police force (helps keep taxes down) the NY State Troopers have a large sation and a substation right there, so there is plenty of protection from them. Saratoga County Sherrifs are also rather visiable.

cocowum-
there is a very good small catholic school in the area it is in Saratoga if you think your DD would be more comfortable in familiar surrondings
we have seriously considered putting our dd's there instead of the large saratoga public systemthat they are in now

Scotia is a nice place i lived there for years
my Dad's family is from there and my cousin still lives there

so any questions you may have ask away if i don't know the answer i'm sure i can find out from some one in the family

i think it's great another diser might be moving to the area
i never knew there were so many here we should all do a dis board meet someday

cocowum you can private message me and i 'll give you a good email to use if you want more info:D

There was one planned about 2 years ago, it never came off but it's how I met one of my best friends. :wave2: to Michelle.

It is nice to know there are so many DIS fans around, maybe we could at least come up with a secret handshake.
