Any Classical Music fans (or listeners of eclectic tastes) out there? On another board I saw a "what are you listening to now" thread that was a lot of fun. Do we have enough players to make that work?

I love classical music, but I couldn't tell you who I'm listening to! LOL! :teeth:

I guess I could use the phrase our class used in Literature..."Some dead guy." :teeth:

I enjoy classical music. I have a post grad degree in music and am a classically trained trumpet player. My DH is a violist. The classical music section is one of the few rounds where DH and I get nearly all of them right when we do music quizzes!!

*chuckle* Here here Pin Wiz!! I love classical too. I never use to. My MIL plays it all the time and so I kind of got hooked over the last 13 years.

Thankfully (no offense to those who enjoy it) Opera has not rubbed off. (OK I like Josh Groban and Charlott Church, are they considered Opera??)
No matter how hard I try I just can not enjoy it. It ranks about the same as rap in my book. LOL. Sadly MIL enjoys Opera so I do have to listen to it once in a while.

I enjoy opera.

::yes:: I'm a fan of classical music. One of the great things about having XM satellite radio for me is having three classical stations to pick from (plus all of the other kinds of music that I love, too).

I do! I love performing more than anything. Right now, my choir is delving into Mozart's Requiem. I'm a HUGE fan of the Master Works. I am classically trained, but I would one day love to dabble in vocal jazz and cabaret. I did two operas in school. It's a lot of fun.....vocal acrobatics.

My FIL calls it all opera. If a woman sings solo and it's high, it's opera by defailt. He asked me why I don't sing Patsy Cline. *sighs* Oh well. I love her music, but I have a different kind of voice.

I love to listen to classical music. It calms me down. When my children are yelling in the car I turn the radio to the classical music station and magically all 3 children get quiet. It is amazing what it does to them. My 22 month old only listens to classical lullabies when going to sleep.

I have been playing the piano since I was three. Classical music is my first love. My favorite composers are Mozart and Rachmanioff.

I love Classical music. :) Mostly vocal... Renee Fleming, Cecilia Bartoli, Dawn Upshaw, Kiri TeKanawa, Maria Callas, Montserrat Caballe, I could go on and on. :) I love opera... Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, Wagner, pretty much anything. I also enjoy orchestral and piano. :) I love to relax to Chopin. :)

How cool! I just saw Dawn Upshaw perform with the Atlanta Symphony. She blew me away! What a voice! She performed Golijov’s Three Songs. For an encore she dazzled us with an aria for an opera she was about to appear in. I didn't catch the name.

I really enjoy classical and I love Jazz too. I heard a choral performance of Requim a few months ago and it was great-- fab soloists.

I love classical music as well!!! Actually I love all types!! Some of my favorite music out there are the soudtracks to movies (the all orchestral types) in addition to stuff done by the "dead guys" ;) Right know I am listening to sort of classical... Josh Groban. I get to see him in concert in about 3 weeks!!! If I could though, I'd go to the symphony more often :)

Thanks for all the reply's. My undergrad degree is in Music (woodwinds) but I now work in I.T. (go figure). But I live for music nonetheless and listen to all kinds. I also love Opera but I have to go with my sons or my Dad because my Wife doesn't care for it. Favorite composer is Mozart (no big surprise from the avitar, huh) and I guess I'm partial to the classical period. But there isn't any of it I really hate....though I have less tollerance for 20th century classical music and a little Wagner goes a long way.

So this morning I'm listening to Aaron Copland Appalaciahn Spring (speaking of 20th century). What about you?

I love Pachabel, anything, anytime. Mozart, Bach. Love Aaron Copeland also. Good listening!!! Our choir is joining with two other choirs in our area and singing parts of Rutter's Requiem. Nice to know there are so many others out there who like the same music I do.

I just did Rutter's Requiem last summer! It's so beautiful! I'm envious of my friend. She performed it at Carnegie Hall with Rutter conducting.

Copland is great. I did a lot of solo work with his material.

I also like the classical period, but the music from the Romantic era just melts my butter....:D I really love Brahms. Faure is another favorite. His Requiem is my favorite of all time. In Paradisum leaves me breathless.....:D

I also like baroque music. It's just so intricate and textured and is engaging on so many cognitive levels.

Chris isn't so keen on 20th century works. Some of it is OK. My choir did the Frostiana last Fall and Chris asked when we'd get back to the good ol' stuff....:D

I love Baroque music too. I think my favourite piece to perform in (sing or play the trumpet) is Handel's Messiah.

How did I manage to forget Faure?? Whenever our choir director passes out music, some of us just sigh with happiness when it's Faure.

Just last night we were working on the Hallalujah Chorus, for Easter. It is a little strange with only 2 altos and three sops singing. Evidently the men didn't want to brave the snow. Man, tenors....can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em. Now if only we can get the choir director/organist to play it a tempo!! It's not a dirge you know.
