Clearwater Area

I'm taking my step-daughter and 2 grandsons to DW in October and would like to take a day to drive over to the Clearwater area to a nice beach. They've never been to DW before nor have they seen the ocean/gulf. I've been to Clearwater once and we found a great beach, but I don't remember where it was. Hard to pick by looking at maps. Can anyone recommend a particular area/beach in Clearwater? Would appreciate your input.

I would recommend Pier 60 on Gulf Blvd.

The beach I went to was really nice, and fairly secluded. I basically just followed signs into town and turned right at the first beach I saw. I want to say it was Sand Key Park. I would recommend Pier 60 on Gulf Blvd.

I agree. You run straight into this area and there is lots of parking. Good with kids because there is a playground and restroom facilities.

Sand Key park also has restrooms as I recall, but I don't like the sand there as well. It's much less crowded though.

I appreciate the replies. Another question - does anyone know if Pier 60 has the Sunset gathering with the artists and crafters all year or just certain times of the year? I'm leaning toward the Pier 60 area for our visit.

DH and I went o Clearwater Beach for our honeymoon and we loved Pier 60, they have a website with a calendar here: www.sunsetsatpier60.com

Pier 60 is a nice area but my favorite is Caladesi Island or Indian Rocks Beach. Pier 60 has the sunset gathering on weekends during the summer.

I lived in Clearwater for two years and headed over to Pier 60 on many occasions. It is a good time. The beach can get very crowded and if you go on a Saturday just getting there can be a pain. The causeway was still under construction when I lived down there though (June 2003 to June 2005) so it might not be as bad.

I would recommend heading south on Gulf Blvd. towards Indian Rocks or even Pass-A-Grill if you would like a less busy beach.

If you do go to Clearwater and want some good food I would suggest Frenchy’s South Beach Café. This is not the Frenchy’s right on the beach but a little south on S. Gulfview Blvd. Their site is here.
