Cleanest budget hotel/motel chains?

We're looking into doing a road trip next summer (probably not to WDW), and I'm wondering which budget motel chains you folks have found to be the cleanest. In the past, we have always camped with our pop up camper, so I really have no experience with choosing a decent budget lodging. I've heard so many stories of mold and bedbugs that I was hoping there were some places nationwide that always seemed to be clean. It would at least give me a starting point to being looking.

Thanks for any input!

We ALWAYS stay at Choice hotels, which are Sleep Inn, Comfort Inn, etc. Our fave is Sleep Inn and Comfort Inn and Suites. I know they are more mid-range. Usually 70. a night, instead of some out there that are 40 a night, but they are always nice.
I would suggest looking at www.tripadvisor.com just for examples. If you type in say Comfort Inn Savannah reviews it will bring up the reviews and pics for that hotel. It also rates the hotel out of all the hotels in Savannah , or whatever city you want to look at. Then you can click on that link and see all the hotels in that city, what they are rated, read the reviews and see LOTS of candid user photos.
This would be the best way I can think of to get a picture of the different budget hotels out there by reading various reviews and and seeing pictures of the rooms and property.:)

The thing about the budget chains (I'm thinking Best Western, Choice, etc) is that they can be very inconsistent. One property may be perfect, and another in the same chain can be a nightmare. I recommend finding some properties that have the qualities you need (location, amenities, etc) and then check them out at tripadvisor.com for an opinion of cleanliness and service.

We have found this to be soooo true. We used to try to find a motel each night on our drives to WDW and had such a hard time...Going from one to another, looking at a lot of rooms, hating the beds, etc...

Now, we get the Coupon books at the visitor center for each State and try to find coupons for Fairfield inns or our favorite HAMPTON INN and stay there for a few dollars more...For that few dollars, we get a pool to have a swim before bed to relax, internet and a HOT breakfast and the best beds ever...Worth it because it saves us from going out to breakfast and we are very well rested and this helps our overall mood.

What used to take us 4 days to drive can now take 3 because we are rested each night.

We have stayed in a few Motel 6 and Super 8 that were ok but if it's not new...it's too old for us.:upsidedow

That is so true with all hotel chains. We booked a Quality Inn and Suites in Jacksonville last year on our way to Disney, and it was awful! THE worst hotel I had stayed in for like 10 years!!! There were teens going in and out of rooms and hanging out in the corridors and parking lot and I felt so uncomfortable and the rooms were so run down, smelly and dirty:scared1:

Yes, the only way to know about a particular hotel location is to look it up, BUT if you are not sure where you are going in a camper traveling, you can kinda get an idea about a particular chain beforehand by looking up that particular hotel around various cities and reading the reviews and looking at the pics. If you are reading consistent bad things about Knights Inn around lots of different cities and locations, then I wouldn't want to stay there at all anywhere.

We've had consistently good stays at La Quinta Inns and Amerisuites in the southeast U.S.

They've all been very clean, safe, well-maintained and reasonably priced, under $100/night for 5 of us w/AAA. They've had an inroom microwave, mini-fridge. They've include a nice breakfast of cereals, baked goods, fresh waffles, sausage, juices, etc. It's pretty easy to get enough frequent stay points for a free night once in a while too.

We've stayed at a few Homewood Suites too, and liked them, but we've read mixed reviews at some of their locations.

We LOVE Hampton Inn's as well, priced right and the quality has been consistent (with the exception of the one in Elizabeth NJ, by the airport, that one was scary, but that was more the clientel or shall I say........the peeps hanging out in the parking lot :scared1: ).

Since we are Hilton Honors gold members we seem to always get any special requests and they really try hard to make us happy.
