Okay so the locations and dates for some of the 2006 CKU's are out. Who else is already planning to go? I have already booked my hotel and now I'm just waiting until Dec/Jan to register. Anyone else here excited about it? BTW, I will be attending the one in Oak Brook (Chicago area). :cheer2:

I am also most likely attending the Nashville CK Convention as well!

Now, off to Michael's after work!

Come on.. NO ONE on this board is going? If you're not going in 2006, but you have been before please tell me all about it! I want to know about classes, crops, dorms, shopping and everything else!

BTW...

The CK Convention Schedule for 2006 is:

Portland, OR: March 17-18, 2006
Mesa, AZ: April 21-22, 2006
Nashville, TN: April 28-29, 2006
Manchester, NH: May 19-20, 2006
Buffalo, NY: June 2-3, 2006
Valley Forge, PA: Jul 28-29, 2006
Charlotte, NC: August 4-5, 2006
Tulsa, OK: August 11-12, 2006
Phoenix, AZ: Sept 15-16, 2006
Bellevue, WA: Nov 3-4, 2006

and the CKU locations and dates are:

San Jose - June 21 - 25
Chicago - Mar 30th - April 2nd
Boston - August 19th - 27th
Atlanta - July 26 -29
Provo - May
Houston - Sept 13-17 Westin Galleria

I'll probably try to hit the Portland one this year.

i have been to 5 cku's, but not a ck convention.

what specifically do you want to know about them???

I went to the one in PA this past July and will probably go again next year. I will take less classes (and will only take those by big name mfg) and do more make and takes at the vendor fair.

Good for me...I've been there 4/5 years...and now want to go to Chicago and/or San Jose this year...as a teacher May is not good.
I find CKU to be a big step up from conventions. Cost, too...
3 intense days of classes all day and crops each night. In 4 CKUs I have had only one BAD class...I cannot say the same of conventions...they seem to be more hit & miss. Sure, I have ones I liked better than others.
Personally I find CKU to be worth the $ & my time. I come home inspired w/ new ideas...just what I need about once a year to keep the creative juices flowing.

cku's are well worth the time (you won't get much sleep) and money. they have really come a long way since the first few that i have been to. you never (or rarely) finish your project in class, so you do it for "homework" or at the crops at night. at least now they give you detailed and most of the time in color directions and pictures. the first few that i went to, they did not (original one in provo in 2001). i have tons of class projects waiting to get done.

also, at cku's just like convention classes, they offer classes that are hip and current. most of the time they are from good companies (chatterbox, rusty pickle, making memories). while taking the classes they give you enough stuff to whet your appetite so you want to go and buy more of their products.

if you go to a cku, be prepared to spend at least $1000...and that didn't include shopping or airfare. cku's are on the expensice side, but well worth it.

It doesn't look like I will be going to CKU next year :guilty: San Jose would be perfect, but it is my last week of school (last student day, last teacher day).

I loved CKU Albums and I would highly recommend it :cool1:

I will probably go to the one in Nashville if I don't have any work or school conflicts. I'm only 45 mins north of Nashville so it's the closest one to me. I went to it last year and altho I didn't schedule any clases, I did pick up ALOT of really neat supplies that I haven't seen anywhere else.
Thanks for posting the dates...haven't had a chance to look it up yet.

I went to the CK convention this year. I volunteered and it was so much fun. I will definatey go again in 2006. Actually I already signed up to be a volunteer again. The goodie bag was amazing.

I'm thinking about the convention in Manchester, NH. I've never done anything like that before, but I think it would be fun.

NE Eyeyore -
I have done the convention the last two years and I really have enjoyed it -
but this year was the first time I ever did the crop - and I would skip that - they sit 10 people or so at a ROUND table to you have a TINY pie shaped area to scrap - hard to get anything done! Waste of $

if you are one of those that plans on cropping at cku, you better pack really light...

although at this last one i went to...cku orlando...alot of people brought alot of stuff and were busy cropping away...i think alot of people left shortly after the celebs left and the scrappers stayed.

a crop at cku is much what pattyt just said...very crowded.

i never go with anything to scrap...i bring my class projects and don't even get those done...

What are the conventions like? I've never been to one, but the Tulsa one is on my Dad's birthday, so I could make that an excuse to go for a visit...built in hotel, built in babysitters and my mom and I could go feed our gluttony for SBing stuff!

Is it worth planning a vacation around?

Thanks for your great input! I was just wandering what costs added up to the $1000? I know CKU it self will be $300-350 (albums or reg.) and then my hotel is $109/night for 3 nights. I was just trying to figure things out and I figured it would be $1000 tops including shopping and such. Thanks!

the last cku that i went to was a regular one...cku orlando...it was held at the gaylord palms...i am thinking that ck has a contract with gaylord resorts because it seems that the one in orlando, tenn, and tx are all held at them.

ok...here is a run down.

$345 for tuition.
$250 for hotel...and that was split between 3 people...you can't imagine all that charges that they tack on a night!!! and we got the $99 room deal.
$7.50-$15.00 a night for parking...whether you self park or valet it.
$200.00 at least for food....and i only ate one meal each night there...i did breakfast and lunch from my room with purchased stuff. we ate at the pool bar/restaurant one night and i got a cheeseburger ($12) and 2 drinks and my bill was $37 with tip!!! for a cheeseburger!!!
$100 for gas and tolls on the way to and from
don't forget you have to tip the bellman and valets....you do come home with alot more bags then when you left!!!

i did not do shopping at the stores, but i did buy alot of stuff from the cku store...i bought like 4 shirts, and other trinkets. i can do shopping here, so i didn't bother there....plus it was already enough money spent!!!

see, before i did shopping at the cku store, it was already $900...and that didn't include airfare, rental car or airport transfers to the hotel. i got lucky this time because i drove...i usually end up flying to them...

just save all your spare change...that is what i do...it is like my vacation *extra* money...
