MM needs some advice. He needs to get a new cell phone and new service plan, but he doesn't want to pay a ridiculous amount every month since he doesn't like or even use his current cell more than a couple times a week. (You know the topic at hand is serious when he starts speaking in third-person. :rolleyes1) Some people I've asked said it's impossible to get an "unlimited text and calls" package for under $100/month.....while other people say it's quite easy to get all that and unlimited internet for under $60. He'd like all 3 of those (plus a really nice kick-butt phone) but he wants to hear your opinion about your service.

Go ahead, caller............I'm listening. :surfweb:

We have 3 lines on one AT&T account. The first line is $60. To add unlimited text I think is $15, and unlimited data (e-mail, internet) is $30, so yeah, about $100. DH has 200 texts per month for $5 because he doesn't text THAT much, but the per text charges were exceeding $5 per month. I add text to mine for WDW, then I take it off when we get home. We blocked texting to and from DS's phone because he doesn't need that distraction.

I know the Smart phones require you to get a data plan of at least $15 per month with AT&T.

at&t no longer offers unlimited data. It's 200 mb or 2 gigs... I think.

We have AT&T iphones with unlimted data, but limited to 450 texts. Which by they way we have never fully used up. Our minutes are 450 daytime, unlimited night weekends and AT&T user to AT&T user is of course free, so Steven and I don't use up anything calling each other. Our bills average about 94 a month.

That's right I forgot about that. We've been users for a while, so our plan won't change luckily. But 2g a month is a LOT to use up unless you're constantly streaming live videos all day and have your emails and sites set up to constantly push information every 15 minutes.

I hardly ever use my iPhone to actually make phone calls. I also don't text much, but I've started texting more. I have the basic AT&T plan which is 450 minutes. I added 200 txt/mo for $5. I'm locked in to the unlimited data for $30/mo. My bill is around $75/mo, but that's with a discount through work. For unlimited txt plus a data plan I'd say around $100 seems right, although I haven't checked out plans in a while.

Do you have a company like Metro PCS where you live? The service isn't the best, but it's ok for what you pay for. I believe it's $40 a month for unlimited everything here.

My sister had something thru (I think) Boost or Virgin Mobile for unlimited text, minutes and internet for $60 a month. It's a pay as you go plan.

Also look at Sprint, I believe they have a nice budget unlimited plan.

Potentially also, depending on where you live, Vz has an ok-priced unlimited plan.

My dear Monorail Man,

I am a recent convert to the iPhone. I got the 3GS just before the 4 came out (and I laughed when, a week later, the antenna issue surfaced. I laughed :lmao:).

At the time I bought, I didn't think I would use it half as much as I actually do. I'm in at least one of the apps each day, mostly the ones that were preloaded. I have the 200MB plan at $15/month and that fits me fine. The most I've ever used of that was on my last Disney trip in October, for checking and entering wait times.

Luv 'n' Stuff,
Bob

Rather than suggestions (since I live in Canada and anything I know would be useless), I have a question:

If you are only going to use it a couple of times a week, why do you need unlimited everything?

(Thanks everyone for reminding me why I've stuck with a basic home phone and ignored the fact that I'm just about the only person without a cell phone. I can't imagine spending more than $1000/yr for a phone! The rising cost of pay phones is minuscule in comparison.)
