DS Bradley competed in his first track meet today. He did a two-mile run. :o Anyway, he came in last, but he tried and he finished it(which is what we told him was the important thing). But, what was so awesome was, at the end, not only were all of his teammates cheering him on, but the opposing team was also clapping and cheering for him.

I was so impressed at the sportsmanship! I plan to write a letter to the opposing coach to let them know that their kids have certainly earned my respect.

I bet their coach would be just tickled to get your letter! Great job on their part, and their coach's part.

And extra great job to Bradley!!!!!

That's awesome...You deserve to be a proud mom!::yes:: :bounce:

As I tell my DD, it's not about winning...it's about doing the best you can!

Bumping just because I think these teens deserve to be bragged on. Don't hear a lot of good stuff about kids anymore. ;)

Congratulations to your son.

My daughter is also on track and, I have found that the kids that run track are an exceptional bunch. They really cheer each other on

Congrats to <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/24/24_2_23.gif' border=0></a>

A letter to the coach sounds like a great idea.

WOW--cool story. Great job sticking with it to you DS. He will go far in life with an attitude like that (and a supportive MOM)

I like this post. :)

Congrats to Bradley. :)

Just to clear.........although I AM proud of Bradley, I bumped to brag on the sportsmanship of the other kids. (Lest anyone thinks I bumped to get praise for Bradley! ;) Of course, I don't MIND hearing the kudos to my kid, too. :p )

Congrats to your son for going for it. And Congrats to you for taking the time to let the coach know how impressed you were with his kids. Not many people would take the time. So hats off to you as well!

Ok, that was a nice way to start the day...even got teary eyed!
Way to go Bradley!!!!!!

How neat, Kristy, all around, Bradley, the kids (both teams), you. A nice thread indeed. Thanks, Kristy. :sunny:

That's nice to read and really great of you to write the letter. I think the positive reinforcement will do wonders! Thanks for sharing such a great experience!

I have to say that teens involved in Track or Cross Country are the MOST polite students that I have ever met. I was at the Pennsylvania Cross Country Statewide meet last November 1st and was blown away by how oposing teams would cheer for one another. It gave me goosebumps.

I was also at a track meet last week where the oposing team had a mentally chalenged girl running the 800 meter race. OMG--Tears! Every student (from both teams) was at the end cheering for this girl.

Your son is participating in a wonderful sport.

It is wonderful that both teams cheered him on. I think a nice letter would be a great thing to send. It is amazing how often we let the nice things go by and only write to complain about the bad. A letter like yours will do wonders for the students.
