Can anybody recommend a quick, easy Christmas craft that can be done for the Kindergarten holiday party? We are hoping for something cheap, but fun.

:dance3:

Magnets or ornaments with their picture glued on? You can buy the magnetic stuff in self-adhesive strips that you cut lengths of, and it is cheap. Then you can make magnets out of just about anything as long as it isn't too heavy. Or for ornaments just make whatever and glue or tie a loop of ribbon on. We have done stars cut out of felt, glue two together for some rigidity, then they can decorate with glitter, beads, googly eyes, shells...whatever you happen to have hanging around that can be glued on something. The pictures are so cute and make it really special but you don't have to have them. Instead of felt, you can also get foam or wood shapes cheaply, or buy the sheets of foam and cut out your own shapes. JoAnn fabrics had the wood ornaments on sale cheap this week, if you have that store near you.

Cut out snowflakes and let them decorate them. Then put them on a string to hang. Or make snowmen out of marshmallows and candy stuck together with icing. Or skip the craft and just let them socialize. (sorry, crafts at school parties are a pet peeve of mine) Good luck and have fun!

pipe cleaners and a big bags of green and red beads (tri beads work best) to make wreaths. They thread on some green breads and then one red bead in a pattern (educational!). Can't remember how many green, just try it at home. Then make it into a circle, twist the pipe cleaner into a loop or secure it and a add a red ribbon to make a Christmas ornament.

ETA: you can also do red and white beads to make candy canes.

I was just gonna post that my kids did the beads/candy cane. Also they made a snowman out of cotton balls. Just thought of a few more they did. They put oatmeal with glitter in a baggy. I think it was supposed to be reindeer food. They took a milkbone dog biscuit and make it into Rudolph.

I actually just saw this in Real Simple magazine.

Take a paper plate, cut a hole in the center, so it looks like a wreath.

Take regular stick on bows, and stick them all around the paper plate. They showed it with all red bows and one green one at the bottom to look like the bow on the wreath, but I am quite sure that any color bows would do.

Poof! When it's all done, it's a cute little Christmas wreath.

Take brown felt or construction paper and draw an outline of a child's foot. Then take red or green felt or construction paper and draw an outline of both hands.

Glue the hands behind the feet in such a way that they overlap, and look like antlers.

It's a reindeer! Now decorate the face with markers or googly eyes.

I did that with my kids when they were little for a few years to see how big the reindeer grew. I was so upset when we lost that box of Christmas decorations in a move. :sad2:

make a raindeer ornament out of a paperbag and some construction paper. Trace their foot for the face on the paper bag to cut out. ( you can cut out both sides and place a small amount of stuffing inside.)Trace their hands for the atlers(Green paper looks good). Red pompom for nose, some googley(sp?) eyes. This is really cheap and they turn out cute.

In the past, my kids have enjoyed making bags of "reindeer food' to sprinkle on the lawn for Santa's reindeer. If you google it, there are a variety of ways to make it, using glitter or colored sugar, oats, etc. Then you just have the kids fill and decorate paper bags and tie them up, and they take them home for Christmas Eve.

I know there is some sort of poem or story to go with this. I remembered it was really cute.

Tamborines for a group singing of jingle bells - have these made ahead of time:

2 heavy duty paper plates glued with a couple of tablespoons of rice or barley in the middle

hole punch on opposite sides and tie on bells w/yarn

Let the kids color or glue on glitter - then they can use them for a song to close out their party.
