Clean, Safe & Budget Priced Accomodations

My young co-worker is planning a trip in October and asked me for hotel/motel advice. We always stay on property but she needs to stay offsite for budget reasons. What is your favorite offsite accommodation that is clean, safe, near Universal or Downtown Disney and is also affordable ($40-$60 per night range) for two college age sisters. Thank you!

I know of hotels/motels in the area you are looking that I would consider safe and clean, and I know of motels reasonably close to there that would meet that budget point. I don't know of any that meet both criteria, if they could afford $80-100 per night, they would have a lot more options.

That is the point I have been trying to make to these girls as we have been pricing hotels online.... I encouraged them to stay at a Disney value resort ($85 a night) as I think that would be the safest, cheapest and most convenient place for them. They are only planning 2 nights in the Disney/Orlando area with one day at MK and one at Universal.

Check travelzoo.com . they have the Clarion Inn for 49.00 dollars a night for the all way until December. I have book two trips at this hotel. It gets good reviews.

I see the Value's quote that $85.00 a night on various sites and I've never seen it at $85.00 a night.....or at least not for 5+ years. It's always $100-$130 per night for our off season stays (non-preferred room).

Hello, we have had great experiences at the Comfort Inn in Davenport. It is located at the intersection of I-4 and 27. Hop on I-4 and hit Disney exit in 10 minutes.
Rates are around $50 or so and rated about 8-9 on most sites. It has a really funky entrance and I think that is why prices stay so low.
Only accessible from 27 north lanes. So from I-4 you have to get on 27 south and U-turn at the I-4 east exit. Then coming south on 27 you turn right on Hotel Ave. this is a small drive with a really small street sign....Sounds complicated, but do it once and you are an expert. Great breakfast, basic pool, great rooms. Two of us staying there 6 days next week. Check it out, we love it!

When we stay offsite in Orlando we really like Grand Villas Resort which is right down the road from Downtown Disney. Right now Groupon has a special deal there. A one bedroom is $59 a night. You can easily see and book available dates in October and beyond. We like it because it's close to everything and many places are walkable like Steak and Shake (very reasonable) and the Crossroads shopping center and a nice Publix grocery store. The one bedroom includes a nice kitchen. And the pools and hot tubs are great. Worth a look.

For the price range you are looking for, they will have to drive a bit further to the parks. I would suggest looking at hotels near the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee.

As far as DTD hotel, look at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista. I can find rates around $69 a night there (pre-tax, resort fee, parking, etc.) It is a great location right across from DTD Marketplace.

I really think they would enjoy themselves more if they were at a value.

I agree. If they can get this Group on deal. This will be a great value for them. I wished I could have for Dec.

They should have no problem getting a 3-3.5 star in DTD on Priceline in their budget range. There will be resort fees added, but they should be able to still get something like the Sheraton or Wyndham in the $40-$45 range.

I would suggest they try the Secret Deals on Hotwire. If you research using something like better bidding's site you can usually figure out the exact resort that is being offered. I will note that they will need to watch the Hotwire fee that is tacked on under Taxes & Fees, but it is still usually cheaper.

My sister just used this to get our pre-cruise resort. We were 90% certain of the resort we would get and we were correct. This allowed us to research the resort before deciding to book that deal.

Near Universal I would recommend Hyatt Place. They are suites and you get breakfast.
Many of the DTD are hotels run some good discounts. Check mousesavers.com

This is my vote as well, assuming they have a car. There are also several other chain hotels at this exit and everything is relatively new. Quite a few fast food options close by and other then the complicated exit, we had a great and cheap single night at the HI Express there, before our Disney resort checkin. There's a Target near by, Bob Evans, Wendy's, CiCi's, Subway, McDonalds, etc. I think we paid about $55 total last February.

The Galleria Palms that is apparently 1 mile outside WDW property has gotten rave reviews and you can get a room for $55/night. I haven't ever stayed there but I would, and I might!

I just put stayed at the Springhill Suites at Mariott Village. the AAA rate was $76. They had a very nice breakfast with eggs, sausage, juice etc. that's worth $15-20 for 2 people. There was a micro/fridge in the room, but we didn't use it. Very jive and clean. Comfortable bed and hot showers!

Stayed in Marriott Village multiple times, great value there. Just off I-4 and very close to WDW.

These two hotels are where we stay every trip. 6 or 7 times a year. The HI Express and Comfort Inn are owned by the same folks and have one manager who runs everything onsite. They are even decorated the same.
The HIE has the better breakfast but the experience is the same otherwise.
I did notice they have raised their rates for later this year to the 90 buck range. I hope this is a temporary thing or we will be at the LaQuinta.

Another vote for Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista on Palm Parkway!
This is our go-to off site hotel.
It is just outside the gate at DDT, and lots of cheap eating all around it.

The travelzoo deal is a really good price.
The hotel was renovated a cpl years ago, and the rooms have two beds, microwave, fridge, and privacy doors for bathroom/sink area.

We will be spending our last two days there in Nov, due to the ridonculous prices of the WDW values those two days.

Edited to add:
They provide shuttle service to the parks.
I have never used it, but see many ppl doing so when we are there.
If the girls don't have a car, or want to save on parking fees, this could be a good option.
The travelzoo site says no charge for it.
I just checked Clarion's site, and it says shuttle service is free.
Shuttles to WDW parks, Universal, and Sea World.

I got the Clarion on Palm Parkway for less than 50 bucks the week before Thanksgiving, The Extended Stay next door also is a good place with similar rates on Hotwire and Priceline.

I love Disney resorts, but for the money and ability to decompress from constant all things Disney I prefer offsite. If you stay on Palm Parkway it is easy to come into Disney the back way and save alot of time.

Due to the recent unreliability of the Trains from Chicago to the east coast, I decided to convert my two railfan days to two more days in the park . So I am making lemonade and booked a night at Coronado Springs Resort. Airfare and CRS for a night was less than my two nights on the train in Sleeping car. 60 days vs 30 days for FP+ was a nice little bonus.
