Circumcision may stop millions of HIV deaths-study

Well, we're going to have to agree to disagree. I've repeated myself so many times on this thread regarding the benefits that I'm not going to post them again. However I will add that people do die from UTI's.

I'm not going to start into the pain perception topic, as I feel that will quickly dissolve into a question as to 'when does pain perception begin?'. Opening that can of worms will stir the whole 'pain during abortion' debate and I'm not going there.

We do know newborns feel pain, how much we don't know. If you didn't bleive they felt pain you would not be asking your doctor about pain managment if you have a son one day, would you? The abortion thing is not a fair comparison, nor is vaccination.

We can agree to disagree, but don't compare apples to oranges.
Again, you can post the benefits over and over again, but whether they outweigh the benefits of not doing it are still a matter of personal opinion.

And babies have died from complicatons of circumsicion too, but it is probably as rare as dying from a UTI.

I never said that infants don't feel pain.
Vaccination is a very fair comparison. Just go to a parenting message board and look up 'to vaccinate or not to vaccinate' topics. You will see a VERY similar discussion to what we are having right now.

Again, this is what is right for my family and I can now make an even more informed decision. (Thanks DIS boards!) All of my research on this thread has even strengthened my stance on what to do for my future sons.

Just because the some of same arguments are being bandied about does not mean they compare. We know that measles, mumps, polio cause death and maiming in huge numbers of people. We only know that circumsison may prevent some UTIs and may prevent some other diseases but we don't know for sure if NOT circumcizing will lead to death.

As far as you being strenghtened in you stance, who cares? Does that mean you've won the argument or you proved that is is a better choice to cut? Or are you trying to say to us noncutters "ha,ha I'm still going to do it?"

I'm not saying anything about people who make their own personal decision about their children. You're assuming.

As for this thread, unless someone has something new to offer, I'm out. It's taking a bad turn and becoming something other than a debate.

Good luck all.

Nice YAGE. :thumbsup2

And that is all I have been saying --it's a personal choice. I have not advocated my side to anyone, but I have refuted the opinion that its better to circ, because that is simply not true. I'm not saying its better not to circ, because I don't know if that is true either.

My opinon has not changed on this thread. I have said and will continue to say that there are benefits and negatives for eithr choice. Inform yourself, make the decision that you feel is best at the time and don't worry about what other people think, unless they say blatanly untrue things -than point that out.

BTW, does your husband agree with your stance about future sons?

And I hope that you would not base a future decision on a Dis thread, but would rather get the most up-to-date research when and if you have a son.

I don't know if there's any truth to the hygiene thing or not, but I dated a guy who wasn't circumcised, and I constantly had UTI's. I have not had that problem with my dh.

My experience is the opposite.

In my past relationships the boys were not circ'd and I never had a problem.

I've had two UTI's with my current 'fixed' BF, with the second one needing two courses of antibiotics to get rid of (not to mention urines testing as they thought something was up with my kidney's).

Also, UTI's are caused by a number of factors and cannot necessarily be blamed on intercourse with an un-circ'd boy.
