City Classic Double for tall seven year old?

I have a very tall seven year old. He doesn't think he'll need a stroller, but I'd like to have the option if he gets tired.

He is tall and skinny. He weighs about 50 lbs and is about 50 inches tall.

We also have a two year old, who weighs about 32 lbs.

I've never seen the City Classic Double. Can anyone tell me if it might work for a tall kid?

Thanks

If he doesn't want a stroller why are you encouraging an older child to use one? I don't understand that at all. He is old enough to know . Mine never used one past 4 and even then it was spotty.

He will be fine without one he is almost as big as my 11 yr old!

OK, I know you did not ask for an opinion as to whether or not he will need one, but I honestly think that most any 7 year old can do well without a stroller. I did bring one for my boys when they were 6, but by 7 they were able to tough it out.

Yes, chances are he won't need it. I didn't ask if I should get one, I asked if it would work; if it would be big enough.

I'd appreciate any answers that address my question.

He will be able to fit in it fairly well. My dd7 rides in our City Classic stroller & she is 52" tall. She typically swings her feet to the side of the footrest to give herself more room but her feet aren't dragging at all. Before anyone flames me LOL, she rides in the stroller as she wears braces on her feet for a shortened achilles and cannot stand/walk for prolonged periods of time.

Thank you, woodkins. It shouldn't need to be said that your child has special needs. People are too quick to judge others' parenting. As the mom of a child with special needs, I get pretty hot under the collar when people say my kids should or shouldn't be able to do something at their age.

Honestly, ds7 is exactly the same size as your ds, and I can't imagine him in a stroller. We did rent a double for the 3 youngest when they were 4, 4, and 6 (WDW stroller), but dd6 was very short.

Not sure how the Classic compares to the Mini, but we used the Mini Double on our last trip, and my kids fit fine in it. DS1 was almost 7 at the time, probably similar in size to your son, and he fit very comfortably. We're planning to rent that one again this time & let the boys take turns riding. DD will likely ride most of the time. My kids can all walk just fine, but when you're going all day for several days, I think a lot of kids just get tired. I'd rather have them comfy in a stroller than crying to leave the park.

It's amazing how folks will criticize your parenting choices.

To give you an answer to your question, your child should fit just fine. This is one of my favorite stroller sites as they list the important specs of many strollers, including the "butt to canopy" height which to me is the most important one. Measure your child while he's sitting and compare those measurements to these (scroll down to see the measurements - the City Elite listed here is the same as the Classic with just a few more bells and whistles):

They also have the measurements for the City Mini which is a much easier stroller to maneuver indoors and in tight quarters and I know for a fact that my 5 year old who is 54 lbs. and just over 48" fits in the City Mini fairly well. The top of his head brushes the canopy but if he lays his head against the side he's quite comfy. We rented one a few months ago and it was great - there's a thread here somewhere with pics of my big kid in it - I'll see if I can find it.

Enjoy your trip!

ETA - there's a picture of my 5 yr old and 2 yr old in the City Mini in this thread, which might help give you an idea of how they fit.

We have the City Mini, and I think he would fit just fine. However, one thing to think about is that it will not be fun to push a stroller all day with just one child riding. It causes the stroller to pull a bit to one side. Just keep that in mind--it might be worth it to wait and rent a park stroller if he needs it.

If only our two year old is riding in it, we'll probably put our backpack in the other seat. With all the crap we tote around, it will probably weight almost as much as him ;)

Great thread. My son will be 5 & I am thinking of getting a bigger stroller. We stay at FW & like to walk to the ferry or buses & there is no way he could make it (even when he's 7, that will be a long walk).

Before I had a special needs child I thought all kids were the same too and probably would have made a comment such as yours. How lucky for you that you can't imagine a 7yo in a stroller.

I'm considering buying a larger stroller for our 6-yo and am also interested in this thread. There is a Baby Jogger City Elite on sale at albeebaby.com that I've been considering but worried about leg room compared to the high dollar BOB that I'm afraid I would be afraid to leave at the parks.

We bought our BJ from albee baby & love it. DD7 is 52" tall and fits comfortably. Can you compare the measurements of the 2 strollers or go to a shop where they have both to try out?

A local sporting goods store has a Baby Jogger in stock, so I'm going to take DS there when we have time to see how he fits in it. I wish they had a double, so I could plop both kids in it and see how it rides, but they only have the single.

I'm thinking that starting a line of strollers for older kids would be a very lucrative business :scratchin

Last time we went, when older DS was five, he still fit in the back of our Graco Duoglider - his feet went down into the storage area and not on the footrest, and he was too tall to put the sunshade up, but at least he could ride when he got tired, and he did get tired. I know he won't fit back there anymore!

I'll take some pictures of him in the baby jogger at the store if they let me, so I can share.

That would be great, hope you can snap the pix! I will have to check the sporting goods places around here. The best place to "window shop" for strollers is Disney! LOL That is how I ended up with a Baby Planet Endangered Species stroller...they just look so cool! LOL

OP, I don't know that particular stroller...have never taken a double to WDW (dd with special needs was 6 her first time there, but she walked for the couple of hours she could handle being in the park...aka mobility isn't her biggest issue). I will warn you to check WDW site, for what NOT to bring into the park. They have specific measurements, and any stroller bigger than that can be refused entry into the parks. NEver knew about that, till I saw the family in front of us at Epcot have to turn around and rent one, theirs was too big. Might have been told something about a front wheel (has to turn or swivel or something??) It might make your decision easier!

Great tip! Thanks!

We're planning on renting a double Baby Jogger from a Orlando Stroller Rentals, so I'm assuming they are allowed in the park. It wouldn't hurt to double check, though. Hadn't thought of that.
