Cirque de Soleil La Nouba to end?

It's expected the show will end in 2018. However it's uncertain whether a new show will come in its place or the theater will go away altogether.

I'm ok with either one.

Ticket sales have slumped. It personally holds no appeal for me. You're paying top dollar to see a show at Disney when Disney offers all kinds of entertainment in the cost of admit.

True. I've never seen it. It's not that I haven't wanted to it's just Disney time is valuable.

We've been twice. We enjoy the Cirque de Soleil shows and always try to catch one if they travel to Atlanta or if they are in a city we are visiting. I'll admit we haven't been in a few years but that is only because we try to avoid DDT/DS. It's just such a pain to get there and back to the resort, the buses take so long and since we enjoy refreshing adult beverages, we don't drive while at WDW (we do have our car there). I would hate to see it go since it's the only draw for us to even attempt to go to DS now.

We saw it in 2011. Pretty good, but its been 6 years and it hasn't crossed my mind to go again.

I think it might be a 1 and done for a lot of people.

My DMIL and DD just went last Friday. We saw with in 2010 with DD when she was 7. Great show, but to me not worth the price for a "re-watch", but DD wanted to see it again for years, so it was perfect timing. (DW and I went to the Moonlight Magic event instead.) I have no issue with it going / changing. As @rteetz said, it's never been a high priority. Still better than going bowling or to a movie while at WDW.

Pretty sure one of the host on the DIS podcast, Kevin I think, had an inside source who told him this was going to happen. That Cirque was moving fully off property. I want to say it was right before the holidays, but don't have time to go back and watch them to be sure.

Curious if they will use the space for some new large item in Disney Springs.

Plenty of opportunities for Disney to sell dining packages and make extra from each show in that scenario as well, so they certainly have incentive to actually do it.

We really enjoyed it (and I ended up on stage kissing a clown which my daughter loved). It is not something we would likely go to see again but if they were to have a different Cirque show we'd certainly go.

Not a real surprise. My son did an internship at a Cirque show in Vegas and it was the time of his life. About that time the principal founder of Cirque, Guy LaLiberite, sold a controlling interest in the company to a Chinese investment group. Since then, management has cut costs and shuttered marginally profitable shows. We love La Nouba, and have seen it twice in the last couple of years, the last time was last June. The house was only about 2/3rds full, even with nice discounts to the general public.

Cirque shows often follow a life and death cycle. Things start out tight, well cast, and has a lot of energy. Over time the show tends to "devolve" as cast members leave, acts are swapped out with new ones dropped in their place. Slowly, the energy drain starts to show.

The last time was 15 years ago...as with everything there, they never feel compelled to refresh to keep the consumer engaged - but rather attempt to milk the initial investment beyond the limits of good taste.

I expect we will see the end of the experiment after the 20 year lease is up.

With the restaurants at Disney Springs I'm surprised they don't do a dining package for dinner and a show. They could do it like the Candlelight processional in Epcot.

It sounds like I'm in the minority but I will be sad when Cirque leaves. We see the show on every visit and from time to time we watch the DVD at home. When we were there last year we had front row seats which made for an amazing evening. But as a businessman myself I can see why they would leave. The theater last year was about 2/3 full and the show is essentially unchanged over the course of its life, so playing to full (and profitable) crowds has probably run its course.

We'll still be sad though....we LOVE the live music and the atmosphere that La Nouba creates. Again, different from most posters in this thread, but La Nouba is the main reason we go to DS, as we're not drinkers or shoppers......we're just looking for entertainment and a break from our real life when we go to Orlando and Disney. So I guess we'll spend more evenings in the parks (oh dang.... lol).

This was us too, we do drink and we do shop but we can find everything we want in the parks and resorts, no need for us to put up the transportation nightmares getting back and forth. Oh well.
