So, if my use year is June... and I book a stay now using june 2019 points for a june trip, I am not technically borrowing because the trip is in June.. but if the trip was before June I would be borrowing to take that trip, correct?

If so, then I just need to cancel 30 plus days in order to have my points go back?

Also, if I dont want to use say 17 points but buy one time use points, can I call member services and do that transaction for a reservation day I already have booked so I can keep those points for another trip I need 11 month booking for?

Thanks so much, KIM

If you are booking a trip for June 2019 and you have a June UY, you will use June 2019 points and they are not borrowed. If you booked that trip for May 2019, you would need to borrow from June 2019 if you didn't have any June 2018 points. If you cancelled the May 2019 trip before 30 days out, your borrowed points would stay in the 2018 UY and not go back to the 2019 UY. If you cancelled 1-3o days out, they would become holding points.

For your question about OTU points, I don't know. You'd need to call MS.

OK, I had it right... thanks so much!! I will call MS. Appreciate it!!

Just and FYI, your banking dead line for June is Jan 31. So if you have some 2018 points you want to use for that trip, bank them soon.

I think they would allow to reallocate the OTUP into another reservation only if that was done at 7 months. If the reservation was done using the home resort advantage, they shouldn't allow you to reallocate. There are conflicting reports about this and it seems someone has been able to do it, but recently they've enforced the rule more (as it should be).

Th e rule is they will reallocate at 7 months or less if there is at least a day or days worth of availability that equals the points you are asking to replace with OTU points.

They will only let you buy OTU points at 7 months out when making a reservation. You can not purchase them and then ask they be put into a reservation that is already secured. Having said that, you can call, book a dummy reservation using the OTU points, then cancel that dummy reservation which would put the OTU points back into your account. You could then call to ask to use them but remember, what you already have booked has to still be available. If it is not, they will not "swap" them into a reservation that was made using home resort advantage.

As already mentioned, any borrowed points from your 2019 UY into your 2018 UY, regardless when you cancel, would remain in the 2018 UY and expire May 31st, 2019. If you cancel less than 31 days, not only would be they remain in 2018 UY, they would also become holding points which means they could only be used to book reservations 60 days or less from the start of the vacation.

Booking trips late in your UY with borrowed points is very risky if you are not 100% sure you are going since there isn't time to use the points up if a cancellation has to happen.
