Clay and Reuben!! American IDOL!!!

I'm voting for Clay all the way. He is just the nicest "for real" one there. Did you see the wild card episode, it was about over and everyone stood in the spotlight celibrating. Then there were the poor losers sitting on the couch. Clay was the only one to go over to them, everyone else followed after they noticed of course.
GO CLAY!:Pinkbounc

YES, Shelly - I commented on that before - it really impressed me and I liked him more than I already did. :)

Clay, Ruben and Trenyce - it's going to be a tough fight to the finish! I have confidence that all three of them have good things in store for them - whether or not they "win".

Julia - it's her time to be voted off the island. How ironic for her to sing "What a Feeling" with absolutely NO feeling whatsoever.

There is no doubt that Ruben and Clay are the best thus far. (IMO) I do have one problem though.....Why is it that no one, espesially SIMON, has commented on Rubens clothes or size??? It wouldn't bother me in the least if Simon hadn't made comments on several others that I didn't feel deserved it. I have no problem with Rubens size, just urkes me that Simon would tell Josh and Vanessa to lose weight, but not say a word to Ruben. ( I am a BBW, so I'm not a fatbasher) I too am getting tired of the '205' thing. I'm wondering how long till the judges do to. Now with that off of my chest......

Corey- eh, he's got the look, but that's about it

Clay- I just love this little dorky fella!!!! His voice is 10x the size of him. I hope he makes it all the way.

Ruben- No doubt he will be in the final three and get a contract with or without AI. I agree he has the Luther Vandross thing goin on.

Josh- I am plain smitten by this guy. It may be that I have a thing for Marines, but I just adore him. I think he definately has a place in country music. I was in tears from the moment he dedicated the song till he finished singing it. (that happens to be mine and my husbands song)

Carmen- BLECK. I have hated her voice from the beginning. She is beautiful, but I don't like her singing at all. I think she will be one of the bottom 3 tonight.

Charles- Double BLECK. I just don't like anything about his singing or look. I thought last nights performance was horrid. He too should be in the bottom 3 tonight.

Julia- Triple BLECK. nuff said. She's out tonight.

Kimberly C.- I don't know what it is about her but I just don't like her that much. She does have the look and has the stage presence, but I'm not much on her singing.

Kimberly L.- I thought she looked and sounded wonderful last night. I hope she gets to stay in for a few more rounds so that we can really get to know her potential.

Rickey- Eh, there is something about him that annoys me. I thought he did ok last night, but his voice is too high pitched or something for my liking. I can see him more in a sitcom someday than on the radio.

Trenyce- I wasn't a fan of hers before, but last night she did great! I was very impressed by the song. I too thought she was brave to do a Whitney song, but she pulled it off!

I thought that Vanessa was spunky, but I didn't see her going that far on the show. I hope that we'll get to see her more somewhere else. Maybe as a VJ on MTV??

My top 3 picks are Clay, Ruben, Josh
Bottom 3 are Carmen, Charles, and Julia

Clay, Clay, Clay! He is fantastic! I hope he takes it all!

And, I agree, I don't understand the Carmen thing. Bye, bye, bye, Julia!

I missed all but the last three singers last night because DD had a chorus concert. Saw Ricky, Julia, and Kim L, and thought they all did pretty good. Though Julia looked scared. I'm a little worried about Kellybelly, though, sounds like she's still having problems with her voice. And the Goth look does not suit her. I'm on the Clay train too, wish we could have heard him sing. Now the big question, has Kim C fixed her eyebrows yet? They really bug me! Diana

Tough to use that natural style with a theme like Motown (last week), but he sure pulled off that Aerosmith song with a Garth Brooks flair. I LIKE him a lot!

That's just what my husband and I said--great minds must think alike! :D

On Josh, and his country style. "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" was also a country hit, sung by Mark Chestnut.

I also commented on how wonderful Gladys Knight looked last night!!!

Yes, Julia was Brady dancing again, I think the cameras decided to focus on her face. Yuck, yuck, yuck.

I'd like to see Clay and Rueben in the final three or four but don't forget last year's American Idol. Remember when, oh what's her name (she's playing on Boston Public), America voted her off for the punk rocker/kareoke singer? How easily we forget their names. What an upset! I can see someone really talented being voted off before their time because, gee, isn't this a popularity contest in a way?

As for me, I am not voting in this stage. But thought that Rueben did much better than Clay last night. But I still like Clay over all. And I do agree with Simon about the dresses Trenyce and Kimberly L. wore. They were a little too "grown-up" for my tastes. I didn't like Kelly's either. Rueben's attire doesn't bother me. Nor does Joshua's singing style changing either. I think that it just adds to his persona.

I was wondering if Ruben is thinking merchandising now, or if someone is putting that idea out there. Enough with the area code but perhaps he wants to start selling these shirts and making some money that way.

This is just the fun I needed with all the craziness in the world.Time for some fluffy fun and I'm rooting for Clay

I am proud to say that Clay is from my town, Raleigh, and he is a YMCA camp counselor, like my own son. My husband and I ran into him in the mall after he was not selected and before becoming a wild card choice. He is just as nice in person as he appears on camera. I have to say that I have been pulling for him as if he were my own son.

I am hoping against hope that we will see the show tonight and that it will not get pre-empted.

Julia D. is the one I hope is gone. She does not deserve another week of the fun and celebrity status that the others do, in my opinion.

You guys keep pulling for Clay. I am sending text messages as fast as I can when I vote.

Julia's a goner!

One comment....

I understand why it would benefit a performer to have a certain style that was consistent from week to week, but, isn't the competition set up to do exactly the opposite?

It seems like if they're going to switch musical genres, then the performer's styles would have to change from week to week as well.

I don't get it.

I agree with you and I felt the criticism of Josh's style was not warranted. I mean exactly how was Josh supposed to sing a Motown song with a country song and not get voted off?

I agree that seeing a difference in styles is important and sort of built into the show. My problem with Josh's performance was that it was a such a surprise to see him over the top with his country vowels and nasal tones. Those traits are really only found acceptable in country music. Other traits like powerful singing and even Carmen's yodeling sound are traits that can carry through and be useful in other genres.

Being able to change styles and showing up with a COMPLETELY different voice than the one that got him on that stage are completely different things! I must admit, I had the same exact look on my face as Simon did... total incredulity!! WHERE did that come from????

Even Josh said he had to revert to what was truly him but it was not what got him there in the first place. He may have gained alot of country fans last night but I think he confused the judges immensely.

I would think that the winner, like Kelly, should be a Top 40 genre, where the money is for the producers. It may not be what everyone cares for but crossover is what spells m-o-n-e-y.

There's definitely 2 tiers right now - Top Tier in my opinion - based on last night's performance:

#1 - Clay - he has something that just reaches out and touches you.
#2 - Ruben - he's just awesome.
#3 - Trenyce - really redeemed herself in my eyes last night
#4 - Joshua - Hey, country guys make big bucks too!

The rest are far behind, in this order:

#5 - Kimberly C. - too full of herself. She's been performing professionally since the age of 5 and is polished as an entertainer. Unfortunately she seems to be able to sing only about 5 notes - really! Listen to her! All her songs are very "monochromatic."
#6 - Kimberly L. - okay, nothing special
#7 - Ricky - ditto
#8 - Charles - ditto
#9 - Julia - ditto
#10 - Carmen - what's up with that yodeling? What was Simon thinking?
#11 - Corey - he was just plain bad.

I haven't read this whole thread but THANK YOU. AM glad to know that there're others out there annoyed by the Swiss Miss' yodelling...:).

OK, maybe I was watching aa different show last night - Charles was not great, granted. But I think he has potential.

but Julia - you're kidding right? How did she survive again? She made Flashdance sound sooo boring.

Maybe next week.....It;s disco, right? What week is yodeling?

So anyone know who was eliminated tonight? I'm assuming that everyone got to watch what we did - nothing happening in the skies over Baghdad. Diana
