Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can comment on their experience with Cingular Wireless Service. I was just about to get a family plan with them when someone I work with said their service stinks.

Anyone have them?

Thanks,

We just switched from Cingular to T-mobile.

Cingular service has been spotty lately for us and cost wise it wasn't that great! We were paying $49.99 + $19.99 for the family plan. With T-Mobile we're paying $49.99 for both phones!

HTH!

Thanks Jess.

I'm going to look into them right now. I currently have a phone and service with At&t but DH has said he wants one too.

But knowing him he won't use it very often. $49.99 for both phone sounds great. Are you happy with their service?

I have had Cingular Wireless for several years and did not have a problem with service. I have had some problems but they are more about the phone than the service. My mom and I both have Cingular and I couldn't get any signal in my hotel room, yet my mom could. So then I figured it was the phone. So, I upgraded my phone yesterday. I was going to do Family Talk but it was really more than I needed. But Cingular was at least $10 cheaper per month than Verizon was. Whether I made the right, I don't know.

I get awful service.
I originally was told that my phones were outdated (at less than a year old  ) and that I needed to upgrade my phones. We agreed, but then they said the plan that we currently had didn't support the new phones, so we had to sign a new year-long contract. So now my service still stinks and I'm stuck with a longer contract.
When I spoke to Customer Service about it, they pretty much told me I'm stuck with what I have, unless I want to upgrade my equipment again.
I can't wait till my contract is up.
Does that answer your question?:p

I think it depends on where you live. Here in Indiana we have great service with Cingular. While we were in Maine last week, it was only so-so. I would ask around and see which cell phone plan in your area gets the best "reviews."

As mary said above, it is so very dependent on your specific area of the country, even specific areas of use cloesby where you live. Here in Chicago, virtually all the carriers are good, overall, and all have spotty problems. Best to ask those near where you live.

I had great service with them and was paying $20 a month. :teeth: :Pinkbounc I had to ditch them since I moved to an area they aren't in. :( If they ever get here, I'm definitely going back!

Have Sprint now. Don't like them at all. And my bill is astronomical to share minutes on a second phone. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

I hate Cingular. In the last year, my reception has gotten terrible, whether I'm at home, school, whatever. I can't make or get cell phone calls from my apartment, because there is no signal. Their customer service has been absolutely awful, both in person and on the phone.

They used to be a fantastic company, but in the last year or so, I've been counting down the time until my contract is up.

I have Cingular and am happy with them.

I have had cingular for 6 yrs, Four in Indiana (Then i moved) and two in Ohio and had great service both places..

I have had Cingular cellular service for several years. It my area, customer service stinks. I stick with them for their great family plan rates. Thankfully, I don't need customer service often.

We have Cingular and have had our share of problems but thanks to a great customer service rep. we are much happier now. The customer service reps. that I have dealt with at the Cingular store are not very knowledgable. They seem to come up with the same excuse as listed above about the equipment needing to be updated. We had only had the phones less than a few months so my response was "Why did you sell me outdated phones?" Finally, after refusing to purchase new phones, I spent over an hour on the phone (5th time) with Customer Service and the rep. said the call "would not end until the phones were fixed." She was right! It took some time but she worked very diligently bringing others into the mix until they found out what was wrong. Guess what? It wasn't the phone! It was the programming!

We have Cingular Family Plan. The service is just o.k. My DD was having some trouble with her phone it kept on going on Roam when she was in her room, outside, etc . . .very strange. Customer Service was helpful, but it still goes on Roam on occasion. There also has been times where I'll be on the phone and for no reason the call disconnects . . .I'm sure there is good and bad with every phone service . . .I don't think there are enough towers out there to handle the amount of cell phones being used.

Thanks Everyone for your replies and advise. According to my general work concensus most feel Cingular service around here is awful.

Now I am research T-Mobil? I hate this.

We had Cingular. They SUCK!! We were constantly roaming and frequently calls just didn't come through at all. Our calls were frequently dropped too. The free phone they gave me was horrible and then when it quit working the blamed it on ME!! Insisted I had to have dropped it in the toilet or something because it was so corroded inside. They refused to replace it. A year later they even admitted the phones were crap but still wouldn't replace it without a new contract. I never got anywhere calling customer service. Finally, when we moved here to VA we went with T-Mobile. I love it. Great reception, we are never roaming and it's rare that a call won't come through because of the building we are in at the time. Customer service is great and the price is right. We have a family share plan, 2 lines sharing 800 anytime, unlimited night, weekend, no roaming or long distance and unlimited mobile to mobile minutes for $70 a month. Got a nifty camera phone for free with a warranty that was $10 for the life of the contract. And only a 1 year contract as opposed to a 2 year with Cingular. I recommend T-Mobile!
