Clarification - RAC checkin

both as to whether I can actually assign myself a seat, still no, and how many seats at higher fare classes are left, currently 45.

Would they assign me a higher fare class seat if that's all that's available at the gate? DD and I were bumped to First Class several years ago. Is that still a possibility?

When you get to the 24 hour mark and check for seating, map will show available seats for you to pick from. The people who get upgraded from coach to first/business &/or preferred seat, their original seat will open up.

You will have boarding pass with seat assignment before you go through security. With flights being so full these days, getting upgraded from coach to first (unless frequent flyer of airline) is almost a thing of the past.

I always check in for our SW flights at 24 hours and then use RAC and have never had an issue. :confused3

While they refer to as check-in, I think of it as really only giving you a boarding number.

You don't essentially check in until you are at the RAC counter or at the airport.

SW is a totally different kind of animal.
