Just got back from our vacation in Cleveland last night, and I have to say...Cleveland Rocks! Our itinerary included:Cleveland Zoo and Rainforest, Pro Football Hall of Fame, Amish Country, Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center, A Cleveland Indians game, Six Flags Worlds of Adventure and Cedar Point!
Oh yeah, for those who helped with my Quaker Steak N Oil directions...we loved the place! This is definitely a city to see again! :D

did you spend any time in the rubber city

lol, its inbetween cleveland and canton, better known as akron

*sings* "Cleveland rocks! Cleveland Rocks! OHIO!!!"

sorry...couldn't help myself :)

Unfortunately, the only part of Akron we saw was from RT77 driving back from Canton. It was the day of the blackout...so we didn't venture far from the highway.

Glad you enjoyed your trip to the North Coast. We should have had you over for a cookout during the blackout. Our house was one of the few in NE Ohio that didn't lose power. I hope you didn't hit Quaker Steak on Wednesday night. That's bike night and you can't get near the place. Where did you go in Amish country?

I'm glad you had a great time in Cleveland. Its been awhile since I have been to the Rainforest at the zoo. I should get up there again sometime.
Too bad you didnt get to take a drive through Akron. You could have seen the giant airdock where they built large blimps many many many years ago. Its so big they say it rains in there the legend has it...or the famous soap box derby downs...or you could have slept in an old grain silo at Quaker Square :)...or walked were early settlers ventured on canal towpath trail in the Cuyahoga National Park.
Well I guess you'll have just have to come back sometime :)
In anycase I'm glad you had a great time here in Northeast Ohio.

I had no idea that Cleveland had so much to see. Why don't they advertise? All we seem to see are ads for New Mexico, West Virginia and South Dakota for some reason.

And now I have that song on my mind...

We hit the Quaker Steak in Sharon on Tues. They were having an all you can eat wing buffet! Love those "Garlic" and "Louisiana" flavored the best! In Amish country, we went to Wilmot to see the Cuckoo Clock and ate at Alpa-Alpine. We didn't experience problems with the blackout because we went to Six Flags(they never lost electricity). I found Worlds of Adventure to be alot nicer than Jersey's Great Adventure. Cleaner, friendly and more to do!
Shutterbug, there was too much to do without even leaving Cleveland. The only disappointment was Cooper'stown! Food wasn't too good! DH bought a tee there though!:D
I'd like to venture back and add Kings Island to the mix!

Thanks for the nice comments about our city, AC. We moved away in the 80's and we couldn't wait to get back. There is a lot of stuff to do around here....hmmm...how come I can't ever seem to get to do it?

Next time you come, we have to have a DIS meet at Quaker Steak and Lube!

Glad you had such a nice time! :)
I agree, Cleveland does ROCK! :teeth:

A QS&L DIS Meet sounds like a great idea! :teeth:

So great to see a nice word or two about my hometown. Cleveland has gotten such a bad rap for so many years, it's a shame! Just don't tell too many people, then it'll get crowded like most other vacation spots :p

Glad you had a great time! :) :) :)

So, Cooper'sTown's not very good, eh? Well, I can mark that off my pre-game eateries list now. ;) That spot has had a hard time keeping any restaurant since back in the 90's, when it used to be a very nice restaurant called The Taverne of Richfield. I think it's been like 4 or 5 different restaurants in the past 5 years now.

You picked the right amusement park to visit on Thursday. My lunch buddy was at Six Flags the same day as you and said that he was clueless that anything so major at the blackout was going on since everything there was fine. Cedar Point didn't fare as well.

We've been to Wilmont a bunch of times (since it's just down the road from where DW Sue grew up), but I've never been to Alpine Alpa to see the clock.

Sorry to hear that Cooperstown is a disappointment. Like Steve, I'll take it off my "must do" list. Maybe next year's Memorial Day picnic might have to focus on some of the fun things to see and do in NE Ohio. I think I've had enough Cedar Point. :)

Speaking of Cedar Point, we stayed at Breakers...so we could enter the park 1 hour early. We tried to get on line for Dragster, but by 9:15, the line was already 1 1/2 hour long-with the expectation that it would open at 10:00(which it didn't). It seemed like by 9:15-9:30, there were already 10,000-20,000 in the park. I can't believe that many people were staying at a Cedar Point Resort. It almost defeated the purpose of paying the extra $. Anyone have any comments about this?

You can also get early entry into the parks by purchasing the "Joe Cool" option on a season pass. I would venture to guess that LOTS of people did that this year with high hopes of getting on the Dragster. Perhaps they'll have it working better next year.

I knew I shouldn't have read this thread...now I have that STUPID song on my mind!!!!!

My Physical Therapist must think Cleveland rocks, too because he canceled my appt for today because he's going to Cleveland!! :)

Hey! Sounds like a great getaway. Glad you had a good time and glad to see you back on the DIS.

I have a simple Garlic Wing that I fix on the grill. Put the wings in a foil pan sprayed with nonstick, allow them to cook, stiring from time to time. Melt some butter and garlic in a sauce dish in the Microwave. When the wings are 20-30 minutes from done, drizzle on the butter. 5-10 minures later stir and repat the butter. Continue until done like you want them. Easy cleanup as its pan to table to trash. I do 5-10 pounds at a crack. even good as left overs.
