Cirque du Soleil at Walt Disney World Resort Reaches a Milestone Friday
Thursday March 13, 3:48 pm ET
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, March 14, the critically acclaimed Cirque du Soleil production, which has been dazzling audiences since its opening on December 23, 1998, will reach a milestone. The 6 p.m. show will mark the 2,000th performance of La Nouba, presented exclusively in Downtown Disney West Side at Walt Disney World Resort. This will be an even more exciting event for three musicians and one acrobat who have participated in all 2,000 performances.
La Nouba comes from the French "faire la Nouba," which means "to party," "to live it up." More than 70 performers from around the world take artistic energy to a new height with their dynamic displays of strength and coordination. Their amazing performances are supported by opulent sets, brilliant choreography, theatrical lighting, and provocative music.
2,000 performances fun facts:
Clowns Balthazar & Sergei used over 13,200 helium-filled balloons.
The Power Track/Trampoline artists jumped more than 800,000 times,
including more than 370,000 summersaults.
The La Nouba cast went through 2,600 costume pieces: more than one piece per show.
The little train used by the show's imaginary frog traveled more than 80 miles.
The Lighting department used more than 200 gallons of fog fluid.
More than 3,200 rolls of white tape were used in the physiotherapy room, and more than 400 oz. of hot muscle rub were applied to aching bodies!
Cycle artist Doug White dropped down on his bike for a total of almost 50,000 feet.
La Nouba is performed twice nightly at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at the Cirque du Soleil theater, or by calling 407/939-7600, or a travel agent.
