I've stayed here Clearwater Beach Marriott Suites on Sand Key and loved it. Nice pool, right across the street from the beach and a wonderful restaurant called Columbia right next door.

Hi,,, Dont know if this would help or not,,, But last May we stayed at the Tradewinds Island Grande in St.Pete's,, It was nice. Very kid oriented! My girls liked it alot... And still talk about the slide,, they have on the beach..It is alos right on the beach..

I would recommend sites off of clearwater beach. The construction going on now might hinder your enjoyment of the beach area and the traffic is horrible. I would recommend North redington beach, you can choose the DoubleTree or they do have condos in the area right on the beach, Ram Sea is one. Ask me a question and I can surely find out the answer for you. The person mentioned Marriott, instead the Sheraton Sand Key is right on the beach, very relaxing hotel and beach. All the areas down the beach are Sand Key, Treasure island, Redington beach, Indian Rocks beach, Madeira Beach, St. petersburg beach (very large area).

Not sure if you're comfortable doing this or not, but in 04 when we went to Clearwater before going to Disney we went w/o hotel reservations. We stopped at the (tiny) visitors center and talked to the fabulous ladies who were working there. We found a postcard brochure for one of the beachfront hotels (Marriot? I'd have to dig out the papers, it was beachfront, ha da mediocre IHOP attached to it and across from a minigolf). The price for a King Suite with the postcard was $49/night. The catch was you had to be a walk in with no prior reservations. It was great! The room was clean, had a patio with access to the beach since we were ground floor, the room had a king bed and a double murphey bed, a chair & table, a fridge, a desk, high speed access, decent sized bathroom, we had plenty of room for me (7mo pg), dh, dd6 and dd8mo in the pack n play. The pool was small, but overlooked the beach, and frankly we spent more time at the beach than in the pool, and the pool bar had delicious smoothies. The beach was great, it's on a bay so calmer than the gulf and when the tide was out and my dh and my then 6 yo went out to dh's waist they were roughly a football feilds length out.

I don't know if the fates were with us, but we were only going to be there for 2 nights anyways so we were feeling adventurous.

My bil and sil live in clearwater beach and we are still mourning the loss of our favorite Holiday Inn right on the beach. It was dated but the staff was fabulous and the rooms in the wing faced the georgous beach! You could literally step from your room to the beach.

Anyway like mama03 mentioned there is sooo much construction right now - lots of the hotels are being torn down and converted into condos :(

We have stayed at the Marriott mentioned above, its ok with a nice pool but the walk across the beach to the public park can be long with kids. Although the park and beach area are lovely. We now stay at the Sheraton Sand Key since our Holiday Inn closed.

I am also interested in hearing about hotels. I am interested in a family resort right on the beach with a pool and slide. We were thinkinking of going to Disney Vero Beach for a couple of days after our Disney trip. I may reconsider if someone can suggest a another great hotel. Thanks

I can tell you that Clearwater Beachview Resort across the street from the beach was an outstanding location with sunset views off their balcony, but the hotel itself is a royal dump.

Try tripadvisor.com It will give you hotels in the area and people's review/rating of them! That's how we found the little family motel we are staying it when we visit!
