Bringing back the c/o 2012 thread.

Again, we can all attempt to offer help to each other for classes, tests, or college application tips if need be or just comfort each other when the concept of moving out and going to college and becoming an adult gets too overwhelming.

What classes are you guys taking?

My academics:
-AP Literature (SO PSYCHED for this course, omg. Especially since I got a 4 on Lang.)
-AP U.S. Government (semester 1)
-AP Macroeconomics (semester 2. My brother gave me his notes from when he took macro in college, hopefully it'll come in handy )
-Advanced topics in math (another name for trigonometry. Gah, I hate math.)
-I signed up for Earth/space science honors just in case the IPS course I took in 8th grade wouldn't count as a science credit (heard mixed things, and figured I'd be safer taking another easy science) but my schedule doesn't have my 2nd period listed and I'm wondering if that's the course...ah well, schedule changes are tomorrow.

I go back to school on the 23rd, trying to enjoy these last few days of freedom.

Yeah seniors!!! It's crazy thinking that I'm actually going to be a senior this year - high school has gone so fast!

My lovely schedule for next year:
-AP Calculus (*gulp*)
-AP Literature
-AP Psychology (I've been pumped for this class since I was literally like 6)
-Honors Spanish 3
-Advanced Theatre
-Film as Literature (semester 1)
-Modern Drama (semester 2)

I don't go back until Sept 1, leaving me plenty of time to do that AP Lit homework I've put off all summer

YEAHH!!!!:) SENIORS:D This calls for dancing bananas: :banana::banana::banana:

I'm taking:

- AP English (lit and lang...still reading the book I have to have read by the time school starts on the 17th!:D hahah)
- AP European History
- Dual Credit Gov/Econ (in ONE semester! It's usually a year long...this is going to be interesting)
- Calculus H
- Spanish 3 H
- Sports/Entertainment Marketing (planning the prom yeeahh!:) )
- Teacher Assistant (Its for my AP US History teacher that I had last year and it's second semester sooo they'll be getting ready for exams, so I can A) psych them out and make it seem SUPER hard even though I though it was easy. B) Kick back and relax. or C) all of the above:woohoo:

I am switching schools for my senior year! I dont know one single person at my new school so thats a bit nerve racking.

I originally wanted
Psychology or cooking 2
AP Government
Lit/composition
AP Stats
Anatomy/phyisiology
Forensics

They messed it up so for now I have
Dance
Ap stats
Office Aid(DO NOT WANT)
regualr gov
english lit/ comp
Forensics

We are going to try and switch out my sched.

I got my schedule fixed today, so now this is how my days are going to go:

Computer for college career (not looking forward to this. I wanted to switch out but the options I had were even worse)
Holocaust studies the first semester/creative photography the second semester
Third & fourth period are my publication classes for creative writing, woo~
Fifth is AP Gov first semester/AP Macro second semester
After lunch is advanced topics
And AP Lit to end the day

I love how my only serious/non-elective before lunch is Gov/macro. Oh I hope this year will be easier than last year.

I have:

Acting 1
Spanish 2
English 4
Advanced topics in math (Kill me now)
Economics/Creative Photography
Physical science

And I'm supposed to be in Culinary Arts but they put me in a remedial reading class which I do not need. (I was at a 12th grade reading level by 8 years old)
So tomorrow is Senior Schedule Change day and I'm going to get this straightened out.

Senior Power!!! :)

My schedule should be

1st) AP Goverment
2nd) Recreational PE (ugh... I wish I wasn't stupid and put it off my Freshman year and Sophomore year now I pay the price)
3rd) College Physics (Not AP but you get college credit)
4th) Pre-Calculus
5th) Adv. Theatre Arts
6th) College Writing (You get college credit without taking the AP test)

My second semester should be pretty identical except
1st) AP Psychology
2nd) Recreational PE (Wish I didn't have to take PE all year but this is what I get for taking a foreign language and band Freshman year)
3rd) College Physics
4th) Pre Calculus
5th) Adv. Theatre Arts
6th) College writing

We don't start till September 8th I think so I still have almost a month to go

Whoo Adv Theatre classes! I took my version of it last year with one of my best friend and I'm super excited to take it again this year with my other best friend!

Not sure if I qualify for class of 2012 as I kinda have equal claim to being class of 2010, 2012 and 2013 for different reasons.. Class of 2010 because that's when I finished high school, class of 2012 because that's when I should've finished college (UK-style college, bear in mind) at 18 and 2013 when I will finish college because I've moved colleges and I'm starting afresh with a new course and everything.

Anyway, I'm starting a travel and toursim course next month. :')

I always find it cool how you can do subjects like forensics rather than just science in high school in the US. Sounds awesome.

yeah, I am super excited for my forensics class!
Do they not have those in other countries?

Turns out it wasn't a remedial reading class but an FCAT prep class so I have to take it.
Good news is that when I pass them in October I can switch to something else.

Might I ask senior project and other wonderful graduation stuff? What all do you have to do to graduate at your school? My school is known for being the hardest in the state of Washington with graduation requirements there a pain for even 4.0 students believe I've heard there complaints! What are you doing for your senior project if you have to do one and your culuminating project which you do all 4 years to graduate?

Wow, that's insane for your school. I wish you the best of luck in getting through the requirements. :goodvibes

All the schools in my county have the same basic graduation requirements, 4 years of English, 4 years of math, 3 of science, world history & American history, 2 years of a foreign language, 1 credit of P.E. (thank goodness I got that out of the way freshman year).

Thankfully the English, math, government, and econ credits are the last ones I need to fulfill.

I know my GPA is in good shape, I think you need a two-point something to graduate and my unweighted is a 3.6.

As for senior projects, if we have them at my school, they've done nothing to tell us. But since I'm majoring in creative writing right now we make chapbooks consisting of our own work and we get to sell them at an event at the end of the year, so we've kind of been working on our chapbooks all four years if we put work from before senior year in it.

That's crazy! I just need a certain number of credits in each subject. Something like 4 english, 3 science, 3 social studies, 2 math, and 10 electives. All I really need is that last English credit, so I basically got to fill my schedule this year with classes I wanted to take rather than what I HAD to take

I am home schooled so things are a bit different , but I will graduate next year. I have English, Chemistry, Calculus, and Canadian History 2.

Truthfully, I didn't need to take anything to graduate...haha i could've graduated early, but I wanted to take AP classes that are all year long, so my interest in doing that over took instead of graduating early

Wow I seriously thought every school had senior projects ours was just known to be the worst, so to graduate here you must have:

4 Credits of English (I already have 3 which is as much as a 2012 student could have so far)
2 Credits of Math (I already have 3 so far)
3 Credits of Social Study's (I have 2.5 so far)
1 Credit of Art (I have 1.5 so far)
1.5 Credits of PE (I have .5 so far PE isn't exactly my interest why wouldn't they just give me credit for dance?)
.5 credit of Health (I have my .5)
1.5 CTE credits (Career and Technical Education) (I have my 1.5)
2 Science Credits (I have 3 so far)
and 7 Electives (I have almost all of them)

So that part is pretty normal then we have our culuminating project which is to be done over 4 years only thing is everyone I know including me didn't know that till a few days before we were let out for Summer so now were scrambling that includes

A Binder which inside must include:

- A CoE which was some 15 page essay we wrote Freshman year which honestly I don't remember what it was about also everything must be at standard in it or you don't graduate

-A employabilitly portfolio which includes

  • Resume
  • Job Application
  • Cover Letter or College/Scholarship application and essay
  • Reference Letter
  • 2 Job Shadows the a bunch of paper work
  • Documented Interview

- A scholarly paper which is a paper you write over a years time to graduate everything must be at standard the paper is a college level research paper if one little tiny thing isn't at standard you don't graduate.

That's not even everything in it just what is on-line

Then you have your senior project which you do the Summer of your senior year that entitles:

- Finding a project or choosing to volunteer somewhere
- Filling out a proposal which is 5 pages long of repeating yourself
- Getting a bunch of paper work signed
- Doing a mandatory interview before you start your project
- For mine volunteering 40 hours at a senior assisted living place
- Documenting every silly step
- Anotated bibliographies which are the death of me

Then you have to present your project on a power point to a board of school member like everything else everything MUST be at standard or you don't graduate
