Florida will be running a Click-it or Ticket Campaign statewide May 26 - June 4, 2004! :earseek:

Which means - you had better have your seatbelt on if you get pulled over or it's an additional expensive ticket for each person without a seatbelt including children. ::yes::

I am not sure if they will pull you over for not having a seatbelt on but I thought I should warn you guys anyway!

Have a safe and ticketless trip everyone!

:earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsboy:

I think this is a nationwide campaign. I also think they should triple the fine for the parents with children unbuckled. I hate pulling behind a car at a stop light to see a 3 year old standing on the back seat looking out the back window at me. What are these parents thinking?

I can't believe anyone would ride in a car without a seatbelt! Sure, you may be a good driver, but you can't control the actions of everybody else on the road. Buckle up people!

Sure seems silly to end that one on June 4th. Should be part of their routine to do that.

I totally agree with all of the posts. We take too much for granted while driving. You never know what can or will happen.

Another example of government interference in our lives...& everybody just loves it!

By the way, I always wear my seatbelt, & my kids are always in car seats... IT'S JUST NONE OF THE POLICE'S THE GOVERNMENT'S OR ANYBODY ELSES BUSINESS!

I'm not trying to start a debate nor am I trying to flame anyone.

I believe that the intent of the seat belt law is not so much an interference from the government as an attempt to save money. With the staggeringly high number of traffic accidents that happen and the ease of decreasing the chances of having a major injury by just snapping a buckle, the government is encouraging people to do so. I do not believe that the government necessarily is out for our best interests, but think about the cost for healthcare for these people that have been in accidents. People complain about the rapidly escalating cost of healthcare all the time. It wouldn't take too many car accidents without health insurance to really begin to make a dent in the governments ol' pocketbook.

Now, having said that, I can not believe that ANYONE would intentionally choose to put their life in jeopardy, let alone their own child's life, because they were too stupid or lazy to snap on a seat belt.

Whether you believe that it is government interference or not, there is really no debate about it being the safe and smart thing to do.

Actually, they are not encouraging, they are mandating it, with financial penalties.

Never debated the safety, as I buckle (never did until my 1st little girl was born 8 & 1/2 years ago) & know it is safer to do so...but it is most certainly government overstepping its boundaries.

Until they have mandatory medical insurance for the idiots that won't buckle up I wish they would do this year round. It is saving my tax dollars on medical bills and I cringe everytime I see a little kid standing on the seat of a car that is driving down the road. Some people need to be ticketed because they have no common sence.

1. not up to the government to mandate or penalize people common sense or the lack thereof.

2. not up to the government to be in the healthcare/insurance business.

We need to read & understand our constitution, people.

Not wanting really to debate, but it seems you are against even the government mandating seat belfs for minors. If I am wrong correct me. I definately don't think the government is out of bounds to mandate that minor be restrained since it would not necessarily be the minors fault if they were killed in the accident due to their parent's stupidity. I think in this case the govenment has an obligation to protect the children for they are not responsible for their actions. As for adults I think it should be optional, but if you are hurt in an accident you lose all rights to sue for medical damages even if the accident was some one elses fault. Since the law is in place the way it is currently I like the idea of stopping people for not wearing the belts and wish it would happen as a primary offense in the case of children not just as a secondary to getting pulled over for something else.

You are not wrong:) .

This would belong on the debate board - not transportation. To the OP thanks for the information.
