Ok, since I'm totally "new" to the whole DVC "home away from home" thing and these are our relatives points we are using - I've gathered that we do NOT get maid service daily - but I'm wondering - how do we "leave" the units upon check out? Ok, don't worry we won't trash the place as say a rock group would .... LOL but do we wash the dishes? Do we need to vacuum or anything? I mean you get the general idea right - exactly what do we "HAVE" to do so I don't do anything wrong and it looks bad on our relatives ...

Thanks so much! :)

You will get towel service on day 4 and full cleaning on day 8. If you are leaving before day 8, you should wash the dishes and utiensiles. Every unit has a dishwasher. Aslo my DW and I always run the vacum really quick. Not a top shelf cleaning but we feel it helps. Also please clean out the fridge. Things can start to grow very quickley in there.

Have a great trip.

You are not required to do anything on your last day. If you wash the dishes, they will re-wash them before the next guest. Some folks help out by stripping the bed, piling the towels in the tub, emptying the trash, etc. but nothing is required.

There is a Garbage closet on the ground level of each unit. You can toss bags of trash and recyclables here. There are additional trash bags in the bottom of each wastebasked in your unit.

If you are staying more than 8 days, they will do the full cleaning first and then the T&T. If you are there less than 8 days, you only get the T&T on the 4th day.

I always pile the towels in one spot, load the dishwasher, clean out the food from the fridge and make sure the ironing board and iron are put away. Nothing is required but I think it may help getting the units done faster.

we strip bed(s) and pile the towels near the door. Load the dishwasher and start it as we are walking out the door. Fridge is cleaned out. we put all trash in one bag and leave near the front door. (we'd take it out if we weren't lugging suitcases out of the unit too!)

we don't do these things because they are required, but we hope that by helping out a little it will assist housekeeping in turning over the unit faster and the next guest won't have to wait until 4 PM to get into their room.

When we leave, we make sure the place looks presentable, we strip the beds and bundle all the towels, load the dishwasher, make sure the kitchen and refrigerator are clean and throw out the last of our trash.

I've heard some stories of people leaving the place in pretty bad shape.
