Would appreciate any recent information on this hotel.
I've found a few threads on this Disboards search engine but wondered if anyone had stayed very recently. We know it's not going to be luxury - just want somewhere close to WDW, clean and safe! Also good restaurants within a stone's throw!
Thanks....

My in laws stayed there in Nov on a Priceline bid (about $30/night I think)....big room, odd layout, nice and clean. Friendly staff. Kind of worn and shabby in places but definately not scuzzy.

I would call it decent, safe basic lodging. Don't remember much about restaurants. We were staying at AKL so we took the back road from AK right into the hotel parking lot so we never had to get out onto 192 traffic (which is a real plus at certain times of the day).

Stayed there for 1 night again this past December on a Priceline bid of $29.00.

The rooms are fairly big with a lot of room. It is a very odd layout. When you first walk in the door you are in a separate room that only contains a sleeper sofa...then as you move in from there the bathroom is in the middle with a closet that is built out into the room where the 2 double beds are.

Both times we have stayed here it has been clean...not the Ritz, but we did not expect it.

There is a restaurant on-site that we did not try, but did try the bar/snack hut out by the pool...very good chicken strip basket and lots of food for the money...small plain round pool...pretty small for the size of the hotel...with some lounge chairs...also a small hot tub.

We did laundry in a small laundry room on the same floor we stayed on...very small..only 2 machines...took awhile for our turn.

The location is not too bad...on 192, but as mentioned above the backroad to the AK is not bad at all....we were there when there was not a lot of traffic so 192 route was also fast...

Word of warning...there is a "golden Corral" across the street that is absolutley horrible....avoid at all costs...dirty, expenseve and terrible food.

DH and I stayed there twice about 6 months ago for Priceline bids of $26 and $30. We were happy with the hotel for the price. It's older and the furniture is a bit shabby, but the hotel is very clean, in a decent area (plenty of restaurants around and a Denny's right next door), and the staff was quite pleasant.

We did eat at their breakfast buffet and thought it was decent food (all you can eat for about $7.50 including gratuity)--scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, grits, toast, bagels, yogurt, fruit salad, cereal & milk, etc. I think a child's plate was free with every paid adult plate.

Our rooms did not have the odd layout mentioned by another poster.

Many thanks everyone, sounds like we'll be fine there!
Also helpful to hear about the not-so-good Golden Coral as we had that chain down as a definite due to various reports and our own memories from '96. Perhaps we'll avoid that particular one!
The hotel breakfast might be an option.

I've never used Priceline, but am considering it, after seeing some of the rates everyone has gotten at the Clarion Maingate.

Can you tell me what category you selected when making your bid? Or the details I'd need if I do this?

Thanks!

WE eat at that particular Golden Corral at least once on each visit, sometimes twice. We think it is great, a little more than the Sizzler, but definatle worth it, I have never seen such a choice selection at any breakfast buffet. Even made to order omelets and all baking done on site. Can't get it much fresher.

this was a 2 1/2 star hotel in the WDW area on priceline. It was certainly worth the $30 we paid for my in laws... but I wouldn't call it Pricelines greatest bargain... and I would hate to think I had paid much more than that for it... if you are interested in learning more about priceline bidding a good place to go is www.biddingfortravel.com.

Thanks for the input. I did put in $30 for 2.5 stars and it came back with nothing. Not sure if I should try later or not.

I did find another hotel through choicehotels.com that has a $38.66 rate. The Quality Inn Maingate West. I've been doing some searching on it and am finding both good and bad. Any experience with that one?

I might start another post on that one tomorrow if I can't find any recent information.

Thanks again for your response.

I will be staying there when I go to disney world in January. So this thread is very helpful.:D
