I am considering doing a one day beach trip to Clearwater Beach on Sunday Jan 13. { I want to avoid marathon crowds/traffic} Can anyone tell me what the traffic, crowds at beach and parking would be like on a Sunday in Jan? TIA

Sometimes in January you will not get a good beach day....ok the past 2 years we were on the beach in sweatshirts or winter jackets. It will not be crowded in January and parking will be plentiful.

Jan was very cold on the beach when we went ( the kids didn't want to get out of the car.) Very windy and cold

Feb last year was also chilly..

I can only assume you are staying in Orlando and driving to Clw for the day...I'd suggest that you play it by ear. The weather is so amazingly unpredictable from Oct to March. We are at the mercy of cold fronts and when one comes through it can get really cold here. (ok....cold for some of us!);)

I noticed on the weather today that the difference between the record high and record low for this date was almost 50 degrees. Today it was over 90 but it wouldn't be unheard of to be in the 70s.

If the weather is warm, head for the beach. Parking shouldn't be too bad. Our worst time for tourists/traffic is in March-spring break and baseball spring training.

If the weather is cold I'm sure there's plenty in Orlando to keep you busy.

If you do make it to the beach be sure to bring plenty of quarters for the parking meters.

To a fellow Hawkeye...

When we have taken guests to "the beach" we indeed played it by ear and caught some great and some cool/cold weather...
Just a thought...we love Honeymoom Island State Park just north of Clearwater. No condos, no houses, just a couple of older buildings with a small snack shop and bathrooms...You can walk up to 3 miles north on a pristeen shell (small shells but the kids love to collect them) filled beach and then walk south to a more flat beach that the kids could at least get up to ankles in the cold water. Here is the web site...after about 3 hours here we drove over to Clearwater beach for dinner at Couter's, just off the beach a block...it was great...old plank tables, lots of seafood and fun...

Hope the weather works for you...
