I have in my notes that you can ask for some sort of child ID at City Hall in MK. Sorry to say that is all I wrote, so not very helpful. Can someone tell me what type of ID they use and where the child wears it?

I could not find the info by doing a search, so sorry for another ID thread.

Thanks,

a birth certificate?

personally i wouldnt put too much info on a child. how to reach the parent is all that needs to be on the child.

I thought I read that they have some sort of ID tag/sticker or something that you put your contact info on and attach to the child. Just another version of the tatoos, bracelets, etc that everyone mentions on here. I believe the post said the CM's are trained to look for them. Perhaps I was wrong . . .

i dont know, never heard of it. i would think you could just get a peice of scrap fabric, write your contact info on it and safety pin it to the inside of the shirt.
but i would only put your first name and phone number on it. if its a very small child then maybe their first name.

I know i saw several tag engraving machines in the parks- disney themed ones (like pet dog tags/key fobs) where you could put in what you wanted- like your name and cell number, they were a few dollars each but would be easily attached to a belt loop, button whole etc and water proof

It is a paper tag with a string, you can loop it thru and hang it on a belt loop, you could also probably safety pin it to something. I haven't gotten one recently, the last one I got had a pic of a young Mickey and Minnie (with ice cream cones) on the front with a line for "child's name". The back says,
"CHILD IS WITH:" it then has lines for NAME, LOCAL ADDRESS, TELEPHONE
at the bottom it says,"LOST CHILDREN is located next to the CRYSTAL PALACE and FIRST AID STATION"

I usually just fill it out with our names and cell phone #s. I have also printed out similar tags on the computer and laminated them, those usually last longer.

I don't know about them being trained to look for them though.

Thank you! Glad to know I had heard of them. I like your idea of printing your own. I am trying to think of something that will not bother her, and I do not want to write on her or do a tatoo. I appreciate the response.

i wanted to add also, im not sure if your faliliar with the process of them returning a child to the parent, but unfortunately i have been through it. in 2006 we became seperated from our 5yo daughter.
the system is quite organized. as soon as you realize your child is missing you let the closest cm know. for us it was coming out od philharmagic, so we told the fast pass attendant. he immediately radiod the lost child center. in the mean time my daughter had made her way to the tinkerbelle store and she told them there that she was lost. they only asked her for her first name, and then called the lost child center and found out where i was and they walked her to me. they wouldnt have gone through her clothing looking for id, it wasnt necsessary. nor would they have needed to call me on my cell, and to be honest i dont think they would have. i think they are trained to do it this way. possibly if the cm had called the lost child center and there wasnt a parent then they would have tried to find out more info, but i cant imagine a parent not looking for their child.

so anyway, i would make sure to tell the child to find the closest cm, theyre always in costume. or tell them to find the closest store. and then on your end find the closest cm and you will be reunited. i wouldnt go to the lost child center when you find them missing.

Thank you for the information. My DD will only be 2.5 when we go, so I am worried about her not remembering what to do. We did teach my DS when he went, but he was 8, so it was not a problem. I guess if she was found crying the CM's would know she was lost and surely she will be able to tell her name by then.

I hate that happened to you, but it is good to know they handled it so well. I am hoping we do not have to test the system.:)

i wasnt aware of the system they have in place, so of course i was hysterical! had i known i would have been a bit calmer.
yeah at 2 1/2 its tougher to to make then understand. she wouldnt be able to get herself to a cm. but yes, the cm's are trained to approach crying children, or even if another person found the child they would take the child to a cm. i cant imagine a person trying to look over the child for info, oyu know.
also have you thought about a small harness or leash? i know they seem so taboo, but they come in handy. that year we had our 2 1/2 yo son on one if he wasnt in his stroller. of course we didnt loose him, it was the older one, lol.

oh and even if she cant say her name(kids do the strangest thing in front of strangers) theyll ask you what shes wearing and they can connect you that way.

I just picked up a harness at the consignment sale last month. DH was not crazy about the idea, but it was a $1, so I got it just in case. Right now she loves to ride in her stroller, but who knows how she will act when we get there with so many new things to see? She is not great with holding our hands, so I know I cannot count on that when she is not riding.

I have just seen so many posts about people getting the tatoos, bracelets and tags that I thought everyone did it and the CM's would know to look for that information. I do not want her to be uncomfortable, though, by pinning something on her shirt and I do not want things written on her skin, etc.

yeah, hey any precautions as parents we can take is good, right? i dont want to discourage you from doing anything. :)

Two years ago we saw a crying child at the end of the ramp in Tomorrow Land (for the transit ride). She was crying and there was a CM standing nearby that didn't even notice her. We had to walk up to him and say "HELLLLLLOOOO, child crying for a mommy here". He was closer to her than we were, so we were surprised that he didn't take action.

My oldest 2 know my cell and know what to do in case of a 'lost' situation, my youngest 3 were adopted last year and still aren't quite sure they want to be part of our family LOL, so I do everything I know how to 'label' them. We bought the rubber bracelets, the tattoos (although we won't be doing them anymore...they didn't last very long) and we also make everyone where matching shirts.

I'm glad to hear that WDW does indeed have a system though....all we knew was from that experience and it didn't reassure us at all.

Here are my 2 thoughts on this:

1) Although I would hope that he would have at least looked in the little girl's direction, you have to realize that the CM's probably see hundreds of kids crying and screaming everyday. I can't even count the number of meltdowns I've seen where kids are screaming "Mommy!" because they want something and aren't getting it. There are parents who will just walk away from their child when they're doing this so maybe the CM thought it was just that, a meltdown and the parents had walked away rather than engage the child while they are having a meltdown.

2) As a parent or someone who has been around young children quite a bit, you tend to hear crying children more easily than someone who hasn't been in either of those situations. So if this CM didn't have kids, he might not have really noticed her crying, especially with everything else that goes on in the parks. DH has never really been around babies and small children. Until we had a baby, he hardly ever noticed a crying child.

Another good solution is Whose Shoes. It's an id tag with velcro that you can attach to your child's shoes or anywhere for that matter.
